Michael Schumacher tops the latest located all-time ranking, followed by Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso. The figures are estimates attributed to GQ and reported by Crash.net on August 3, 2025—not audited personal balance sheets or official Formula 1 figures. The published list also has a ranking mismatch: Niki Lauda’s estimate is higher than Kimi Räikkönen’s, despite Lauda appearing below him.

Who are the 10 richest Formula 1 drivers?

Crash.net’s August 3, 2025 article attributes these estimated fortunes to GQ. The table preserves the positions as published rather than silently correcting the fourth- and fifth-place discrepancy.

Published rank Driver Reported estimate
1 Michael Schumacher £472 million
2 Lewis Hamilton £385 million
3 Fernando Alonso £204 million
4 Kimi Räikkönen £143 million
5 Niki Lauda £157 million
6 Jenson Button £117 million
7 Sebastian Vettel £109 million
8 Mario Andretti £101 million
9 Eddie Irvine £93 million
10 Alain Prost £78 million

Each amount is a GQ-attributed estimate as reported by Crash.net on August 3, 2025, in pounds sterling. These are not verified disclosures of the drivers’ assets and liabilities. Crash.net’s published ranking puts Räikkönen fourth and Lauda fifth, but Lauda’s £157 million exceeds Räikkönen’s £143 million. If ordered strictly by those amounts, Lauda would be fourth and Räikkönen fifth; the source’s displayed positions are retained here for transparency.

Why do published F1 wealth rankings differ?

These lists are estimates, not official standings, and their figures should be read in the context of who compiled or reported them, when they appeared, the currency used, and whether the list concerns accumulated wealth or earnings over a particular year.

A separate 2024 media ranking

A 2024 PlanetF1 list gives Schumacher US$586.5 million, Hamilton US$285 million and Alonso US$260 million among its top three; it places Irvine tenth at US$117.3 million. PlanetF1 says initial figures were compiled by GQ Australia and current-driver figures came from a combination of reported figures. These dollar estimates are not interchangeable with Crash.net’s 2025 pound figures, and no conversion is applied here. PlanetF1’s 2024 ranking illustrates how reported totals and ordering can vary by source and date.

Wealth-X’s 2015 estimates

Wealth-X’s March 17, 2015 release reported a different all-time top ten, in US dollars: Schumacher $780 million; Alonso $220 million; Räikkönen $180 million; Irvine $180 million; Hamilton $110 million; Button $100 million; Alain Prost $70 million; David Coulthard $70 million; Sebastian Vettel $45 million; and Nico Rosberg $30 million. These are Wealth-X estimates from 2015, not current valuations. They should not be merged with later lists as though the sources used the same date or method. Wealth-X’s 2015 release gives an earlier point of comparison.

Net worth is not the same as annual earnings

Net worth refers to estimated accumulated wealth; annual earnings measure income over a defined period. For example, Motorsport.com’s report of Forbes’ 2025 highest-paid drivers puts Max Verstappen’s annual earnings at $76 million and Alonso’s at $26.5 million. Those are yearly earnings estimates, not net-worth valuations, so they do not establish a driver’s position in an all-time wealth ranking. Motorsport.com’s 2025 earnings report covers that separate measure.

What the ranking can—and cannot—tell you

  • In Crash.net’s August 3, 2025 GQ-attributed estimates, Schumacher leads, with Hamilton second and Alonso third.
  • The values are media-reported estimates; the cited lists do not provide audited personal balance sheets.
  • Rankings differ across publication dates and sources, and the 2025 Crash.net list’s fourth- and fifth-place order conflicts with its own amounts.
  • Annual pay figures answer a different question from accumulated estimated wealth.
