The Genesis Electrified GV70 is the best answer if you want the quietest current vehicle supported by the newest testing evidence. Car and Driver measured it at 64 dBA and 18 sones at 70 mph. The lowest published result in the wider comparison is the Bentley Bentayga at 61 dBA, but that number comes from a different test generation and configuration.

Here are 10 exceptionally quiet current-production nameplates, with the test dates, trims, availability limits, and tire-and-wheel caveats that matter when you move from a published result to a real buying decision.

The quietest new vehicle in the latest Car and Driver measurement is the Genesis Electrified GV70, which recorded 64 dBA and 18 sones at 70 mph. The lowest published result in the broader March 2025 comparison was the Bentley Bentayga at 61 dBA. Those figures are not a perfectly interchangeable ranking: they come from different test generations, vehicles, tires, and configurations.

This is therefore a buying guide to exceptionally quiet current-production nameplates—not a mathematically exact ranking of every vehicle sold in the United States. The recommendations include luxury SUVs, electric crossovers, a minivan, a conventional gasoline SUV, and a pickup because cabin refinement matters across segments.

How we identified the quietest cars

Car and Driver measures cabin sound at idle, during wide-open-throttle acceleration, and while cruising at 70 mph. Its testing uses a Class 1 Brüel & Kjær sound-level meter on a consistent straightaway at its Michigan proving ground. The newer methodology also reports sones, a perceptual loudness measure intended to complement the raw decibel reading.

That consistency makes the results useful, but the numbers still are not universal specifications. Road surface, weather, tire compound, wheel diameter, vehicle load, body style, and trim can all change the sound reaching the cabin. A vehicle tested with comfort-oriented tires may be noticeably quieter than the same model on large, low-profile performance tires.

Car and Driver’s March 2025 list was limited to production vehicles. It also included refreshed vehicles when their powertrains had not materially changed, which helps make some older test results relevant to the current nameplate. Even so, each model below includes an age and configuration caveat where it matters.

The 10 quietest cars you can buy today

The list is ordered for a shopper rather than as a strict decibel ranking. The Genesis leads because it has the strongest and newest quietness evidence. The Bentley’s 61-dBA result is lower than the Genesis’s 64 dBA, but the measurements came from different methodologies and should not be treated as a direct head-to-head laboratory comparison.

1. Genesis Electrified GV70

Best for: buyers who want near-silent electric propulsion in a compact luxury SUV.

The Electrified GV70 is the best all-around recommendation when the priority is a quiet cabin without moving into ultra-luxury pricing. Under Car and Driver’s newer sound-testing methodology, it was the quietest vehicle measured at a 70-mph cruise, recording 64 dBA and 18 sones.

Genesis lists the 2026 Electrified GV70 with a 429-hp dual-motor electric drivetrain, a starting MSRP of $64,380, and an EPA-estimated range of 263 miles. Availability is unusually restricted: Genesis says the 2026 model is sold through select retailers in California, Florida, Hawaii, Ohio, Oregon, and Utah.

The quietness result and the current 2026 model are related evidence, not necessarily an instrument reading from the exact same model year, wheel package, and tire. Before buying, confirm the local vehicle’s tire and wheel specification and drive it at highway speed on more than one pavement type.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

2. Bentley Bentayga

Best for: buyers seeking the lowest published 70-mph sound reading in this evidence set and who accept an ultra-luxury price.

The Bentley Bentayga recorded 61 dBA at a steady 70 mph in Car and Driver’s controlled testing—the lowest result in that publication’s March 2025 list. Its twin-turbocharged V-8 is remarkably subdued during highway cruising, and the cabin’s insulation, materials, suspension tuning, and general sense of isolation contribute to the result.

Bentley made a styling update after 2021 while retaining the twin-turbo V-8 powertrain, so the test remains useful evidence for the current nameplate. It is not a guarantee for every trim: wheel diameter, tire construction, and options can materially affect road noise. The Bentayga is best understood as proof of what extensive luxury-car acoustic engineering can achieve, not as a value alternative to the quieter mainstream EVs below.

