The available dated cases do not support a definitive, fully verified countdown of the last ten through 2026, so this is a qualified chronology of reported examples, newest first rather than a claim to be the exact latest ten.
Recent mid-season race-seat changes
Liam Lawson — Red Bull, 2025
Red Bull dropped Lawson after the first two rounds of 2025 and promoted Yuki Tsunoda from Racing Bulls. Lawson moved into Tsunoda’s Racing Bulls seat. The Associated Press reported that Lawson had scored no points and qualified last in China; team principal Christian Horner said Red Bull had made an early switch. Those are the reported circumstances, not proof that one result alone caused the decision. Associated Press report on Lawson’s replacement.
Jack Doohan — Alpine, 2025
Alpine replaced Doohan with Franco Colapinto after the Miami Grand Prix, the sixth race of the season. An Associated Press report published in February 2026 confirms the timing. The cited reporting does not establish a definitive team-stated reason for the change; separate reporting about threats and online abuse should not be treated as an explanation for Alpine’s decision. Associated Press report on Doohan’s departure.
Nyck de Vries — AlphaTauri, 2023
AlphaTauri replaced de Vries with Daniel Ricciardo after de Vries failed to score in the first ten races. Horner described the team’s assessment this way: “I think there was a general feeling that Nyck wasn’t quite hitting the mark.” This is Horner’s explanation of the team’s view, not an independently measured verdict on de Vries’s performance. Palmer left Renault ahead of the United States Grand Prix, and Carlos Sainz moved from Toro Rosso to take his seat. Formula 1’s retrospective describes the change as part of the 2017 driver swaps. Formula 1 retrospective on driver swaps.
Daniil Kvyat — Toro Rosso, 2017
Kvyat lost his Toro Rosso seat late in 2017 after earlier driver changes that season. Formula 1’s retrospective records the change, but the available material does not settle how to count it alongside Palmer’s departure in a strict list of ten sackings. Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why “the last ten” is not a settled list
The count changes with the definition. A strict list needs a consistent rule for whether to include demotions, successive replacements, and cases such as the two separate 2017 changes. The available sources establish recent examples and point to older ones, but do not verify one complete reverse-chronological set of exactly ten through 2026. Lawson and Doohan are the latest dated cases located here, not proof that no later 2026 seat change occurred.
There is also a difference between an event and the language used for it: reports may say a driver was dropped, replaced, switched or demoted. A driver can lose a particular seat without every source describing the decision as a firing. For that reason, the examples above identify the outgoing driver, replacement and reported context where available, and leave unconfirmed motives unstated.
