If you want a more luxurious alternative to the Tesla Model S, start with the Lucid Air for a direct range-and-luxury rival, the BMW i7 or Mercedes-Benz EQS for flagship comfort, and the Porsche Taycan or Audi e-tron GT for a sportier drive. The other choices below include smaller executive cars, a UK-market option, and one bespoke ultra-luxury outlier—not ten exact Model S equivalents.
This is a U.S.-leaning 2026 snapshot. Prices, certified range, trims, and availability can change; check the exact model year and configuration offered in your area.
Which Model S alternative should you consider first?
Choose by what you want to improve over the Model S rather than by looking for one universal winner. Lucid positions the Air against the Model S and other premium electric sedans; the i7 and EQS are aimed at flagship comfort; and Porsche’s Taycan and Audi’s e-tron GT put more emphasis on driving character. The A6 e-tron, i5, and i4 are smaller or differently shaped executive alternatives.
- Closest direct range-and-luxury counterpoint: Lucid Air.
- Rear-seat and full-size comfort: BMW i7 or Mercedes-Benz EQS.
- Sportier grand touring: Porsche Taycan or Audi e-tron GT.
- Executive-car alternative: Audi A6 e-tron or BMW i5.
- Smaller premium choice: BMW i4.
- Luxury stretch beyond ordinary substitutes: Cadillac CELESTIQ.
Before comparing numbers, match the exact trim and model year. EPA estimates, preliminary manufacturer figures, and WLTP figures use different test cycles and should not be treated as directly interchangeable.

How the 10 alternatives compare
| Alternative | Best suited to | Useful published figure | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lucid Air | Direct luxury and range comparison | Lucid lists $70,900–$249,000 across trims | The price span covers different configurations; specifications vary by trim, configuration, and model year. Lucid says its comparison information is current as of March 2026. |
| Porsche Taycan | Sport-sedan driving focus | 2026 starting price $108,050; 251–293 miles EPA-estimated | Car and Driver lists a range across models and trims, not one configuration. |
| BMW i7 | Full-size cabin and rear-seat luxury | Up to 350 miles estimated | BMW calls the figure preliminary; some current model-year ranges may not yet be fully EPA certified. Verify the exact trim. |
| Mercedes-Benz EQS | Digital flagship cabin and comfort | Updated 2027 U.S. EQS expected in the second half of 2026 | Mercedes-Benz USA has announced 800-volt architecture, a larger battery, and optional steer-by-wire for the updated model. Timing is an expectation, not confirmation of local inventory. |
| Audi e-tron GT | Sporty grand touring | No figure stated here | Car and Driver characterizes the 2026 car as quick and nimble; it is not established here as roomier or more comfortable than a large luxury sedan. |
| Audi A6 e-tron / S6 Sportback e-tron | Executive-car alternative | No figure stated here | Confirm year and version; naming and availability vary. |
| BMW i5 | Smaller, conventional executive choice | No figure stated here | A more compact, less flagship-oriented alternative to the i7. |
| BMW i4 | Smaller premium option | No figure stated here | Car and Driver includes the i4 Gran Coupe in its 2026 ranking; it is not a full-size Model S peer. |
| Genesis Electrified G80 | Comfort-focused option where available | Up to 354 miles WLTP combined | This is a UK-market figure and not a U.S. EPA estimate. Confirm local availability. |
| Cadillac CELESTIQ | Bespoke ultra-luxury stretch choice | iSeeCars lists a $356,995 MSRP and 303-mile range | A much more expensive bespoke vehicle, not a typical value substitute; check current manufacturer pricing. |
1. Lucid Air: the closest direct luxury counterpoint
The Lucid Air is the most natural first comparison if you want to stay in the premium electric-sedan category while prioritizing range and luxury. Lucid itself compares the Air with the Model S, BMW i5 and i7, Porsche Taycan, and Audi A6 e-tron. Its published $70,900–$249,000 span covers multiple trims, so do not read the endpoints as prices for one configuration or pair a base price with another trim’s performance or range figures. Lucid’s comparison page says its information is current as of March 2026 and cautions that specifications depend on trim, configuration, and model year.
For a fair shopping comparison, line up the Air and Model S versions you would actually buy, then compare local pricing, certified range, cabin layout, and availability. The Air is a direct rival in positioning, but the evidence here does not establish a single trim-to-trim winner.
2. Porsche Taycan: for a sport-sedan driving focus
Choose the Taycan if driving character matters more than being the range or value leader. Car and Driver describes the 2026 model’s driving experience as one of the segment’s best. It lists a starting price of $108,050 and 251–293 miles of EPA-estimated range across the range of models and trims; those figures should not be combined as though they describe one car. See Car and Driver’s 2026 Taycan coverage for the model context.

- Will not fit for Right Hand Drive Vehicle. Custom-made Center Console Cubby Drawer Compatible with Tesla Model S / Model X 2012-2019 2020 2021. (NOT FOR Model S Model X Long Range or Plaid 2022 2023 2024.) Will not fit for Right Hand Drive Vehicle.
- Provides additional storage space to manage your wallet, sunglasses, pens, business cards or phones in factory roomy, deep console cubby storage. Leaving room for storage space isn’t particularly well designed by Tesla.
- Model S/ Model X Console Cubby Drawer is made of solid ABS material, and the edge is thickened, which is not easy to break. The glossy finish of the drawer surface perfectly matches Tesla interiors. High quality silicone mats prevents things from rolling around or rattling and is easy to clean.
- Convex Point Design enables to prevent items from flying out when you accelerate or break. NOT FIT RIGHT HAND DRIVE VEHICLES.
- Package included 1 Console Cubby Drawer, 2 anti-slip mats.
The Taycan suits a shopper drawn to a more focused sport-sedan experience. It is not the automatic choice if your main goal is maximizing range for the money.

