These 10 models stand out for different reasons, but none is a measured, universal winner. This is a curated shortlist, not a head-to-head interior test: Road & Track’s 2025 interior-focused selection and Car and Driver’s 2026 full-size SUV rankings use different scopes, years, and evaluation methods.
How to choose a luxury SUV interior
Start with who will use the cabin most. A two-row SUV with a carefully finished front cockpit suits a different buyer from a three-row family hauler or a vehicle designed around rear-seat passengers. Then consider the details you will interact with every day: seat shape and adjustment, materials, physical controls versus screens, and how easily passengers reach the second and third rows.
- For craftsmanship and distinctive materials: consider the Bentley Bentayga or Range Rover.
- For rear-seat comfort: look closely at the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 and the four-seat Lexus LX Ultra Luxury grade.
- For a screen-forward, contemporary cabin: the BMW iX takes a more minimalist approach, though its sparse buttons may not suit everyone.
- For three-row space and family use: the BMW X7, Cadillac Escalade, Lincoln Navigator, Volvo XC90, and standard Mercedes-Benz GLS are worth comparing in their exact configurations.
Trim and model year matter. Equipment described for one grade—or in a release about an earlier update—does not establish what is standard on every current vehicle.
10 luxury SUVs with stand-out interiors
1. Land Rover Range Rover: restrained design and polished materials
The Range Rover’s cabin is a strong choice if you want luxury expressed through a calm, minimalist design rather than visual clutter. Road & Track’s 2025 interior selection praises its materials and improved infotainment usability. Car and Driver also ranks the Range Rover highly overall for 2026, but that rating is for the vehicle as a whole, not an interior-only score.

Best fit: buyers seeking a quiet-looking, material-focused cabin. Check the specific trim for its upholstery and equipment before comparing vehicles.
2. Bentley Bentayga: tactile craftsmanship
The Bentayga’s appeal is in the way its cabin details feel and look. Road & Track highlights metal knobs and switches alongside real wood, a combination that gives the interior a more traditional, hands-on character than a screen-dominated cockpit. That is the publication’s assessment of the cabin, not a standardized test of material quality.
Best fit: drivers who value visible craftsmanship and physical details over a purely minimalist aesthetic.
3. Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600: a back seat designed to be the destination
The Maybach GLS 600 prioritizes rear passengers. Road & Track describes a roomier, more adjustable rear seating arrangement, with the rear row moved back. The tradeoff is decisive for some buyers: the model deletes the third row, so it is not the choice for carrying more than two rows of passengers.

Best fit: owners who expect to be driven or want a particularly accommodating rear seat, rather than maximum passenger capacity.
4. Mercedes-Benz G-Class: an upright cabin with a contemporary finish
The G-Class pairs its distinctive, upright shape with a more modern cabin treatment: Road & Track points to quilted leather and large screens alongside the vehicle’s historically utilitarian character. Its appeal is partly the contrast between rugged form and upscale presentation; that does not, by itself, establish that its interface will feel most intuitive to every driver.
Best fit: buyers drawn to a bold, upright design who want an upscale cabin rather than a conventional luxury-SUV look.
5. Lexus LX: choose the seat layout that matches your priorities
The LX offers different cabin priorities by grade. The four-seat Ultra Luxury configuration places emphasis on rear passengers, with reclining, heated, and cooled rear seats described in Road & Track’s selection. Lexus’s 2025 release for the 2026 LX says front seats have five massage options when equipped with semi-aniline leather. These are configuration-dependent features, not equipment to assume on every LX.

Best fit: buyers who want to tailor the cabin around front-seat comfort or a more rear-seat-focused four-seat layout. Confirm the grade and upholstery required for the features you want.
6. BMW iX: distinctive materials, few physical buttons
The BMW iX sets itself apart with a modern, pared-back cabin. Road & Track calls attention to details including walnut and crystal, while noting that the near-absence of buttons can make controls more complicated. The same screen-led simplicity that appeals to one driver may frustrate someone who prefers dedicated physical controls.
Best fit: shoppers who like a contemporary, uncluttered interior and are comfortable operating more functions through screens.
7. Volvo XC90: Scandinavian minimalism
The XC90’s cabin is defined by a Swedish minimalist aesthetic and material choices that Road & Track singles out in its 2025 selection. The publication also notes a wool upholstery option. Because upholstery availability can change with model year and configuration, verify that option with Volvo for the vehicle you are considering rather than assuming it is currently orderable.