3. Rolls-Royce Cullinan

Best for: maximum isolation, rear-seat comfort, and traditional ultra-luxury presentation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Rolls-Royce Cullinan measured 62 dBA at 70 mph, only 1 dBA behind the Bentayga in the same controlled comparison. Car and Driver found the Cullinan’s twin-turbocharged 6.7-liter V-12 exceptionally subdued in the cabin at cruising speed.

There is an important date distinction: the published reading came from a 2019 test vehicle. It should be treated as evidence of the Cullinan nameplate’s established refinement rather than a current-model-year promise that every wheel and tire combination will produce 62 dBA. If rear-seat serenity is the main objective, the Cullinan’s large, heavily isolated cabin remains one of the strongest choices, but a current test drive is essential.

4. BMW iX

Best for: a current premium EV with quiet propulsion and practical SUV packaging.

The BMW iX recorded 63 dBA at 70 mph, tying the Audi e-tron Sportback and Rolls-Royce Spectre in Car and Driver’s comparison. It combines the low powertrain noise typical of an EV with substantial cabin insulation and a useful SUV body, making it a more practical quiet-luxury choice than a low-slung coupe.

BMW’s 2026 U.S. lineup includes the all-electric xDrive45, xDrive60, and M70 variants. Do not assume the quietness of one configuration applies identically to all three. The M70’s larger wheels and sport-oriented setup may transmit more tire and road noise than a comfort-focused version. When comparing iX vehicles, record the wheel diameter, tire model, and any acoustic-glass or comfort options rather than comparing trim names alone.

5. Rolls-Royce Spectre

Best for: buyers who want exceptionally quiet electric propulsion in a grand-touring coupe.

The electric Rolls-Royce Spectre also recorded 63 dBA at 70 mph. Its electric drivetrain keeps acceleration unusually quiet: Car and Driver reported that full-throttle acceleration increased cabin sound only modestly, from the cruising level to 65 dBA.

Optional 23-inch wheels may have prevented the Spectre from matching the gas-powered Cullinan’s result. That is a useful reminder that wheel size can work against even the best acoustic engineering. If quietness outranks visual drama, choose the most comfort-oriented wheel and tire package available and verify it with a highway drive.

6. Chevrolet Equinox EV

Best for: mainstream buyers who want an affordable electric SUV with strong highway refinement.

The Equinox EV is the strongest value-oriented entry in this group. Car and Driver measured a 2024 Equinox EV 2LT AWD at 65 dBA at 70 mph and called it the quietest compact crossover in that comparison. The result reflects the EV’s quiet propulsion, but also the vehicle’s ability to control wind, tire, and body noise at speed.

KILMAT 50 mil 50 sqft Car Sound Deadening Mat, Butyl Automotive Sound Deadener, Audio Noise Insulation and dampening
  • Very sticky self-adhesive 50 mil (1.3 mm) automotive butyl and foil sound deadening! It is user-friendly viable material suitable for DIY installation. KILMAT is really efficient and easy-to-install.
  • Now everyone can easily eliminate the annoying road noise in the vehicle. We've designed the product that pretty efficiently handles the rattle and reduces noise.
  • Automotive self-adhesive insulation consists of butyl. KILMAT sound deadening has a total weight of 0.35 lbs/1sqft (1.75 kg/1 sqm). This weight ensures optimum efficiency and sound insulation that could be possibly gained from 50 mil (1.3 mm) thickness material. KILMAT 50 mil (1.3 mm) is light weighted sound deadening material!
  • KILMAT car insulation has a special indicator as to if it is installed correctly. The special embossing on the foil must be rolled out till it is plain smooth, then you'll be 100% sure that the soundproofing is set correctly and professionally! The sound dampening material comes in handy size sheets which make it easier in terms of cutting and installation process!
  • Sound deadening material specifications: Nominal thickness 50 mil (1.3 mm); Total coverage area of 50 sq.feet (4.7 sqm); Number of sheets in the stack 47; Nominal sheet Size 9.8x15.7 inch (250x 400 mm).

