Ferrari combined a V12 and an electric motor with slick tyres, adjustable aerodynamics and driver-selectable hybrid modes; the result was a car engineered around extracting performance on track. Here are 10 features that explain how it worked.
1. It was built for Ferrari’s client-test programme
Ferrari developed the FXX K for the exclusive Client-Test Driver group within its XX Programme. The company says the car made its track debut at Imola on June 4 and 5, 2015, during two test days. Ferrari also says the original FXX K was developed without homologation constraints and would never be used in competition; it was a track test programme car, not a race car entered in a series. Ferrari’s FXX K history describes the programme and debut.
2. A naturally aspirated V12 worked with an electric motor
Ferrari’s 2023 XX Programme brochure lists the FXX K’s 6,262 cc, 65-degree V12 at 860 CV at 9,200 rpm and 750 Nm at 6,500 rpm. An electric motor rated at 140 kW (190 CV) supplements it, and Ferrari gives the hybrid system’s maximum power as 1,050 CV. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. Ferrari’s history account and its 2023 XX Programme brochure provide the figures.
3. The “K” refers to kinetic energy recovery
The letter K refers to KERS, or Kinetic Energy Recovery System. Ferrari describes the system as a way to recover energy and use it to boost track performance. The FXX K’s hybrid system was therefore more than an additional power source: its energy recovery and delivery were part of how the driver could manage performance during a run. Ferrari explains the name and system.

4. Ferrari reworked the V12 for the programme
The engine was not simply carried over unchanged. Ferrari lists new camshafts, mechanical valve distribution in place of hydraulic actuation, specific engine mapping, redesigned intake manifolds and a modified exhaust with the silencers removed. Together, those changes show that the FXX K’s combustion engine was adapted for its track-focused role. Ferrari’s account does not quantify the individual contribution of each change to power or lap time. Ferrari’s technical history lists the modifications.
5. Its aerodynamics were redesigned around downforce
Ferrari describes a twin-profile front spoiler and larger splitter, a raised rear tail and a mobile rear spoiler. At full deployment, the mobile spoiler extends 60 mm farther than on the road-car arrangement Ferrari references. The XX Programme brochure gives a downforce figure of 540 kg at 200 km/h. That is Ferrari’s stated figure; the brochure excerpt does not provide a test method. Ferrari’s history account details the bodywork, while the 2023 brochure lists downforce.

6. The rear fins and diffuser managed airflow
The vertical fins and small wings beside the tail had defined aerodynamic jobs. Ferrari says they guide airflow in low-drag mode and help the rear spoiler in high-downforce mode. The rear diffuser contributes to extracting air from beneath the car. In other words, the fins, wing and underbody were intended to work as a system rather than as isolated styling features. Ferrari’s account of the FXX K describes these functions.
7. Slick tyres and electronic controls were developed as a package
The FXX K used Pirelli slick tyres equipped with sensors that supplied data to its traction-control system. Ferrari says the E-Diff electronic differential, EF1-Trac traction control and Racing SSC control system were calibrated to suit those tyres. The important point is the integration: tyre information and electronic interventions were designed to work together, rather than treating the slicks as a simple fitment change. Ferrari’s technical description covers the tyres and controls.

You not only play with it using the remote control, but also place it as an exhibit on display shelf. Perfect for Christmas gifts, stocking stuffers or rewards and so on
8. Four HY-KERS modes gave the driver different priorities
Ferrari offered four selectable HY-KERS modes, each suited to a different use during track running:
- Qualify: maximum performance for a limited number of laps.
- Long Run: consistent performance over a longer run.
- Manual Boost: immediate delivery of maximum torque.
- Fast Charge: rapid battery charging.
The modes let the driver choose between a short performance push, consistency, immediate torque or replenishing the battery. Ferrari’s FXX K history describes the four settings.

9. Ferrari published lap-time figures for Fiorano and Mugello
Ferrari’s XX Programme brochure lists a Fiorano time of below 1 minute 14.5 seconds and a Mugello time of below 1 minute 49 seconds. The retrieved brochure excerpt supplies no testing conditions for a direct comparison, so these should be read as Ferrari-published figures, not as independently verified or directly comparable lap records. Ferrari’s 2023 brochure gives both numbers.
10. The FXX K Evo was a later, distinct development
Ferrari later developed the FXX K Evo aerodynamic package. In 2018, the company said the Evo generated 23% more downforce than the FXX K and highlighted a new fixed twin-profile wing, developed after more than a year of wind-tunnel work. That increase applies to the Evo relative to the original FXX K; it should not be treated as a specification of every original FXX K. Ferrari’s 2018 account of the FXX K Evo describes the update.

What the figures do—and do not—show
Ferrari’s specifications and lap-time figures explain the FXX K’s intended engineering approach, but they are manufacturer claims. The cited brochure excerpt does not give conditions for comparing its circuit times, and the available figures do not establish an apples-to-apples ranking against another track-focused hybrid. The evidence cited here also does not establish production totals, original transaction price, current resale value or road legality in any particular jurisdiction.