Best fit: buyers drawn to understated design and a less overtly ornate kind of luxury.
8. BMW X7: a technology-rich cockpit in a three-row SUV
The X7 combines a high-tech front cockpit with three-row seating. BMW’s April 2022 U.S. release describing the 2023 update lists a 12.3-inch information display and a 14.9-inch control display. Those measurements document that update; they do not establish current-year standard equipment. For the 2026 model, Car and Driver gives the X7 a 9.5/10 overall rating and notes that third-row and cargo room are relative limitations among its full-size luxury SUV comparisons.
Best fit: shoppers seeking a premium, tech-forward three-row cabin who should still check whether the X7’s third row and cargo area meet their needs.
9. Cadillac Escalade: a lavish cabin for family or executive transport
The 2026 Escalade is described by Car and Driver as lavish and technology-rich, with appeal for both family use and executive transport. It offers a large-cabin alternative to the more restrained interiors on this list. Car and Driver’s 2026 ranking provides full-vehicle context, not a direct interior-only verdict against all nine other SUVs here.

10. Lincoln Navigator: a full-size luxury contender
Car and Driver describes the 2026 Navigator as having a luxe cabin while raising the question of how it stacks up against newer full-size rivals. That makes it a worthwhile vehicle to include in a comparison, not a proven cabin winner. Compare the features, materials, and seating arrangement on the specific model year and trim alongside the Escalade and other large SUVs.
Best fit: shoppers considering a full-size SUV who want to evaluate Lincoln’s cabin against current competitors in person.

For a rear-seat-first experience, the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 and four-seat Lexus LX Ultra Luxury are the clearest matches in this group, but they approach the need differently. The Maybach gives up the third row to focus on rear-passenger space and adjustability; the LX Ultra Luxury emphasizes a four-seat arrangement with rear-seat comfort features. If you need a conventional three-row vehicle, compare the standard Mercedes-Benz GLS, X7, Escalade, Navigator, and XC90 in their actual seating configurations rather than treating a luxury badge as a guarantee of equal comfort in every row.

Mercedes-Benz’s March 31, 2026 release says the updated GLS has three power-adjustable rows as standard and offers seating for six or seven. The manufacturer calls it “a remarkable sense of space and comfort”; that is Mercedes-Benz’s description, not an independent comparative seat test. Its release also describes a standard MBUX Superscreen and available rear-seat packages. Confirm the U.S. model year and trim on sale before relying on those details.
What the rankings do—and do not—tell you
Car and Driver’s 2026 overall scores help place several large luxury SUVs in market context, but they do not measure interior quality alone. The figures below are the publication’s overall vehicle ratings, not a common cabin score for this list.
| Model | Car and Driver 2026 overall rating |
|---|---|
| BMW X7 | 9.5/10 |
| Range Rover | 9/10 |
| Cadillac Escalade | 9/10 |
| Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class | 8.5/10 |
| Lincoln Navigator | 8/10 |
| Lexus LX | 8/10 |
The ratings and model context come from Car and Driver’s 2026 full-size luxury SUV rankings. They should not be used to infer that one cabin is objectively superior to another: no shared interior-only scoring method for all 10 vehicles is established by these sources.
Quick Recap
How to compare the cabins before you buy
- Confirm the model year and trim. Check the manufacturer’s current local specifications; equipment, upholstery, seating layouts, and available packages can differ by configuration.
- Sit in every row you expect to use. Try the front seats, second row, and—if fitted—the third row. Have regular passengers check entry, exit, and space in the seats they will occupy.
- Test the controls, not just the screens. Adjust climate, audio, navigation, and seat settings. Decide whether the layout works for you if key functions are screen-operated.
- Check the specific materials and comfort features. Confirm the upholstery, seat adjustments, heating, cooling, massage, and rear-seat controls on the vehicle’s window sticker or order specification rather than relying on a feature listed for another grade.
- Try the cabin with your real luggage and passenger needs in mind. A third row can add flexibility, but compare usable passenger and cargo space in the configuration you will actually drive.
