The remaining figures come from separate magazine tests, not a single head-to-head comparison. This is a compilation of published results, including earlier model variants where identified, so the order reflects reported elapsed times rather than a controlled ranking of current EVs.
Published quarter-mile times for electric cars
A quarter-mile is 1,320 feet. Elapsed time determines the order below; trap speed, when supplied, is listed separately. A quicker elapsed time does not automatically mean a higher finish-line speed.
| Rank | Vehicle and tested configuration | Quarter-mile time | Trap speed | Test context |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Rimac Nevera | 8.25 seconds (Dewesoft, 2023); 8.26 seconds (Racelogic, 2023) | Not stated by Rimac | Rimac reports both verifier readings from one record session. The run used one-foot rollout, road-legal Michelin Cup 2 R tires and non-prepped asphalt at ATP Papenburg. Manufacturer-reported record event, not an independent comparison test. Rimac |
| 2 | 2025 Lucid Air Sapphire | 9.1 seconds | 155 mph | Car and Driver test; tested cars wore Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS tires. Car and Driver averages the best run in each direction to reduce wind or slight elevation effects. Car and Driver |
| 3 | 2025 Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Weissach | 9.23 seconds | 150.1 mph | MotorTrend test. MotorTrend |
| 4 | 2024 Lucid Air Sapphire, production version | 9.3 seconds (9.269 seconds unrounded) | 156.0 mph | MotorTrend’s production-car result. The publication separately identifies a 9.2-second prototype result; that prototype time is not used here. MotorTrend |
| 5 | Tesla Model S Plaid | 9.343 seconds | Not stated in MotorTrend’s cited ranking | MotorTrend ranking figure; other sources have published different Plaid results, so this is not a universal model capability. MotorTrend |
| 6 | Lucid Air Dream Performance Edition | 10.1 seconds | 142 mph | Car and Driver’s 2022 test of the 1,111-hp Dream Performance Edition; this is an earlier variant, not a Sapphire. Car and Driver |
| 7 | Porsche Taycan Turbo S sedan | 10.3 seconds | 132 mph | Car and Driver test; this is the Turbo S sedan, not the Turbo GT Weissach. Car and Driver |
| 8 | Tesla Model S Performance | 10.6 seconds | 126 mph | Car and Driver test using Cheetah mode; this is distinct from the three-motor Model S Plaid. Car and Driver |
The available published results support eight distinct relevant configurations, not ten. Adding two entries without comparable, sourced results would mean inventing times or implying a ranking the evidence does not establish.
Why quarter-mile results are not perfectly comparable
Even a small difference between published figures can reflect test procedure as well as the car. These results were not recorded in one shared test, and not every source reports every condition.

- Educational STEM tools: A great choice for who love architecture and science. Fun and fun, these tanker kits will make for an enjoyable learning experience and give them great satisfaction while assembling their own electric motor kit. Create a circuit and let the fun begin.
- Pros: Cultivate hands-on ability, and thinking ability, you will explore the fun of solar and wireless control through this kit. Learn about circuits, engineering, energy conversion, and more.
- Easy to assemble: Our science tools include all the tools and materials you need to assemble - laser-cut wooden components, clear and simple instructions in English. No electric soldering iron, no soldering, simple assembly.
- Simple design: delicate and small, simple atmosphere, beautiful workmanship, every detail is clearly visible.
- Package includes: 1 set of DIY power car accessories.
- Rollout: A one-foot rollout starts timing after the car has moved the first foot. Rimac says the Nevera’s record acceleration runs used it. A result with rollout should not be treated as directly interchangeable with a result using a different timing convention.
- Surface and launch: Track preparation and launch procedures affect how much grip a car can use. MotorTrend notes that a prepped surface mattered to an earlier Model S Plaid sub-two-second 0–60-mph result; that is not itself a quarter-mile result, but it illustrates why surface conditions matter. MotorTrend
- Tires and direction: The 2025 Sapphire test used Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS tires. Car and Driver averages its best run in each direction to reduce wind or slight elevation effects, while the cited Nevera record used road-legal Michelin Cup 2 R tires on non-prepped asphalt. Those are different test contexts, not a common tire or track protocol. Car and Driver; Rimac
- Variant and model year: A Model S Performance is not the three-motor Plaid; a Taycan Turbo S is not the Turbo GT Weissach; and the Dream Performance Edition is not the later Air Sapphire. Keep each published time attached to the exact tested configuration.
- Production versus prototype: Use the Sapphire’s 9.3-second production result for this list, not the separately reported prototype figure. Prototype results do not establish production-car performance.
What the quickest figures tell you
The Nevera has the fastest result in this compilation, at 8.25 seconds according to Dewesoft’s verification of Rimac’s record session. Among the magazine-tested production cars listed, Car and Driver recorded the 2025 Lucid Air Sapphire at 9.1 seconds, while MotorTrend reported 9.3 seconds for a production Sapphire and 9.23 seconds for the Taycan Turbo GT Weissach. Those separate results should stay attributed to their publishers: tenths of a second across different tests do not create a definitive head-to-head ranking.
Rimac founder and president Mate Rimac described the Nevera program this way: “When we set out to engineer the Nevera, our performance targets were incredibly ambitious, and we’ve now managed to overshoot all of those.” The quotation appears in Rimac’s manufacturer news release. Rimac