Chevrolet lists the 2026 Equinox EV with a starting price of $34,995, an EPA-estimated 319-mile range in front-wheel-drive form, and 307 miles with all-wheel drive. Those specifications make it one of the most attainable ways to get a genuinely quiet highway cabin, although the exact test vehicle was a 2024 model.

Pay close attention to the wheels. The RS uses 21-inch wheels, which may increase tire roar and impact harshness compared with a smaller, more comfort-oriented package. The 65-dBA reading should guide your shortlist, not replace a test drive in the exact configuration you plan to purchase.

7. Buick Encore GX

Best for: shoppers who want a small crossover with stronger-than-average cabin isolation.

The Buick Encore GX is a useful choice for buyers who do not need a larger SUV. Car and Driver measured a 2020 Encore GX at 67 dBA and a refreshed 2024 Encore GX Avenir at 68 dBA, making it the quietest subcompact SUV in that publication’s tested segment.

The two results also show why a model should not be assigned one permanent noise score. Test vehicle, trim, tires, pavement, and methodology all matter. The Encore GX belongs on this list as a practical quiet-cabin option supported by segment testing—not as a claim that it is quieter than every newer subcompact crossover.

Because model-year availability can vary by market and inventory, confirm whether a new Encore GX is available where you live or consider a lightly used example. Inspect its tires carefully; replacing worn or aggressive tires can change the cabin experience as much as a trim comparison.

8. Mazda CX-5

Best for: buyers who prefer a conventional gasoline compact SUV but still want a refined cabin.

Car and Driver identified the Mazda CX-5 as the quietest gas-powered compact SUV in its comparison, with a 2020 test vehicle recording 66 dBA at 70 mph. It is a strong choice for someone who wants traditional gasoline ownership and polished road manners without moving to a luxury badge.

The 2026 Consumer Reports Buying Guide continues to list the CX-5 as a current model and provides tested powertrain and performance data, supporting its continued relevance as a new-car recommendation. The sound result itself is older, however, so do not treat 66 dBA as a current-model-year instrument specification.

For the quietest CX-5, prioritize the tire and wheel package designed around comfort rather than appearance. A dealer-lot test on coarse pavement is especially valuable because coarse asphalt can reveal tire roar that is hard to hear on smooth dealership roads.

9. Honda Odyssey

Best for: families who need three-row space, sliding doors, and a quieter highway environment.

Rank #4
Amazon Basics Car Sound Deadening Mat, 14.5" x 10", 10-Pack, Noise and Heat Insulation, Self-Adhesive, Vibration Dampening
  • Car sound deadener (10-piece) for creating a quieter and more comfortable in-car experience
  • Sound-proofing material (made of butyl rubber compound based substrate) helps reduce annoying vibrations and noises from the vehicle and road
  • Self-adhesive backing for secure placement; reflective aluminum foil on the front for better thermal insulation
  • Pliable material; easy to cut and install in a vehicle interior, cabin floor, or trunk; installation kit includes instructions
  • Each piece measures 14.5 by 10 inches; 10-square-foot total coverage area

The 2025 Honda Odyssey Elite measured 66 dBA at 70 mph, making it Car and Driver’s quietest tested minivan. That is a meaningful result for families: the Odyssey offers three-row utility and sliding doors without giving up the ability to hold a conversation comfortably on a long highway trip.

The 2026 Consumer Reports Buying Guide lists the Odyssey as a current model with a 3.5-liter V-6 and tested performance data. The quietness recommendation is primarily about steady-speed cruising. The V-6 remains audible under hard acceleration, particularly when the vehicle is loaded with passengers and luggage, so test the van both on the highway and on an on-ramp.

