There is no current official J.D. Power top-ten list combining the car-buying process with service after the sale. This curated comparison brings together brands that stand out in the latest located sales or service results, while keeping those different measures—and their years—separate. Use it to narrow your options, then check the specific dealerships near you.
How to read this comparison
J.D. Power’s U.S. Customer Service Index (CSI) measures satisfaction with dealer service; its Sales Satisfaction Index (SSI) measures the purchase process. They use different samples and criteria, so their scores cannot be added or treated as one ranking. The 2026 CSI, published March 12, 2026, covered 51,228 verified owners and lessees of one- to three-year-old vehicles and was fielded from January through December 2025. The 2025 SSI chart reports a mass-market sales ranking, but cautions that numerical order does not necessarily mean score differences are statistically significant.
The ten brands below are a curated comparison, not an ordinal ranking. Some are included for service results, others for sales results, and several have evidence in both areas from different study years.
10 brands to consider for dealership experience
Porsche
Service strength: Porsche ranked first among premium brands in the 2026 CSI, with 915 points. In the study’s premium-car segment, Porsche tied Infiniti for the lead at 921. These are service-satisfaction results, not sales or vehicle-quality rankings.

Infiniti
Service strength: Infiniti was second among premium brands in the 2026 CSI at 912 points. It also tied Porsche for the premium-car segment lead at 921 and led the premium-SUV segment at 911.
Lexus
Service strength: Lexus ranked third among premium brands in the 2026 CSI, earning 900 points for dealer-service satisfaction.
MINI
Service and sales evidence: MINI led mass-market brands in the 2026 CSI service results at 887. In the 2025 SSI mass-market sales chart, MINI scored 820. The scores come from different studies and years, and should not be compared directly.

Subaru
Service and sales evidence: Subaru placed second among mass-market brands in 2026 CSI service satisfaction at 886 and led the mass-market SUV/minivan service segment at 887. It scored 823 in the 2025 SSI mass-market sales chart.

Mazda
Service and sales evidence: Mazda led the mass-market-car service segment in the 2026 CSI at 884. It scored 815 in the 2025 SSI mass-market sales chart.
Ford
Service strength: Ford led the truck service segment in the 2026 CSI at 869. This segment result is most relevant to shoppers whose ownership and service needs center on trucks.
Chevrolet
Sales strength: Chevrolet scored 821 in the 2025 SSI mass-market sales chart, placing third in that chart’s numerical order.
GMC
Sales strength: GMC scored 820 in the 2025 SSI mass-market chart. It appears alongside other brands with strong chart results, but the chart says its numeric order does not necessarily imply statistically significant differences.

What the studies actually measure
Buying a vehicle: SSI
The SSI focuses on the purchase process. J.D. Power’s 2024 SSI release describes factors including delivery, dealer personnel, working out the deal, paperwork, the dealership facility, and the dealership website. It also considers people who shopped at a dealership but bought elsewhere. In that 2024 study, 34,596 buyers who purchased or leased from March through May 2024 responded to a survey fielded July through September 2024. Overall purchase-experience satisfaction was 801 points, up from 793 in 2023.
The 2024 results provide useful context, but they are not a substitute for the 2025 mass-market chart. In 2024, Porsche led premium sales satisfaction at 851, followed by Infiniti at 840 and Jaguar at 838. MINI led mass-market sales satisfaction at 829, followed by Buick at 827 and Subaru at 825.
Maintaining a vehicle: CSI
The CSI measures satisfaction with service among owners and lessees of one- to three-year-old vehicles, including visits to franchised dealers and aftermarket providers. The 2026 study gives the greatest weight to service quality, followed by vehicle pick-up, the service advisor, the service facility, and service initiation.

Across the study, overall dealer-service satisfaction was 868 points in 2026, three points higher than the prior year. J.D. Power reported 979 points when all ten top service KPIs were met, compared with 632 when only three were met; this is an association in the study, not a guarantee of an individual customer’s outcome. The previous 2025 CSI, based on 55,210 verified owners and lessees and fielded July through December 2024, found that 12% of repairs were not completed correctly on the first visit. Among those customers, only 50% said they returned or planned to return to the dealership.
Vehicle category matters
Service leaders vary by vehicle type: Mazda led mass-market cars, Subaru led mass-market SUVs and minivans, Infiniti and Porsche tied for premium cars, Infiniti led premium SUVs, and Ford led trucks in the 2026 CSI. The 2025 CSI also found EV service satisfaction lagged ICE service satisfaction. A brand’s overall result may therefore be less informative if your likely vehicle type or powertrain differs from the segment behind that result.
How to compare dealerships near you
Brand-level averages are a starting point, not a promise about a particular store. Before choosing where to buy or service, compare the dealerships you could realistically use.

- For a purchase: Ask for an itemized written offer, check how clearly the dealer explains pricing and add-ons, and note responsiveness, paperwork, delivery arrangements, and the condition of the facility and website.
- For service: Compare appointment availability, expected completion time, how the advisor provides updates, what the estimate includes, and how the dealer handles a repair that does not resolve the issue on the first visit.
- For convenience: Ask about drop-off and pick-up arrangements, transportation options, and how the service department communicates if the work takes longer than expected.
- For a fair comparison: Evaluate the same vehicle or repair need at each location, and distinguish a brand-wide study result from what a dealer commits to in writing.
