1. The EP9 was a two-seat electric sports car

2. It used four motors and four gearboxes
Rather than a single motor, the EP9 had four high-performance inboard motors and four individual gearboxes, according to NIO. That hardware is central to the car’s identity and to its manufacturer-reported performance figures. NIO investor filing
3. NIO rated it at one megawatt
NIO’s 2017 performance description gives the EP9 a power rating of one megawatt, equivalent to 1,360 PS. The company also listed a 313 kph top speed and 0–200 kph acceleration in 7.1 seconds. 4. NIO said the batteries were interchangeable

5. Its first cited Nordschleife benchmark came in 2016

6. NIO announced a faster 2017 Nordschleife lap
On May 12, 2017, NIO announced a 6:45.900 Nordschleife lap for the EP9 and said it was 19.22 seconds faster than the earlier run. The number is NIO’s announced lap claim; it is not, by itself, proof that the car holds a current production-car record. NIO’s 2017 announcement
7. NIO also reported a Shanghai lap milestone
NIO reported that the EP9 completed Shanghai International Circuit in 2:01 on March 16, 2017, describing the result as a production-vehicle lap record. That category should remain attributed to NIO when the time is repeated. NIO’s Shanghai announcement

8. Its COTA milestone was autonomous
NIO’s EP9 page lists a 2:40.330 lap at Circuit of the Americas on February 23, 2017, identified as an autonomous lap record. The autonomous status matters: it is not a like-for-like comparison with a driver-led lap. NIO EP9
9. The track program continued after 2017
NIO’s retrospective lists later EP9 milestones at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2018 and Zhejiang International Circuit in 2021. The company also said that over the first six years of the program the car took part in more than 20 track events, was experienced by nearly 2,000 people, and accumulated more than 22,000 km of track mileage. 10. Lap records need a date and a category
A lap time only makes sense alongside its venue, date, vehicle class, and whether the run was driver-led or autonomous. NIO’s 6:45.900 Nordschleife announcement dates to 2017. The Nürburgring says its record drives have been officially confirmed and listed since 2019, and its current record page groups the EP9 in a prototype, one-off, and concept-vehicle context.
