It could be—for drivers who prize involvement over outright power or convenience. Its standard six-speed manual, rear-wheel drive, weight-saving details and T-specific chassis equipment make it a distinctive road-going Carrera. But “ultimate” depends on what you want from a 911: the Carrera T is not the obvious pick for automatic shifting, all-wheel drive or maximum acceleration.
Porsche’s published specifications and performance claims make a compelling case for the car. They are manufacturer figures, not independent test results.
What makes the 2025 Carrera T different?
Porsche positions the Carrera T between the Carrera and Carrera S. The “T” stands for Touring, a name Porsche traces to the 911 T homologated as a touring car in 1968; the modern Carrera T returned in 2017. The 2025 model brings that enthusiast-oriented idea to both coupe and cabriolet body styles, the latter offered for the first time on a Carrera T.
Here are ten reasons it may be the most satisfying 911 for a driver who wants to take an active role behind the wheel.

10 reasons the Carrera T could be the ultimate 911
1. The six-speed manual is standard—and the only transmission
The 2025 Carrera T is offered exclusively with a six-speed manual and rear-wheel drive. Porsche’s auto-blip rev-matching feature can be switched off, so drivers who prefer to manage their own downshifts can do so. For buyers who consider the act of shifting part of a sports car’s appeal, that focused specification is a major part of the case.
2. It pairs the standard Carrera engine with a more focused specification
The Carrera T uses the standard Carrera’s 3.0-liter twin-turbo boxer six. Porsche’s U.S. announcement lists output at 388 hp and 331 lb-ft. The T’s appeal is not a different engine or a headline power increase; it is the way Porsche combines that engine with a manual-only, rear-drive layout and additional chassis equipment.
3. It is quick by Porsche’s published figures
Porsche quotes a 0–60 mph time of 4.3 seconds for the coupe and 4.5 seconds for the cabriolet. The respective top track speeds are 183 mph and 182 mph. These are Porsche’s figures, not independent measurements, but they show that choosing the more involving specification does not mean choosing a slow 911.

4. Weight saving is built into the concept
Porsche identifies lightweight glass, reduced sound deadening and the six-speed transmission as part of the Carrera T’s weight-saving approach. Its U.S. announcement lists a 3,316-pound coupe and describes it as the lightest Carrera variant. Separately, Porsche’s international announcement gives 1,478 kg for the lightest configuration equipped with full bucket seats. These are distinct manufacturer-published figures and configurations; they should not be treated as a single directly comparable measurement.

5. Rear-axle steering comes standard
Rear-axle steering is standard on the Carrera T. Porsche says it contributes to a quicker steering ratio compared with the Carrera. It adds specialized steering hardware to a car whose appeal already centers on a more engaged driving experience.
6. Its suspension is tuned specifically for the T
The Carrera T comes with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), lowered 10 mm compared with the Carrera and tuned for the T. That gives the model a distinct chassis specification rather than simply relying on its manual gearbox to set it apart.

7. Sport Chrono and Porsche Torque Vectoring are included
Standard equipment includes the Sport Chrono package, with selectable drive modes and auto-blip, as well as Porsche Torque Vectoring with a mechanical rear differential lock. Together with rear-wheel drive and the manual transmission, these features give the driver several ways to interact with the car’s response and traction.
8. The exhaust and reduced insulation emphasize sound
A standard sport exhaust works alongside reduced sound deadening. Porsche describes the combination as creating an especially emotional driving experience. That is the manufacturer’s characterization; no sound-level measurement is established here.

The cabin and exterior get T-specific touches, including a laminated walnut shift knob, an “MT” badge and Sport-Tex plaid seat centers. Porsche also highlights model-specific exterior details. These cues give the car a character beyond its equipment list, with the shift knob placing the manual transmission visibly at the center of the experience.

10. You can choose a coupe or a cabriolet
For 2025, the Carrera T was offered as both a coupe and, for the first time, a cabriolet. The body styles have different Porsche-published performance figures and launch prices. The cabriolet adds an open-air option; the coupe is the lighter body style identified in Porsche’s U.S. specifications.

Who should choose the Carrera T?
The T makes the strongest case for a driver who wants a manual, rear-wheel-drive 911 with a lighter specification and model-specific chassis hardware. Its combination of a manual-only drivetrain, rear-axle steering, T-tuned PASM and mechanical differential lock is more compelling than any one feature in isolation.
It is less suited to buyers who prioritize an automatic transmission, all-wheel-drive traction, the strongest acceleration in the range or a softer touring setup. Porsche’s enthusiast-focused positioning does not establish that the T is objectively best for every driver, nor do the published specifications settle questions of real-world comfort or comparative performance.
Practical details before buying or replacing tires
Porsche lists 245/35 ZR20 tires at the front and 305/30 ZR21 tires at the rear. Check the vehicle’s exact wheel and tire specification before ordering replacements; the listed sizes do not identify a recommended brand or establish current retailer availability.
