If you’re shopping for a hybrid before the end of 2026, start with what you need the vehicle to do: carry a family, handle winter roads, minimize fuel use, or plug in for short electric trips. The list below covers ten U.S.-market 2026 choices, but they are not all new launches. The Forester Hybrid and Palisade Hybrid are new hybrid offerings for 2026; Toyota’s RAV4 is redesigned and offered as a hybrid or plug-in hybrid; the Sportage Hybrid gets updates. Other nameplates are continuing choices in their 2026 lineups.

Prices, ratings, and availability can vary by trim and location. Treat manufacturer estimates and editorial previews as such, and confirm current specifications and inventory with the automaker or local dealer before making a purchase.

Which 2026 hybrid best fits your needs?

Shop for Start with Why it stands out
Standard all-wheel drive in a compact SUV Subaru Forester Hybrid Subaru lists Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive as standard and gives a starting MSRP of $34,730.
Three rows and towing capability Hyundai Palisade Hybrid Hyundai estimates up to 4,000 pounds of towing and up to 619 miles of range for this three-row hybrid.
A plug-in hybrid SUV Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid It is the plug-in choice in Toyota’s redesigned 2026 RAV4 range. Consider whether you can charge regularly; its plug-in format is different from a conventional hybrid.
Strong reported fuel economy in a sedan Toyota Camry Hybrid AP’s report of Edmunds’ selections gives a trim-dependent EPA-estimated 43–51 mpg.
A smaller, efficiency-oriented car Toyota Prius or Honda Civic Hybrid The Prius is in Toyota’s 2026 lineup; AP reports up to 49 mpg for the Civic Hybrid.

For a like-for-like decision, compare the exact trim, EPA city/highway rating, drivetrain, passenger and cargo space, and transaction price. The figures below are not a uniform independent test: some are manufacturer estimates, and some come from AP’s reporting of Edmunds’ recommendations.

Ten hybrids to consider before year-end

1. 2026 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid

Toyota says the redesigned 2026 RAV4 will be available as a conventional hybrid (HEV) or plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and that its fifth-generation hybrid system debuts on an SUV in this model. That makes it a key SUV to cross-shop if you want a hybrid RAV4 but do not need to plug in. Toyota’s lineup page confirms the 2026 model, but final U.S. fuel-economy and pricing details are not established here. An earlier AP preview reported anticipatory figures, not final specifications, so do not rely on those figures as confirmed ratings.

2. 2026 Subaru Forester Hybrid

The Forester Hybrid is the clearest choice on this list for shoppers who prioritize standard AWD. Subaru lists four trims: Premium Hybrid at $34,730 MSRP, Sport Hybrid at $37,930, Limited Hybrid at $38,995, and Touring Hybrid at $41,545. These are Subaru of America’s 2026 MSRPs; check the current manufacturer listing for destination charges or updates.

Subaru rates the system at 194 total horsepower and reports an EPA-rated combined range of 581 miles. The company also claims up to 40% better fuel economy than the non-hybrid Forester; that is a manufacturer comparison, not a promise of an individual driver’s results. Subaru describes a series-parallel system combining a 2.5-liter Boxer engine, electric motors, and a Lineartronic CVT.

3. 2026 Hyundai Palisade Hybrid

The 2026 Palisade adds the first hybrid powertrain in the nameplate’s lineup, giving larger families a three-row option to investigate. Hyundai estimates up to 329 combined system horsepower, up to 339 lb-ft of torque, more than 30 mpg on the highway, and an internally targeted range of up to 619 miles. It also estimates a maximum towing capacity of 4,000 pounds. These are manufacturer estimates or targets, not figures presented here as EPA-certified results. Check the configuration and towing requirements for the exact vehicle you intend to buy.