As with the other models here, tire selection and passenger load matter. A full family and a heavily packed cargo area can change the way suspension and road noise reach the cabin.

10. Ford F-150 PowerBoost

Best for: pickup buyers who need truck capability but want to reduce engine and drivetrain noise on long drives.

The Ford F-150 PowerBoost is the quietest pickup configuration in Car and Driver’s test set. A 2021 F-150 Lariat PowerBoost 4×4 measured 64 dBA at 70 mph. The hybrid powertrain can reduce the constant engine noise that many truck drivers hear during cruising, while retaining the capability expected of a full-size pickup.

Ford’s 2026 F-150 materials continue to list the 3.5-liter PowerBoost full-hybrid V-6, with up to 11,600 pounds of towing capacity. The test result applies to the PowerBoost configuration, not every F-150. Tire type, bed configuration, payload, towing hardware, and road surface can have an outsized effect on a truck’s perceived noise. An F-150 with aggressive all-terrain tires may be substantially louder than the tested Lariat on highway-oriented tires.

Why an EV is not automatically the quietest car

Electric vehicles eliminate or greatly reduce engine and exhaust noise, especially at low speeds. They do not eliminate tire roar, wind noise, suspension impacts, or aerodynamic turbulence. Heavy EV batteries can also require substantial tires, and large wheels with low-profile sidewalls may transmit more road texture.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The newer Car and Driver methodology illustrates the point. The Genesis Electrified GV70 measured 64 dBA and 18 sones, while a Honda CR-V Sport Touring hybrid measured 68 dBA and 23 sones. The hybrid’s result is still respectable, but it shows that electrification alone does not determine cabin serenity. Body sealing, glass, insulation, suspension tuning, tire compound, and aerodynamic design remain important.

How to shop for the quietest version of a car

  1. Start with the exact trim and drivetrain. A hybrid, EV, V-8, V-12, and base gasoline model can have very different sound profiles. So can two trims of the same EV.
  2. Choose the smallest suitable wheel. Large wheels usually require shorter, stiffer tire sidewalls. They may look better, but comfort-oriented wheels and tires are often the better choice for low road noise.
  3. Identify the original tire model. Tire construction and tread design are major contributors to highway roar. Ask whether the vehicle has touring, all-season, performance, or all-terrain tires.
  4. Look for acoustic equipment. Depending on the vehicle, laminated side glass, acoustic windshield glass, additional door insulation, active noise cancellation, and comfort-focused suspension tuning may vary by trim.
  5. Drive at 65–70 mph. A quiet dealership loop cannot reveal the dominant wind and tire noise heard on the highway. Use a legal speed on a representative road and listen with the audio system turned off.
  6. Use multiple pavement surfaces. Smooth asphalt can make almost any well-sealed vehicle seem quiet. Coarse pavement is more revealing of tire roar.
  7. Test acceleration separately from cruising. A car can be serene at a steady speed but noticeably louder during a full-throttle merge. If passengers or towing are part of your use case, reproduce those conditions.
  8. Do not compare isolated dBA numbers as absolute truth. Decibels are logarithmic, and a 1-dBA difference is not a simple 1-percent change in perceived loudness. Sones are intended to better represent human perception, but even they do not capture every aspect of serenity.
  9. Check local inventory before traveling. Limited availability is especially relevant to the 2026 Electrified GV70 and to unusual wheel, tire, and drivetrain combinations. Confirm the exact stock vehicle and schedule a test drive in that configuration.

What about the Audi e-tron and Q8 e-tron?

The Audi e-tron Sportback/Q8 e-tron recorded 63 dBA in Car and Driver’s testing, placing it alongside the BMW iX and Rolls-Royce Spectre in that comparison. It is not included as a straightforward current new-car recommendation because the source describes the e-tron as renamed Q8 e-tron for 2024, while current U.S. availability needs to be independently confirmed.

