Those are KBB’s listed figures—not prices verified here as original manufacturer MSRP, dealer offers, or out-the-door costs. The distinction matters: official launch pricing for the 2025 Sorento and Pathfinder was substantially higher than their figures in the ranking.
What the prices in this list mean
The ranking below reproduces Kelley Blue Book’s displayed starting prices and combined fuel-economy figures for its first ten entries, as accessed October 5, 2026. KBB does not state a clear update date for this ranking or define the basis of its “Starting Price” figures. Treat the prices as KBB’s displayed ranking data, not as guaranteed prices for a new vehicle or a quote from a dealer. The combined-mpg figures are likewise KBB page data; a common, separate EPA verification method for this table is not established.
Manufacturer pricing can provide a useful cross-check, but it is not directly interchangeable with KBB’s figures. For example, Kia’s announced MSRP for the 2025 Sorento LX FWD and Nissan’s announced MSRP for the 2025 Pathfinder S 2WD were both materially higher than the amounts shown for those models in KBB’s ranking. MSRP also excludes charges and does not guarantee the transaction price.

All ranks, prices, fuel-economy figures, and model notes in the table come from KBB’s ranking page. KBB’s first two entries tie at $24,900; the next listed prices are $26,600 and $26,900. The ordering shown reflects KBB’s page, including ties, rather than a fresh comparison of manufacturer MSRPs.

Why the displayed starting price needs a cross-check
Kia Sorento: KBB’s figure versus the announced MSRP
Kia America announced a $31,990 MSRP for the 2025 Sorento LX FWD on July 18, 2024, excluding $1,415 destination. That is $5,090 more than KBB’s displayed $26,900. Kia’s announcement covers the internal-combustion lineup; that LX price should not be applied to hybrid or plug-in versions. Kia’s 2025 Sorento pricing announcement gives the trim and charge details.
Nissan Pathfinder: the same basis question
Nissan announced a $37,070 MSRP for the 2025 Pathfinder S 2WD. Nissan states that MSRP excludes destination and handling, tax, title, license, and options, and that dealers set the actual price. The announced MSRP is $7,770 above KBB’s displayed $29,300. The difference shows why the two figures should not be treated as equivalent; it does not establish what KBB’s displayed price represents. Nissan’s Pathfinder pricing announcement lists its exclusions.

Model-year prices can change
Launch pricing is not necessarily the last price announced for a model year. Mazda North American Operations announced a $29,050 starting MSRP for the 2025 CX-5 in July 2024, then listed a revised $28,770 starting MSRP effective March 1, 2025. Mazda’s pricing document also records later 2025 changes for certain trims. The CX-5 is not among these ten, so its pricing is an example of changing model-year prices—not a basis for estimating the CX-90’s price. How to compare these SUVs for your budget
A low entry figure does not tell you whether two vehicles offer the same seating, equipment, or drivetrain. Before treating one as the cheapest option for your needs, compare the same kinds of prices and configurations:

- Price basis: Compare original MSRP with original MSRP, current dealer offers with current dealer offers, or used-market prices with used-market prices. Do not mix a ranking’s displayed starting figure with a manufacturer’s trim-specific launch MSRP as if they were the same measure.
- Charges and actual transaction price: Check destination and handling, taxes, title, license, options, and the dealer’s actual price. Manufacturer MSRP is suggested pricing, not a guaranteed purchase price.
- Seats and usable third-row space: The ranking includes two-row and three-row vehicles. Confirm how many passengers you need to carry and whether the third row works for your passengers and regular cargo.
- Drivetrain and trim: Verify whether the price is for front-wheel drive, all-wheel drive, or another configuration, and compare the equipment included in the specific trim.
- Fuel economy: Use a consistent source and compare the exact engine and drivetrain you are considering. The table reproduces KBB’s combined figures, not a separately verified common EPA comparison.
Is the Subaru Outback a midsize SUV?
KBB includes the Outback in its midsize-SUV ranking but describes it as sitting between SUV and wagon styles. That makes it a category boundary rather than an unambiguous match for every shopper’s definition of an SUV. If body style or a particular classification matters to your comparison, assess the Outback separately instead of assuming all lists classify it the same way.
