There is no comparable set of verified top-speed tests that establishes the ten fastest Kawasaki motorcycles in a definitive order. The list below is a curated set of ten notable speed-focused Kawasaki models and generations, not a measured top-ten ranking. Only three entries have specific top-speed results in the cited evidence; for the rest, the available sources establish the model’s speed credentials or power, not a verified maximum speed.
How to read this list
A measured top speed is not the same as an engine-power rating or a quarter-mile result. The figures below retain the test year and context reported by the source. Kawasaki’s 2026 UK H2R specification, for example, gives power and identifies the bike as closed-course only; it does not publish a measured maximum speed.
Because the evidence spans different decades, test conditions and speed-restriction circumstances, the entries are grouped as notable candidates rather than ranked from fastest to slowest. The ten models and generations are a curated selection, not ten independently verified speed records.
Ten notable Kawasaki speed leaders
1. Ninja H2R
The H2R is Kawasaki’s closed-course supercharged hypersport, not a road-legal counterpart to the Ninja H2. Kawasaki Motors UK’s 2026 specification lists a 998 cc supercharged inline-four rated at 228 kW (310 PS), or 240 kW (326 PS) with ram air. Those are power ratings, not a measured top speed. Kawasaki’s official model description calls it a “closed-course model,” developed without road-traffic and racing constraints.

2. Ninja H2
The road-going Ninja H2 shares the supercharged-model lineage but should not be assigned the H2R’s status or specifications. Kawasaki says the H2 and H2R were developed in 2015 as supercharged machines focused on acceleration (Kawasaki technical history). Cycle World’s 2015 H2 road test recorded a quarter-mile in 9.62 seconds at 152 mph; that is a timed acceleration result, not a maximum-speed measurement (Cycle World, 2015).
3. Ninja ZX-14R
Cycle World’s 2012 test measured a 185 mph top speed and described the result as electronically limited. The same test recorded a quarter-mile time of 9.47 seconds at 152.83 mph; the quarter-mile terminal speed is not the bike’s maximum speed (Cycle World, 2012).

4. Ninja ZX-12R
Cycle World reported 187 mph in its 2000 ZX-12R test and called it the second-fastest production motorcycle at that time. The report also discussed a developing 186 mph manufacturer speed-limit agreement and said the tested bike had been altered to bring its speed within proposed limits. That historical context makes the result unsuitable for a direct comparison with later tests (Cycle World, 2000).
5. Ninja 1000 (1986/1987)
In a 1988 account, Cycle World said its radar registered 159 mph for the 1986/1987 Ninja 1000, describing it as the fastest production-streetbike top speed the magazine had recorded to that point. It is a dated magazine benchmark, not a current all-time Kawasaki ranking (Cycle World, 1988).

6–10. Other Kawasaki candidates
Other Kawasaki generations may belong in a broader historical survey of fast motorcycles, but the cited evidence does not provide comparable, attributable maximum-speed measurements for five additional distinct models. Naming them as the next-fastest, or assigning them speeds based on engine output, gearing, or unsourced claims, would imply a ranking the available evidence cannot support. This article therefore does not manufacture five more entries to make a ten-bike speed order appear proven.
Why the figures do not make a clean leaderboard
- The 159 mph, 187 mph and 185 mph figures come from Cycle World reports published in 1988, 2000 and 2012, respectively; they are not results from one shared test protocol.
- The ZX-14R result is explicitly electronically limited, while the ZX-12R account describes a modified test bike and the period’s proposed manufacturer speed-limit agreement.
- The H2R’s current official figures describe power, while the H2’s cited 152 mph is a quarter-mile terminal speed. Neither is an independently measured maximum speed in the cited evidence.
- A speed-focused reputation, horsepower figure, or short-course result cannot by itself establish a maximum-speed rank.
What the evidence can establish
Among the specific maximum-speed figures cited here, Cycle World reported 187 mph for the 2000 ZX-12R, 185 mph for the 2012 ZX-14R, and 159 mph for the 1986/1987 Ninja 1000 in its 1988 account. Each result needs its own date and test qualification. The evidence does not establish a controlled top ten, nor an H2R maximum speed.