It remains a compelling used-car or remaining-inventory alternative for shoppers who value quiet electric propulsion. Check the vehicle’s model year, battery warranty, tire condition, wheel size, and actual local inventory rather than assuming that a vehicle advertised under either name is readily available as a new 2026 model.

How to interpret the rankings

A 65-dBA compact crossover is not subjectively identical to a 65-dBA ultra-luxury vehicle. The meter captures sound pressure at a defined test point, while occupants also perceive low-frequency vibration, seat and suspension movement, HVAC fan noise, glass quality, wind buffeting, and the way the cabin materials reflect or absorb sound. A Rolls-Royce may feel more serene because it suppresses those secondary disturbances even when two vehicles have similar cruise readings.

For that reason, use the published results to narrow the field, then evaluate the exact vehicle you will own. A quiet car on smooth proving-ground pavement may be less impressive on the broken or coarse roads near your home. Conversely, a well-chosen tire package can make a meaningful difference without changing the vehicle’s badge or powertrain.

Bottom line for different buyers

  • Best overall current evidence: Genesis Electrified GV70.
  • Lowest published measurement: Bentley Bentayga at 61 dBA in the cited controlled test.
  • Best premium electric SUV: BMW iX, with the exact trim and wheels carefully specified.
  • Best attainable electric option: Chevrolet Equinox EV.
  • Best gasoline compact SUV: Mazda CX-5.
  • Best family vehicle: Honda Odyssey.
  • Best quiet pickup configuration: Ford F-150 PowerBoost.
  • Best traditional ultra-luxury isolation: Rolls-Royce Cullinan.

The short version is simple: start with the Genesis Electrified GV70 if it is sold in your state and fits your budget, consider the Equinox EV for a more attainable electric alternative, and choose comfort-oriented wheels and tires regardless of the model. For buyers with an ultra-luxury budget, Bentley and Rolls-Royce still demonstrate the highest level of whole-cabin isolation—but the published numbers should be treated as directional evidence, not a promise for every current configuration.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the quietest car you can buy today?

The Genesis Electrified GV70 is the quietest vehicle measured under Car and Driver’s newer methodology, recording 64 dBA and 18 sones at 70 mph. The Bentley Bentayga produced the lowest published result in the broader March 2025 comparison at 61 dBA, but the two readings came from different test generations and should not be treated as a direct universal ranking.

Are electric cars always quieter than gas cars?

No. EVs remove or reduce engine and exhaust noise, but tire roar, wind, suspension noise, and aerodynamic turbulence remain. The exact tires, wheel size, glass, insulation, and body design determine how quiet an EV feels at highway speed.

Which wheel and tire choice makes a car quieter?

Usually, a smaller wheel with a taller, comfort-oriented touring tire is the better choice for low road noise. Large wheels and low-profile or aggressive tires can create more tire roar, even on a heavily insulated luxury vehicle.

What do dBA and sones mean in a quiet-car test?

A dBA reading is an instrument measurement of sound pressure adjusted for human hearing. Decibels are logarithmic, so small numerical differences should not be interpreted as simple percentage changes in perceived loudness. Sones are included in newer testing to provide a more perception-oriented measure.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I buy the Genesis Electrified GV70 everywhere in the United States?

Yes, but confirm availability first. The 2026 Genesis Electrified GV70 is listed by Genesis as available through select retailers in California, Florida, Hawaii, Ohio, Oregon, and Utah. Other vehicles on this list have older test results or varying inventory, so inspect the exact vehicle and test it at highway speed.

The Bottom Line

Quietest by the newest evidence: Genesis Electrified GV70. Lowest published 70-mph reading: Bentley Bentayga at 61 dBA. For most buyers, the Chevrolet Equinox EV, Mazda CX-5, Honda Odyssey, and Ford F-150 PowerBoost offer the most useful combination of quietness, practicality, and availability. Whichever model you choose, the exact tire and wheel package matters almost as much as the nameplate.
