There is no one dual-sport motorcycle that is best for every commute and every trail. Your choice depends on how much of the week you spend on pavement, how fast and far you ride, the difficulty of your weekend routes, your fit on the bike and your budget. The ten candidates below are useful starting points, not a verified ranking: the available manufacturer information spans different model years and markets, and it does not establish real-world comfort, reliability or performance.

For current U.S. specifications and pricing, the clearest evidence here is for the 2026 Kawasaki KLX300, 2026 Honda CRF300L Rally, 2026 Suzuki DR650S, 2026 Suzuki DR-Z4S+ and 2026 Kawasaki KLR650 S. Other candidates are included with their model-year or availability limits made explicit.

How to choose a dual-sport for commuting and weekend rides

Start by matching the bike to your actual routes rather than treating “dual-sport” as a guarantee that every model will suit every road and trail. A short urban commute followed by maintained dirt roads poses different demands from a long highway ride followed by narrow or rough trails.

  • Fit and mass: Compare published curb weight and seat height with your ability to manage the motorcycle at stops and on uneven ground. Neither a low seat nor high ground clearance alone establishes trail suitability.
  • Fuel capacity: Tank size is a specification, not a range promise. Fuel use and practical range depend on conditions; comparable consumption test data is not available for these candidates.
  • Wheels and tires: Wheel dimensions affect the tire options to investigate. Confirm approved tire sizes and ratings for the exact motorcycle before buying.
  • Road equipment: Consider wind protection, road equipment and ABS against your commute and the model’s exact trim. Manufacturer specifications do not prove comfort, highway stability or handling.
  • Trail needs: Check suspension travel and ground clearance for the terrain you expect to ride; the available evidence does not provide a consistent comparison of these measurements across all ten bikes.
  • Price: Distinguish base MSRP from total dealer cost. Listed manufacturer prices may exclude taxes, title, registration, dealer fees and optional equipment.

Ten dual-sport candidates to compare

1. Kawasaki KLX300 (2026)

Kawasaki describes the KLX300 as a lightweight dual-sport. Its U.S. 2026 listing specifies a 292 cc engine, six-speed transmission, 35.2-inch seat height, 302.1-pound curb weight and 2.0-gallon fuel capacity. The non-ABS model has a listed base MSRP of $5,649, with a separate $650 destination charge; these are manufacturer-listed U.S. figures, not an out-the-door price. [Kawasaki KLX300]

The air-cooled 229cc, 4 stroke engine is good for about 63 mph, depending on the rider’s weight. The 250 Enduro has a steel frame and weighs in at 310 lbs; the maximum weight it can carry is rated at 331 lbs
  • HHH Upgraded EAGLE 250 Street motorcycle. This item is a gas powered 250cc Street Motorcycle for youth and adult.

The published weight is lower than the 2026 Honda CRF300L Rally’s, while the seat height is the same. That makes the KLX300 worth comparing for riders prioritizing a lighter published figure, but the figures alone do not establish which bike is easier to handle or better on a particular trail.

2. Honda CRF300L Rally (2026)

Honda lists a 286 cc liquid-cooled single, six-speed transmission, 35.2-inch seat height, 333-pound curb weight and 3.4-gallon tank for the 2026 U.S. Rally. Its listed U.S. base MSRP is $6,499 plus a $600 destination charge. Honda describes its larger tank, taller windscreen and extended bodywork as Rally and touring features. [Honda CRF300L Rally]

Honda also specifies a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel, noting that this combination offers tire choices for both trail and on-road use. Check tire fitment and ratings for the exact model before choosing replacements. The larger tank is useful information when comparing capacity, but it does not establish real-world range.

3. Suzuki DR650S (2026)

Suzuki positions the DR650S for town, highway and trail riding and specifies street/dirt tires. The manufacturer reports tank capacity of 3.2 or 3.4 U.S. gallons depending on version. A genuine Suzuki accessory kit can lower seat height by 40 mm (1.6 inches). The cited page’s exact current price and a complete comparable specification set are not established here. [Suzuki DR650S]

The accessory lowering option may matter to riders assessing fit, but it should be evaluated alongside the motorcycle’s full dimensions and intended terrain rather than treated as a complete measure of manageability.