The i7 is the most obvious BMW choice if the priority is a flagship cabin and a more substantial rear-seat experience than a smaller executive car can offer. BMW highlights spacious second-row seating, adaptive two-axle air suspension, and rear-axle steering on its i7 overview.
BMW quotes up to 350 miles of estimated range, but says some current model-year figures may not yet be fully EPA certified. Treat that as a preliminary manufacturer estimate until the exact trim’s certification is available, rather than as a guaranteed figure for every i7.

- Deep Silicone Padding: Reduce noise while increasing stability and protection for items in storage.
- Premium Build: Made from a sturdy and rigid PC container for durability with a subtle carbon fiber accent.
- Organization made simple: built-in organization for neat storage.
- Low Maintenance: Clean with ease by rinsing the container with water.
- Easy to Install: Precise fit within the armrest for quick and easy installation.
4. Mercedes-Benz EQS: a digital flagship, with a U.S. model-year transition
The EQS is worth considering if your definition of luxury centers on a high-tech flagship cabin and comfort. Mercedes-Benz describes the Hyperscreen on its UK page as three displays beneath one glass surface; that page’s features and specifications are market-specific and should not be assumed to apply identically to U.S. cars. Mercedes-Benz UK’s EQS overview provides that description.
For U.S. shoppers, Mercedes-Benz USA says the updated 2027 EQS is expected at dealerships in the second half of 2026, with 800-volt architecture, a larger battery, and optional steer-by-wire. The timing is an announced expectation, so check whether the relevant model year and equipment are actually available locally. Mercedes-Benz USA has called the EQS “a technology pioneer since its introduction”; that is the company’s characterization, not an independent comparative finding. See the U.S. announcement.

The 2026 Audi e-tron GT is a compelling alternative for someone who wants a quick, nimble electric grand tourer. Car and Driver describes its performance as Porsche-like. That makes it a driving-focused option, not a substantiated upgrade in rear-seat room or large-sedan comfort. See Car and Driver’s e-tron GT coverage for its model-year context.

6. Audi A6 e-tron and S6 Sportback e-tron: executive-car alternatives
The A6 e-tron family broadens the choice for shoppers who want an executive electric car rather than a full-size flagship. Car and Driver identifies the A6 e-tron as aimed at Lucid Air and Model S shoppers. The Sportback body style is a reminder that these cars do not share every sedan packaging or cargo-access characteristic with the Model S. Confirm the precise year, version, and local availability before comparing specifications; naming and availability vary. The Car and Driver A6 e-tron page covers the model family.
7. BMW i5: a more compact executive choice
The i5 makes sense if you want a premium BMW electric car but do not need the i7’s flagship scale or rear-seat amenities. It appears in Lucid’s comparison set and Car and Driver’s ranking, but it is best treated as the smaller, more conventional executive choice in this shortlist. Compare the exact body style and trim available to you rather than assuming it matches the Model S in size or equipment.

The i4 Gran Coupe is a useful option if a smaller premium electric car will do. Car and Driver includes it in its 2026 ranking, but it is not a full-size Model S substitute in every dimension. Its smaller category may suit drivers who do not need the larger-car footprint; check current trims and pricing in your market before deciding.

9. Genesis Electrified G80: comfort-focused, with a market caveat
Genesis UK highlights the Electrified G80’s extended wheelbase, extra rear-passenger room, Nappa leather, soundproof glass, heated armrests, and 27-inch display. Those features make it relevant if comfort and passenger experience matter more than a sportier character. The UK model page quotes up to 354 miles WLTP combined. WLTP is not the U.S. EPA test cycle, and the UK page does not establish current U.S. availability; confirm whether it is offered as a new car in your market.
10. Cadillac CELESTIQ: a bespoke luxury stretch choice
The CELESTIQ belongs on the list only as an ultra-luxury ceiling, not as a normal-price alternative to the Model S. iSeeCars’ 2026 comfort ranking lists a $356,995 MSRP, a 303-mile range, and heated, ventilated, and massaging seats. The listed price places it in a markedly different spending category from mainstream premium electric sedans, and current pricing should be confirmed with Cadillac. See iSeeCars’ 2026 comfort ranking for the cited figures.
What to compare before choosing
Build a shortlist around the configuration you can actually buy, rather than comparing brand names or headline figures alone.
- Match trim and local price. Compare the configured versions and model years offered in your area. A multi-trim price span does not tell you what a specific version costs.
- Use the same range basis. Put EPA estimates beside EPA estimates. Label preliminary manufacturer estimates and WLTP results separately, and verify whether a current figure is certified for the exact trim.
- Check the charging and performance details for that version. The figures can differ by trim; do not assume one model-family specification applies to every car.
- Try both rows. Sit in the rear seat if passenger comfort matters, and assess entry, legroom, and the equipment fitted to the car you would buy.
- Consider body style and cargo access. The shortlist includes sedans, Sportbacks or liftbacks, and a Gran Coupe; their cargo openings and passenger packaging are not identical.
- Confirm delivery timing and availability. This is especially important for a model-year transition or a car described on a non-U.S. market page.
