The strongest current U.S. evidence measures whether people returning to the new-vehicle market buy from the same make, manufacturer or model again—not how passionate they feel about it. Using the latest S&P Global Mobility loyalty awards as the basis for this editorial selection, the standout names include Tesla, General Motors, Chevrolet Equinox, Mini Cooper, Porsche 911, Honda Odyssey, Ford F-Series, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Lexus ES and Lincoln Corsair. They are category winners, not a measured universal top ten.
What “loyal fan base” means in the available data
Repeat purchasing is a useful indicator of customer retention, but it cannot establish affection, community participation or enthusiasm. S&P Global Mobility defines loyalty as a household with a new vehicle returning to market and acquiring another new vehicle from the same make, model or manufacturer. The replacement vehicle may replace an existing household vehicle or add to the fleet.
Its 2025 awards analyzed 13.6 million U.S. new retail vehicle registrations from October 2024 through September 2025. Because the awards divide loyalty into distinct categories, this article presents selected winners as an editorial list rather than ranking them against one another. S&P Global Mobility’s 2025 Loyalty Awards provide the underlying results.
10 vehicles and brands recognized for loyalty
The list combines manufacturer, make and model awards, so each entry should be read in its stated category—not as a claim that one car has a larger fan base than another.

Tesla
Category: Overall Loyalty to Make. Tesla won this award for the fourth consecutive year in S&P Global Mobility’s 2025 awards. It also received the Ethnic Market Loyalty to Make award and its sixth consecutive Highest Conquest Percentage award. These are separate measures, and none is a direct sentiment score.

General Motors
Category: Overall Loyalty to Manufacturer. GM won for the 11th consecutive year. Manufacturer loyalty groups a company’s makes together; it is not the same comparison as loyalty to one specific make or model.

Chevrolet Equinox
Category: Overall Loyalty to Model and Mainstream Utility. Equinox model loyalty rose four percentage points year over year after its redesign, according to S&P Global Mobility. That change is a year-over-year movement, not the model’s loyalty rate.

Category: Luxury Utility. The Corsair was the luxury-utility model winner.
The 2025 awards also recognized Subaru for Overall Loyalty to Dealer. That is a dealer-retention result, not Subaru make loyalty: S&P reported 43.7% dealer loyalty in Subaru’s high-volume East Coast markets, compared with a 37.9% national average.

A later S&P Global Mobility report gives a broader brand-level snapshot for the rolling U.S. period July 2025 through June 2026. Overall brand loyalty was 51.6%. Toyota led the listed mainstream makes at 59.0%, while Tesla led the listed luxury brands, excluding exotic brands, at 63.7%. These rates measure repeat brand choice, not fan sentiment, and the comparison groups differ.

S&P’s accompanying analysis also reports 62.3% loyalty for lessee households, 48.5% for financed purchases and 49.0% for cash purchasers. These are comparisons by purchase or ownership method; they do not show why one group returned to the same brand more often. The figures and segment breakdown are from S&P Global Mobility’s customer-loyalty analysis, which says its rates are updated quarterly.
Why the numbers cannot prove a car has devoted fans
- Different award levels answer different questions. Manufacturer loyalty can reflect retention across multiple makes; make loyalty is brand-specific; model loyalty is tied to one nameplate.
- Market segment changes the comparison. Mainstream and luxury rates differ, and the cited Tesla luxury comparison excludes exotic brands.
- Study rules matter. A separate summary of the 2025 J.D. Power U.S. study by Porsche says its calculations use September 2024–August 2025 transactions and count new-vehicle purchases or leases at franchised dealers after a trade-in. That scope differs from S&P’s registration-based awards. See Porsche’s summary of the J.D. Power study.
- Retention has many possible influences. Availability, replacement timing, dealer experience, financing and a vehicle’s fit with household needs can all coincide with a repeat purchase. The reported differences do not establish which factors caused loyalty.
- Fan enthusiasm is not measured here. Registration and transaction studies do not count owners’ club participation, online communities, events or emotional attachment.
So, which cars have the most loyal owners?
The answer depends on what “loyal” means. For the 2025 S&P Global Mobility awards, Tesla led make loyalty, General Motors led manufacturer loyalty and Chevrolet Equinox led model loyalty; other vehicles topped their own segments. In the later rolling-period brand data, Toyota led listed mainstream makes and Tesla led listed luxury brands excluding exotic brands. Those results identify repeat-purchase strength within defined categories, not the ten biggest fan communities.