4. Suzuki DR-Z4S+ (2026)

The DR-Z4S+ is a distinct, accessorized version of the DR-Z4S. Suzuki lists a skid plate, handguards and brake rotor guards as standard on the +, as well as 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels, a 2.3-gallon tank and a 36.2-inch seat height. Do not assume those standard accessories or any + pricing apply to the standard DR-Z4S. [Suzuki DR-Z4S]

5. Kawasaki KLR650 S (2026)

Kawasaki identifies the 2026 KLR650 S as the lower-seat-height trim. Its published specification gives a 32.1-inch seat height, and the product information lists a 6.1-gallon tank. Those figures make it a candidate to investigate for riders who value a lower listed seat and larger tank, but the available information is not enough for a complete comparison with lighter, trail-oriented bikes or to predict practical range. Confirm the exact trim and current specifications before purchase. [Kawasaki KLR650 S]

6. Honda CRF300L (2025)

Honda’s U.S. page is for the 2025 CRF300L, not a verified 2026 listing. It gives a total MSRP of $6,349 and a curb weight of 311 pounds, and describes a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel set. Keep the model year attached to those figures; do not treat them as current 2026 pricing or specifications. [Honda CRF300L]

7. Yamaha XT250 (2025 page)

Yamaha’s U.S. page identifies the XT250 as a dual sport, but the available information does not establish 2026 availability or a comparable current specification set. It belongs on a shopping list only after checking the model year and local dealer availability. [Yamaha XT250]

8. KTM 390 Enduro R (2026 international listing)

KTM has an international 2026 model page for the 390 Enduro R. The available listing does not establish U.S. pricing, local availability or a complete set of specifications comparable with the U.S.-listed motorcycles above. Riders outside the U.S. should verify availability and specifications in their own market; U.S. shoppers should confirm whether the model is offered locally before treating it as an option. [KTM 390 Enduro R]

9. Kawasaki KLR650 (standard trim)

Kawasaki has a 2026 page for the standard KLR650, separate from the KLR650 S. The available details here do not establish a complete set of standard-trim specifications, so do not transfer the S trim’s 32.1-inch seat height to it. Compare the exact model-year and trim specifications with the S before deciding which version fits your routes. [Kawasaki KLR650]

10. Honda XR650L

Honda’s U.S. lineup references the XR650L, but the available information does not establish a dedicated current-year specification set for it. What the published figures can—and cannot—tell you

For the two 2026 U.S. models with the clearest directly comparable figures, Kawasaki lists the KLX300 at 302.1 pounds curb weight and 2.0 gallons of fuel capacity, while Honda lists the CRF300L Rally at 333 pounds and 3.4 gallons. Both have a published 35.2-inch seat height. These specifications help narrow a shortlist; they do not establish comfort, fuel range, handling or capability on a rider’s actual commute and trails.

Likewise, Honda’s 21/18-inch wheel sizes identify dimensions to use when checking tire options, not a universal recommendation for a particular tire. Verify the specific motorcycle’s approved fitments and ratings. If considering protective gear, Kawasaki advises riders to wear a helmet, eye protection and proper apparel; check applicable standards and product labeling when selecting equipment.

How to make the shortlist practical

  1. Write down your route: Estimate the share of pavement and dirt, typical highway speed and distance, and the type of trails or roads you plan to ride.
  2. Check fit in person: Compare seat height and curb weight, then assess whether you can manage the bike at stops and on uneven ground. Ask a dealer about factory or genuine accessory lowering options for the exact model.
  3. Verify model-year and trim: Confirm that the bike is sold in your market and that the quoted specifications belong to the exact version, especially for the DR-Z4S versus DR-Z4S+ and KLR650 versus KLR650 S.
  4. Compare the total purchase cost: Ask for a written on-road or out-the-door quote. Manufacturer MSRP and destination charges do not include every tax, registration or dealer charge.
  5. Check tires and equipment: Confirm tire fitment, ratings, ABS availability and road equipment on the specific bike rather than relying on a family name or another trim’s specification.
