Here are 10 reasons its specification stands out, based on Suzuki’s published information—not a claim of firsthand testing. Equipment and availability can differ by market and model year.
1. A distinctive 645cc V-twin
Suzuki specifies a 645cc, liquid-cooled, four-stroke, DOHC 90-degree V-twin, with an 81.0 mm bore, 62.6 mm stroke, and 11.2:1 compression ratio. The company says the engine draws on SV650 engineering and is tuned to deliver power across engine speeds. Those are manufacturer descriptions, not independent performance measurements. Suzuki’s 2025 U.S. specification is the reference for these figures.
2. Six speeds for a wider mix of roads
The constant-mesh transmission has six speeds. Suzuki describes closer ratios through fifth and a taller sixth intended for highway cruising, a setup that supports both varied road riding and longer-distance travel without establishing a particular cruising speed or comfort level. Suzuki’s model information explains the ratio design.
3. Spoke-style wheels that use tubeless tires
The XT’s spoke-style wheels pair aluminum rims with tubeless radial tires. Suzuki says the wheel design helps absorb shocks from irregular surfaces. That is a stated design benefit, not proof that the bike is suited to every off-road route or terrain. The tubeless setup is a particularly useful distinction for riders comparing the XT with the standard V-Strom 650, which Suzuki lists with cast wheels for the 2025 U.S. models. Confirm the comparison for the relevant year and market. Suzuki’s 2025 U.S. page lists the XT’s wheel construction.

4. An all-around tire size combination
Suzuki specifies Bridgestone Battlax tires in 19-inch front and 17-inch rear sizes. That combination reflects the XT’s broad-use intent, but the dimensions alone do not guarantee grip or capability on any particular surface. Tire condition, tire model, and riding conditions still matter. The 2025 U.S. specifications identify the tire brand and sizes.
5. Useful protection included on the XT
Suzuki lists hand guards and a protective lower engine cowl among the XT’s features, along with ABS. The guards add practical protection without requiring an accessory purchase; Suzuki Japan specifically describes them as helping shield hands from wind and rain, though equipment descriptions and specifications are market-specific. Check the local listing for the exact model year before assuming the same trim equipment. Suzuki’s U.S. equipment listing covers the 2025 XT.

6. Traction control that monitors several inputs
Suzuki says its Advanced Traction Control System monitors front- and rear-wheel speeds, throttle opening, engine speed, and selected gear, then adjusts engine output when it detects wheel spin. The multiple inputs explain how the system responds; they do not mean it can prevent every loss of traction or replace rider judgment. Suzuki’s system description provides the feature details.
7. Low RPM Assist for takeoffs and slow riding
Low RPM Assist adjusts engine speed during takeoff and low-speed riding. Suzuki says it is designed to smooth power delivery and help reduce the possibility of stalling. It is an aid, not a substitute for controlling the clutch and throttle. Suzuki’s feature description explains its intended function.

Suzuki lists a multifunction LCD with readouts for gear position, traction-control modes, fuel consumption, fuel level, temperatures, trip meters, odometer, and clock. That gives riders a broad range of trip and bike information in one place; the specification does not establish how easy the display is to read in every condition. 10. Touring equipment can be added to suit the trip
The frame includes integrated mounting points for optional V-Strom luggage. Suzuki lists side cases, a top case, engine guards, low- and high-profile seats, and heated grips as genuine accessories. These are not all standard XT equipment: check current availability and model-year fitment before buying. Suzuki’s accessory information describes the available categories.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What makes the XT different from the standard V-Strom 650?
For the 2025 U.S. models, the clearest distinction established by Suzuki is wheel construction: the XT has spoke-style wheels, while the standard V-Strom 650 has cast wheels. The XT’s listed hand guards and lower engine cowl also make its protective equipment part of the appeal. A spoke wheel alone does not make it an off-road specialist; the right choice depends on the actual road mix and the full model specifications, not one feature. Suzuki’s U.S. model page provides the year-specific comparison.
