For under $30,000, the realistic way to shop for a fast four-door is to look used. The cars below are performance-oriented sedans or hatchbacks with a plausible route to the budget, but they are not a verified ranking of the ten fastest: comparable acceleration tests and current transaction prices were not established for all of them. Treat $30,000 as a listing filter, then check the exact year, trim, mileage, condition, title history and local price before deciding.
How to read this shortlist
“Four-door sports car” is a broad shopping term. It can include sedans and hatchbacks tuned for performance, as Car and Driver’s definition does, but not every quick four-door has track-focused handling. The Avalon, for example, is better understood as a powerful, roomy sleeper than as a sports sedan.
The table is a starting point, not a promise that every example is under budget. Horsepower figures are publisher specifications, not results from a common test. Prices and availability vary with the specific car and market. Car and Driver says its used-luxury rankings draw on roughly 200 data points—including acceleration, handling, comfort, cargo space, fuel efficiency, value and driving enjoyment—and advises shoppers to account for age, mileage and condition. That methodology is useful context, but it is not a head-to-head test of every car here. Car and Driver’s used luxury cars under $30,000 guide and four-door sports-car guide explain those editorial frames.
| Candidate | Why it belongs on the list | Budget and specification evidence | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2021 Subaru Legacy Limited XT | Practical, all-weather sedan with a turbocharged engine | Kelley Blue Book (KBB) lists 260 hp for the Limited XT and says the trim is within budget reach; AWD is standard across the Legacy line. | Confirm the specific Limited XT’s asking price and condition; don’t assume the budget reach applies to every listing. |
| 2020 Toyota Avalon V6 | Roomy, comfortable sedan with sleeper potential | KBB lists 301 hp for the V6 and describes the Avalon as larger and more comfortable than a Camry. | Buy it for its power and space, not on the assumption that it handles like a track-focused sports sedan. |
| BMW 3 Series | Compact luxury sedan with a driver-oriented character | Car and Driver displays 2022 examples starting at $17,918, but its listed range extends well above $30,000. KBB says most 2022 examples under its cap are 255-hp 330i or 330e models; some have xDrive. | Identify the precise model, engine, hybrid status and drivetrain. The starting figure does not mean every 3 Series fits the cap. |
| Genesis G70 | Performance-minded luxury sedan with a more powerful available configuration | Car and Driver displays 2023 used examples starting at $18,500 and describes an available 365-hp powertrain. | Check which engine and trim the listing has; the displayed starting price does not establish that every version or condition fits the budget. |
| 2021 Acura TLX | Premium sedan with a potential all-wheel-drive configuration | KBB identifies the 2.0 SH-AWD with Advance package as within budget reach and names Technology or Advance packages as value targets. | Confirm engine, package and drivetrain in the actual listing, then compare the price with the car’s condition. |
| 2022 Kia Stinger | Performance-oriented four-door hatchback with available AWD | KBB says versions should fit its budget list and identifies the GT1 as a sweet spot, highlighting performance and tactile steering. | Check whether the car is a base, GT1 or another trim before relying on any power or acceleration claim. |
| 2020 Dodge Charger R/T | Large sedan with V8 power | KBB says the R/T’s 5.7-liter V8 produces 370 hp and is attainable on a $30,000 budget. | Keep the comparison specific to the R/T; higher-output Charger versions are a different budget proposition. |
| Subaru WRX | Purpose-built sports sedan with standard manual availability and AWD | iSeeCars describes the redesigned-for-2022 WRX with a 271-hp turbocharged four-cylinder, AWD and a standard six-speed manual. | Current used prices for a particular WRX were not established by that source, so verify local listings before treating it as a sub-$30,000 buy. |
Specification and shopping-guide details above come from publisher pages accessed in 2026: Kelley Blue Book, Car and Driver and iSeeCars. These are guide and listing references, not one consistent comparison test.

Which one should you start with?
For all-weather practicality: Subaru Legacy Limited XT
The Legacy Limited XT is the sensible place to start if you want a conventional sedan, standard AWD and useful turbo power. Its 260-hp figure is specific to the Limited XT, not a claim about every Legacy. Prioritize the exact car’s condition and price over the trim badge.
For space and relaxed power: Toyota Avalon V6
The Avalon’s 301-hp V6 and larger, comfort-oriented character make it a compelling fast family sedan, especially if rear-seat room matters. It is not the pick for someone whose definition of “sports car” requires sharp, track-oriented handling.

For a compact premium drive: BMW 3 Series or Genesis G70
Both are worth considering if you want a sportier luxury-sedan feel. The 3 Series listing pool includes materially different 330i and 330e powertrains, with xDrive on some cars. The G70’s cited 365-hp figure applies to an available configuration; it is not a specification for every used G70. Pin down the individual engine and drivetrain before comparing.
For a V8: Dodge Charger R/T
The R/T is the clearly specified V8 choice in this shortlist: KBB identifies its 5.7-liter engine and 370 hp. Don’t transfer that figure to other Charger trims, or treat the R/T as equivalent to the much more powerful versions that sit outside this budget framing.

For a sport sedan or hatchback feel: Acura TLX, Kia Stinger or Subaru WRX
The TLX’s cited budget-relevant configuration is the 2.0 SH-AWD with Advance package. The Stinger’s trim matters, particularly if you are comparing a GT1 with a base car. The WRX is the most explicitly sports-sedan-oriented option here, but the cited source establishes its powertrain rather than current local prices.
How to shop without letting the badge set the budget
- Set filters for the exact car. Search by model year and trim, and add engine and drivetrain where the listing site allows it. A model name alone can cover substantially different powertrains and prices.
- Keep the total budget in view. An advertised price below $30,000 is not the same as an all-in purchase cost. Account for local taxes, registration, inspection and any immediate maintenance when setting your maximum offer.
- Compare condition, mileage and history. A lower-mileage or better-maintained example can be a stronger buy than a more powerful trim with unresolved issues. Review the title and vehicle history, and have a specific car inspected before purchase.
- Match the car to everyday use. Consider rear-seat and cargo needs, ride comfort, fuel use, winter-weather traction and likely running costs alongside acceleration and steering. AWD may help with traction in poor weather, but it does not remove the need for suitable tires or careful driving.
- Verify the local market before committing. Starting prices in editorial shopping guides are not guaranteed sale prices or proof of broad local availability. Check nearby listings for the exact specification and compare cars in similar condition.
What this list can—and cannot—tell you about speed
These candidates have credible performance or powertrain reasons to shop them, but the available figures do not establish a reliable fastest-to-slowest order. A horsepower number alone cannot supply one: acceleration also depends on transmission, drivetrain, vehicle weight, tires and test conditions. A fair 0–60 comparison would require same-method results tied to the exact model year, trim and transmission. Until those are verified, choose by the specific car’s configuration and overall fit rather than treating this as a speed ranking.
