Which luxury SUVs depreciated the most after three years?
iSeeCars ranked these models by average depreciation in its comparison of 2017-model-year new sales with 2020 used sales. The reported used prices and savings are historical averages from that study, not current market quotes.

What the ranking says—and what it does not
The QX60 led the list at 51.0%; the other nine models ranged from 48.0% to 50.4%. For context, iSeeCars reported 39.7% average three-year depreciation across all SUVs in the study. That is a comparison with the study’s broader SUV group, not a current benchmark.

The values describe average prices across sales samples, not the result for every owner or vehicle. A specific SUV’s resale value can differ with mileage, condition, trim, location, incentives, and market conditions at the time of sale. The study does not establish a separate cause for each model’s position.
How iSeeCars measured three-year depreciation
iSeeCars analyzed more than 5.7 million new vehicles from model year 2017 sold from January through June 2017 and more than 1.2 million used examples of that model year sold from January through June 2020. It adjusted new-car prices to 2020 dollars using U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data, then calculated the average price difference as a percentage of adjusted new price, with statistical adjustment for sales volume and new-car pricing.

The study excluded heavy-duty vehicles, vehicles discontinued before model year 2020, and low-volume vehicles, subject to stated exceptions for separate sports-car and alternative-fuel analyses. Because it compared market sales samples from two periods rather than following individual cars, its percentages should be read as market averages.
Is this still the current list?
No. The figures above describe the 2017-to-2020 sales comparison. iSeeCars’ current luxury-SUV resale page reports five-year value retention for 2026, a different measure and ownership period, so it cannot be substituted for a current three-year depreciation ranking: iSeeCars’ 2026 luxury-SUV resale rankings.

What to check when buying a three-year-old luxury SUV
A large historical depreciation figure can make a used model look less expensive relative to its new price, but it does not establish that a particular example is a good buy. Before purchasing, obtain a vehicle-history report—Carfax and AutoCheck are examples—and arrange an inspection by an independent mechanic. Neither step guarantees a trouble-free vehicle; together they can help surface history or condition issues that a price comparison will not show.
