“Budget-friendly” is relative when the subject is performance cars. For this list, it means new vehicles priced at roughly $60,000 or less before taxes, destination, options, registration, and dealer charges, plus discontinued models that offer compelling value on the used market.
The strongest new-car bargains here are the $42,970 Nissan Z Sport, $46,800 Ford Mustang GT, and $54,995 Dodge Charger Scat Pack. The Honda Civic Type R, Tesla Model 3 Performance, Genesis G70 3.3T, and used Kia Stinger GT make the list for a different reason: they deliver more than 300 horsepower while adding practicality, luxury, all-weather traction, or lower used-market entry prices.

Horsepower is only one part of the value calculation. A $40,000–$50,000 car with 315 to 420 hp may make more financial sense than a nearly $60,000 sports car, while a premium sedan with similar output can cost more to insure, service, and equip. Fuel, tires, brakes, insurance, charging equipment, and depreciation can change the ownership equation considerably.

The list is not ranked by acceleration or outright speed. Gasoline-engine horsepower and estimated EV output are not perfectly interchangeable, and the price figures do not represent out-the-door costs.
1. 2026 Nissan Z Sport
400 hp | $42,970 starting MSRP | Rear-wheel drive | Two seats
The Nissan Z Sport is the lowest-priced new car in this group and one of the clearest ways to get a dedicated rear-wheel-drive sports car with 400 horsepower. Its power comes from a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6, and the Sport trim is available with a manual transmission.

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchThat combination gives the Z a focused value proposition: it is not trying to be a family sedan, luxury cruiser, or practical crossover. It is a relatively affordable two-seat coupe for buyers who want a traditional sports-car layout and the involvement of a manual gearbox.
The $42,970 figure is a starting MSRP, not an out-the-door price. The base Sport is also less lavishly equipped than higher Z grades, so a buyer should compare the equipment difference before treating the lowest number as the final value. A larger wheel, premium trim, dealer markup, or accessories can quickly change the purchase price.
Best fit: A driver who wants the least expensive new 400-hp rear-wheel-drive sports car and values a manual-transmission option more than extra seats or cargo space.
2. 2026 Ford Mustang GT
486 hp | $46,800 starting MSRP | Rear-wheel drive | Fastback coupe
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe Mustang GT is one of the strongest horsepower-per-dollar choices among new cars. It uses a 5.0-liter V8 and starts below $50,000 before destination and other charges, while still offering rear-wheel-drive muscle-car hardware, a manual-transmission option, and an enormous aftermarket.
The published 486-hp figure applies to the GT configuration. Ford’s active-valve-exhaust variants may be advertised with a different output, so shoppers should confirm the exact trim and exhaust package rather than assuming every GT carries the same rating.
The Mustang is more usable than a two-seat sports car, but affordability does not end at the window sticker. Fuel consumption, insurance, rear tires, brakes, and optional performance equipment can become significant expenses. The low starting MSRP is most compelling when the buyer resists expensive option packages and budgets for the car’s consumables.
Best fit: Someone who wants a new V8 coupe, traditional rear-wheel-drive character, manual-transmission availability, and strong parts and aftermarket support.

3. 2026 Honda Civic Type R
315 hp | $47,395 starting MSRP | Front-wheel drive | Hatchback
The Civic Type R takes a different approach to performance value. Its turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder produces 315 hp, and the car combines that output with a usable hatchback body, a six-speed manual transmission, and a chassis developed specifically for enthusiastic driving.

It is the practical choice among the dedicated performance cars here. The rear seats and hatchback cargo area make it easier to use as a daily driver than the Nissan Z, Toyota GR Supra, or Mustang fastback, although its aggressive appearance and firm performance setup are not aimed at buyers seeking an ordinary, comfort-first Civic.
At $47,395, the Type R is expensive compared with standard Civic models. Its performance tires, brakes, and insurance profile should be included in the budget rather than treated as incidental costs. Tire replacement is particularly dependent on wheel size, season, driving style, and the exact trim equipment, so compare performance tires for the specific trim before buying replacements.
Best fit: A buyer who needs one car for commuting and cargo but still wants a manual transmission, front-wheel-drive agility, and more than 300 hp.
4. 2026 Dodge Charger R/T
420 hp | $49,995 two-door starting MSRP; $51,995 four-door | All-wheel drive | Two-door or four-door body with hatchback-style cargo flexibility
The new Charger R/T delivers 420 hp from Dodge’s 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged SIXPACK inline-six. Standard all-wheel drive and the available four-door body give it a different value proposition from a small two-seat sports car: it offers substantial power while retaining everyday practicality and all-weather traction.
The Charger’s hatchback-style cargo flexibility is useful for buyers who want muscle-car presence without giving up the ability to carry larger items. The two-door model starts at $49,995, while the four-door version starts at $51,995. Destination, taxes, title, registration, and dealer charges are extra.

One important clarification is that this is not simply the previous Charger with a new badge. The current Charger R/T uses the turbocharged SIXPACK inline-six rather than the HEMI V8 associated with the previous generation. Buyers specifically seeking a new HEMI-powered Charger should not assume that this model provides the same engine or ownership experience.
Best fit: Someone who wants more than 400 hp, all-wheel drive, muscle-car styling, and more practical cargo and seating options than a traditional sports coupe.
5. 2025 Genesis G70 3.3T
365 hp | Approximately $50,950 rear-wheel drive; $53,050 all-wheel drive | Luxury sedan
The Genesis G70 earns a place on the list only in its 3.3T form. That trim uses a twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 rated at 365 hp and adds the comfort, quietness, and four-door practicality expected from a luxury sedan.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Published trim pricing places the 3.3T Sport Advanced at approximately $50,950 with rear-wheel drive and $53,050 with all-wheel drive. Those figures vary by source, equipment, drivetrain, model-year availability, and market, so they should be treated as pricing context rather than a guaranteed transaction price.
The distinction between engines matters. The G70’s 2.5T engine is rated at exactly 300 hp, which does not meet this article’s strict “over 300 horsepower” threshold. The 3.3T is the relevant model for this list.
The G70 is a value in a different sense than the Mustang or Z. It prioritizes a premium daily-driving environment and available all-wheel drive rather than a lightweight, stripped-down sports-car experience. Insurance, tires, brakes, and scheduled service can still cost more than they would on a mainstream sedan.

