Check the range of the exact trim, the charging options along your route, how quickly the vehicle can accept power, and whether its cabin and cargo area suit your passengers and luggage.
The available current evidence supports three examples—the 2026 Hyundai IONIQ 5, Chevrolet Equinox EV, and Cadillac LYRIQ—but does not establish ten SUVs with comparable, verified specifications. Rather than invent a ranked top ten or fill gaps with unverified numbers, this guide explains how to assess the candidates and what the confirmed examples show.
What makes an electric SUV suitable for a road trip?

- People and bags: Confirm seating, cargo capacity, and the specific cabin configuration with the automaker. A vehicle that works for one or two travelers may not be practical for a family with luggage.

For many road trips, planning to charge to roughly 80% and then continue can save time compared with waiting for a full charge, according to EPA guidance. How to choose among these examples
Choose by drivetrain and the range you can actually buy
For the IONIQ 5 and Equinox EV, use the listed figure only if it matches the trim and drivetrain you are shopping. A model’s highest estimate should not be treated as the range of every version. For the LYRIQ, do not infer a range comparison from its charging-adapter information; check the current EPA figure for the specific configuration separately.
Choose by route, not by a charger’s headline power
Map the trip before deciding that a particular SUV or network will work. Identify charging stops on the route, check network access, and consider how long the vehicle may need at each stop. A high-power charger cannot make a vehicle charge faster than its own DC limit, and charging to around 80% may be a useful time-saving target when the next leg and available chargers make it practical.
