What was new about the 2024 Model 3 Performance?
Tesla announced the car on April 23, 2024, describing it as a performance trim based on the latest Model 3 platform. The changes reach beyond added power: Tesla also revised the chassis, cooling and vehicle controls, exterior aerodynamics, wheels and tires, and front seats. The details below describe Tesla’s launch claims and manual guidance, not independent test findings.

1. It introduced a new Performance 4DU drive unit
Tesla said its new Performance 4DU drive unit provides up to 22% more continuous power, up to 32% more peak power and up to 16% more peak torque than the drive unit in the previous Model 3 Performance. These are Tesla’s comparisons with the preceding generation, not independently measured results. Tesla’s April 23, 2024 announcement does not give a 2024-model 0–60 mph time or top speed.
2. Tesla claimed about 2% lower energy consumption
Tesla said the 4DU reduces energy consumption by about 2% compared with the previous-generation Model 3 Performance. That is a manufacturer-published comparison; it is not an EPA range figure or an independent efficiency test. The announcement does not establish the 2024 model’s EPA range.

3. The chassis received dedicated hardware
Tesla listed adaptive dampers with hollow piston rods, a multi-section stabilizer bar, ultra-high-strength steel springs and stiffer suspension top mounts among the Performance-specific chassis changes. These components are intended to give the car more control when driven hard while supporting different damping settings.
4. Adaptive damping offers different settings
Tesla describes three damping modes for different situations:

- Standard: comfort-oriented damping.
- Sport: firmer, more responsive damping.
- Track: damping optimized for body control on a circuit.
The 2024+ Model 3 Owner’s Manual confirms Standard and Sport settings and says Track Mode automatically optimizes adaptive damping. Exact menu labels and availability can vary with software; consult the manual for the vehicle’s current interface.
5. Track Mode V3 coordinates vehicle systems
Track Mode V3 integrates motor, suspension, powertrain cooling and vehicle-dynamics controls, according to Tesla. The owner manual says activating Track Mode changes stability control, traction control, regenerative braking and cooling behavior. It is designed to alter how the car responds during circuit driving, rather than serve as a road-driving performance setting.

6. Track Mode is for closed circuits only
Tesla’s manual states: “Track Mode is designed for use on closed circuit driving courses only.” It says not to use the mode on public roads. Driver-assistance features are unavailable while Track Mode is active, and the mode increases energy use. Tesla also says competition or excessive use of vehicle components is not covered by the vehicle warranty. Read the Track Mode manual guidance before using it.
7. It came with staggered 20-inch wheels and Tesla-specific tires
Tesla specified forged, staggered 20-inch wheels with Tesla-specific Pirelli P ZERO 4 performance tires. The company says the wider rear tire supports traction out of corners, while lower rolling resistance helps increase range. The launch announcement does not state the front and rear tire dimensions. Confirm the exact fitment for the car’s market and wheel position before buying replacements; the tire name and wheel diameter alone are not enough to establish compatibility.

8. Tesla revised the aerodynamic surfaces
The exterior changes include new front and rear fascias, a front splitter, rear diffuser and spoiler. Compared with the previous Model 3 Performance, Tesla claimed up to 5% lower drag, 36% less lift and a 55% improvement in front-to-rear lift balance. Those figures are Tesla’s manufacturer claims, not independent measurements.

Tesla said the Performance seats have added side bolstering and a deeper seating position, while retaining 12-way power adjustment, heating and ventilation. The company also pointed to the refreshed Model 3’s noise, vibration and harshness treatment and acoustic glass as part of the cabin changes.

10. Some headline specifications are not established by the launch announcement
Tesla’s April 2024 announcement does not provide the 2024 model’s EPA range, 0–60 mph time, top speed or launch price. A current Tesla product page may reflect later-model specifications, so its figures should not be carried over to this model year without a source specific to the 2024 car. The launch article also leaves exact tire dimensions unstated. Tesla’s published comparisons are useful for understanding what changed, but they do not substitute for independent performance testing.