4. 2026 Kia Sportage Hybrid

The updated Sportage Hybrid is a compact SUV candidate if you want a hybrid with an available AWD configuration. AP’s report on Edmunds’ picks lists a $31,735 starting price and EPA-estimated fuel economy of 42 mpg combined, or 35 mpg combined with AWD. The report also notes design and technology changes and new S and X-Line trims. Confirm current pricing, trim availability, and ratings with Kia before comparing offers.

5. 2026 Toyota Camry Hybrid

The Camry remains a sedan option in Toyota’s 2026 lineup rather than a wholly new hybrid launch. AP’s report of Edmunds’ selections gives an EPA-estimated 43–51 mpg, depending on trim, and a starting price of $30,195; it also reports available AWD. Confirm the current trim-level rating and price, since the range is not a single figure shared by every Camry Hybrid.

6. 2026 Toyota Prius

Toyota lists the Prius in its 2026 lineup, making it an efficiency-oriented hatchback alternative to the SUVs on this list. The available source information does not establish current trim-by-trim EPA ratings or pricing, so compare those details on Toyota’s current model page before deciding whether a particular Prius is the right fit.

7. 2026 Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid

The Prius Plug-in Hybrid is also listed for 2026. Unlike a conventional hybrid, a PHEV is designed to be plugged in; the usefulness of that distinction depends on your access to charging and driving routine. Current trim-level price, electric range, and EPA ratings are not established here. Check Toyota’s current specifications and consider the vehicle separately from non-plug-in hybrids.

8. 2026 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid

Toyota lists the Corolla Cross Hybrid for 2026. It is the smaller crossover to investigate if a larger SUV like the RAV4 or Forester is more vehicle than you need. Confirm current U.S. trim availability, drivetrain, pricing, and EPA ratings on the model page; those details are not established in the available source information.

9. 2026 Toyota Highlander Hybrid

The Highlander Hybrid appears in Toyota’s 2026 lineup and is the three-row Toyota choice among these candidates. Toyota’s search listing reported a $47,020 MSRP for the 2026 Hybrid XLE, excluding dealer processing and handling, but that price should be verified against Toyota’s current model page. Check the exact seating configuration, trim, and availability before comparing it with the Palisade.

10. 2026 Honda Civic Hybrid

The Civic Hybrid is a compact-car alternative for shoppers who do not need SUV space. AP’s report of Edmunds’ recommendations cites up to 49 mpg, but does not give a distinct hybrid starting price. Check Honda’s current specifications for the exact trim and rating, and compare cabin and cargo needs against the hatchback and crossover options above.

How to narrow the shortlist

Choose the body style before chasing a rating

A sedan such as the Camry or Civic Hybrid may suit a commute without SUV cargo needs. The Prius and Prius Plug-in Hybrid offer hatchback formats. For crossovers, the Corolla Cross Hybrid is the smaller option to investigate, while the RAV4, Forester, and Sportage occupy the compact-SUV conversation. For three rows, compare the Palisade and Highlander Hybrid directly.

Separate conventional hybrids from plug-ins

A conventional hybrid does not require plugging in. The Prius Plug-in Hybrid and RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid are PHEVs, so home or workplace charging access can affect how useful their electric operation is to you. Do not treat a PHEV’s claims or specifications as directly interchangeable with a conventional hybrid’s fuel-economy rating.

Match AWD and towing to the job

Subaru identifies AWD as standard on the Forester Hybrid. AP reports available AWD for the Camry Hybrid and a distinct combined rating for the Sportage Hybrid with AWD. The Palisade’s estimated 4,000-pound maximum tow rating may matter to trailer users, but confirm the rating for the specific configuration and ensure it meets your intended use. A drivetrain or maximum tow figure should not be assumed to apply to every trim.

Verify the specific vehicle and the total price

Before signing, compare the model year, trim, drivetrain, included equipment, current EPA label, destination charge, incentives, and dealer quote. The figures in this roundup do not establish local inventory, delivery timing, dealer markups, incentives, or final transaction prices. Toyota notes that more 2026 information will be added to its lineup page, so its listed models should not be taken as confirmation that every trim is immediately available everywhere.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
