Retro styling does not have to mean dated chassis equipment. The clearest example in this group is Triumph’s 2025 Speed Twin 900, which pairs classic cues with upside-down forks, a radial front brake and lean-sensitive ABS and traction control. Other models here offer worthwhile classic-roadster, café-racer or scrambler alternatives, but the available specifications do not support a fair ranking of their real-world handling. Use this shortlist to identify what to compare—and check the current model and local-market details before you buy.
What “modern handling” means on a retro motorcycle
Handling is not a single specification. Fork design and rear-suspension adjustability affect how a bike responds to bumps and load; brakes and ABS shape stopping control; tires, weight, wheelbase and rider position also matter. Traction control can help manage drive, while cornering-sensitive systems account for lean when intervening. A feature list can show what equipment a manufacturer provides, but it cannot establish which motorcycle feels best on the road.
The models below are an editorial shortlist, not a tested ranking. Published technical details are strongest for two Triumphs; for several other entries, the available official pages confirm the model or broad equipment but not a comparable full specification set.
10 retro motorcycles to consider
1. Triumph Bonneville T120: classic roadster proportions
The T120 is the most traditional roadster in this group and a useful reference point for riders who want familiar Bonneville styling with contemporary mechanical equipment. Triumph’s U.S. product page lists a liquid-cooled 1,200 cc parallel twin producing 78.9 hp at 6,550 rpm and 105 Nm at 3,500 rpm, with a six-speed gearbox. Chassis equipment includes KYB 41 mm cartridge forks, twin preload-adjustable KYB rear units and two 310 mm front discs. Triumph lists a wet weight of 513.7 lb and a seat height of 31.1 inches. These are manufacturer specifications, not comparative test results. The U.S. page also states service intervals of 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first. 2. Triumph Speed Twin 900: the clearest documented chassis update
For the 2025 model, Triumph lists a 900 cc parallel twin rated at 65 PS and 80 Nm, plus a substantially revised chassis package: 43 mm Marzocchi upside-down forks, an aluminum swingarm, piggyback rear suspension units, a 320 mm front disc and a four-piston radial caliper. Lean-sensitive Optimised Cornering ABS and traction control are standard, according to Triumph’s announcement. The company’s Chief Product Officer, Steve Sargent, said the changes were intended to make the bike “more agile and easier to manouvre.” That is the manufacturer describing its design intent, not an independent riding assessment. 3. Triumph Scrambler 900: upright, scrambler-inspired option
Triumph places the Scrambler 900 in its Modern Classics family, making it a styling alternative for riders drawn to an upright, scrambler-inspired look. The available official material here does not provide a comparable current specification set, so suspension, brake and electronics comparisons should wait until you check the current local product page. - Two wheels don't just carry you forward. They remind you who you are. This Chopper motorcycle model captures that feeling—a tribute to the freedom that lives beyond the road.
- Electroplating painted parts reflect more than light. They reflect the soul of classic bikes. It’s the shine that belongs in every garage and every rider’s memory.
- The low frame and tall handlebars say one thing: this motorcycle has attitude. Every curve and angle was shaped for those who ride to stand apart, not blend in.
- Features a V-type engine with moving pistons. Turn the wheels and see the pistons move. In that motion, the spirit of the motorbike comes to life.
- It’s a gift that speaks without words. For those who hear engines like poetry and see chrome as a badge of belief, this is something worth holding onto.
4. Yamaha XSR900: neo-retro roadster
Yamaha’s U.S. site identifies a 2026 XSR900. It belongs on a shortlist for riders considering neo-retro roadsters, but the information available for this comparison does not establish matching figures for its suspension, brakes, electronics, weight or ergonomics. Confirm the exact model year and equipment on Yamaha’s current page for your market. Yamaha XSR900 U.S. product page.
5. Royal Enfield Continental GT 650: café-racer styling
The Continental GT 650 brings a café-racer silhouette to the comparison. Royal Enfield’s U.S. page confirms the model, but the material available here is not enough to make a like-for-like assessment of its current chassis equipment or model-year specification. Check the local product page and sit on the bike to judge whether its riding position suits your everyday use. Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 U.S. page.

8. Kawasaki Z900RS: verify current local specifications
The Z900RS is a retro-styled candidate, but a current official Kawasaki product page and specifications were not verified for this comparison. Treat it as a model to investigate rather than a confirmed technical match: check your country’s Kawasaki site for current availability, equipment and model year before putting it against the other bikes.
9. Moto Guzzi V7: check the exact model year
The V7 is another retro candidate, but current model-year features and specifications were not confirmed in the material available here. Kawasaki and Moto Guzzi details should be checked directly with the manufacturer in your region; do not assume older listings describe the bike currently on sale.

10. Honda CB1000R: a less obvious retro fit
The CB1000R surfaced as a possible candidate, but its current positioning and specifications were not confirmed here, and its fit under a strictly classic-retro brief is less clear than the other entries. Check Honda’s current local lineup and decide whether its styling matches what you mean by “retro” before comparing it with traditional roadsters or café racers.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to compare the shortlist for your riding
Once you have narrowed the styling choices, compare the actual versions sold where you live. Ask a dealer for the current specification sheet and check the exact model year: regional equipment and availability can differ, and not every manufacturer page provides the same detail.
- Suspension: Note the fork type and whether the rear suspension has adjustment. Compare the layout and adjustment range, not just the presence of named components.
- Brakes and electronics: Check the number and size of front discs, caliper arrangement, ABS fitment and whether ABS or traction control is lean-sensitive. Features vary by model and market.
- Engine and mass: Compare torque, power and wet weight using the same units and definitions where possible. Figures alone do not predict how a bike will feel at low speed or on a fast road.
- Fit and use: Seat height is only one part of ergonomics. Sit on the bike and assess reach to the bars, knee position, wrist load and the posture you will hold in traffic or on longer rides. Consider whether you want a roadster, café-racer stance or upright scrambler layout.
- Ownership: Check local price, warranty, service schedule and parts availability. For luggage, Triumph lists a heritage tank bag and soft panniers for the T120; confirm model-year and tank compatibility before buying accessories. Triumph accessories.
If handling is your deciding factor, arrange test rides on the exact models and trims you are considering. A test ride can answer questions about fit, low-speed balance, throttle response and suspension comfort that a specification page cannot; it does not substitute for a controlled comparative road test.