6. 2026 Dodge Charger Scat Pack
550 hp | $54,995 two-door starting MSRP; $56,995 four-door | High-output Charger performance variant
The Charger Scat Pack is the headline horsepower bargain on this list. Its high-output version of the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged SIXPACK engine produces 550 hp, yet the two-door starts at $54,995 before destination and other charges. The four-door starts at $56,995.
Dodge lists a $1,995 destination charge for the quoted Scat Pack MSRP, so the effective starting figure is already higher before taxes, registration, options, and dealer charges. That distinction matters when comparing it with vehicles whose published prices may handle destination differently.
The Scat Pack is best understood as a high-output muscle car, not an inexpensive commuter. Fuel, insurance, tires, brakes, and performance options can materially affect the ownership budget. Buyers should also verify the drivetrain and equipment of the exact body style and build configuration instead of assuming that every advertised Scat Pack has identical specifications.

7. 2026 Tesla Model 3 Performance
Approximately 510 hp | $56,630 including destination and order fees | All-wheel drive | Electric sedan
The Tesla Model 3 Performance brings more than 500 estimated horsepower to a compact electric sedan. Edmunds lists approximately 510 hp, while Tesla describes the latest Performance drive unit as producing more than 500 hp. Because Tesla does not present horsepower using the same standardized format as most gasoline manufacturers, this number should be treated as a specification estimate rather than a directly comparable SAE-rated output.
Tesla’s current listed starting price is $56,630 including destination and order fees, but excluding taxes and other fees. That makes it a compelling performance-value proposition for buyers who have convenient home charging and want electric all-wheel-drive performance in a relatively compact package.
Its ownership calculation is different from the gasoline cars here. There is no engine oil service, but charging access, electricity rates, insurance, tire wear, depreciation, and software-dependent features matter. A home EV charger or NACS charging setup may be useful, but electrical capacity, installation requirements, connector compatibility, and charging speed should be confirmed before purchasing equipment.
Best fit: A buyer with dependable charging access who values electric power delivery and all-wheel drive more than engine sound, manual shifting, or traditional sports-car proportions.
8. 2026 Toyota GR Supra 3.0
382 hp | $58,300 starting MSRP | Rear-wheel drive | Two seats
The GR Supra 3.0 is a borderline inclusion under a budget-friendly definition, but it remains a relatively attainable way into a compact rear-wheel-drive sports car with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six. Its 382 hp rating clears the threshold comfortably, and Toyota offers both automatic and manual-transmission versions.
At $58,300 before taxes and fees, the Supra is not cheap. Its value comes from the performance hardware and compact sports-car format rather than from a low purchase price. It also has a more premium-feeling cabin than many traditional muscle-car alternatives, which may matter to buyers who want a two-seat car that feels special on every drive.

Toyota identifies 2026 as the final production year for the fifth-generation Supra. That makes model-year availability and dealer pricing especially important. Buyers should verify remaining inventory, equipment, and any dealer adjustment rather than assuming that the published MSRP will be the transaction price.
Best fit: A driver who wants a premium-feeling two-seat, rear-wheel-drive sports car with a six-cylinder engine and a manual option, and who accepts that “budget-friendly” here means performance value rather than low cost.
9. 2026 BMW M340i
386 hp | Standard-car MSRP requires live verification | Sports sedan
The BMW M340i is included as a used or discounted-new candidate rather than as a straightforward under-$60,000 purchase. Current U.S. specification data lists 386 hp, giving the sedan strong performance while retaining four-door practicality and premium refinement.
The exact base MSRP for the standard 2026 M340i should be checked in BMW’s live U.S. configurator before publication or purchase. The limited 50 Jahre Edition is listed at $75,200 plus destination, and it should not be presented as the budget version of the car.
For value-minded shoppers, a lightly used M340i or a discounted example may make more sense than a heavily optioned new car. However, BMW ownership can involve materially higher costs for options, tires, brakes, service, and repairs than a Mustang GT, Nissan Z, or Civic Type R. The M340i is therefore a good match for someone shopping for premium performance, not for someone whose main goal is the lowest possible cost per horsepower.
Best fit: A buyer who wants a refined performance sedan and is prepared to shop used or negotiate rather than insisting on a fully optioned new example.

10. Used Kia Stinger GT
Approximately 365 hp | Used-market purchase | Liftback-style performance sedan
The Kia Stinger GT is the used-value alternative in this group. U.S.-market GT versions use a twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 rated at approximately 365 hp, while Kia’s international technical material lists the engine at 370 PS. The international figure should not be copied as 370 U.S. horsepower without a market and unit conversion.
Because the Stinger has been discontinued, there is no current new-car MSRP to use as a comparison. Its value comes from depreciation and the combination of strong power, four-door usability, and a liftback-style cargo area. It can appeal to buyers who need more practicality than a Mustang, Z, or Supra but want more personality and output than an ordinary midsize sedan.
There is no single defensible nationwide used price without a dated inventory sample. Asking prices vary substantially by model year, mileage, drivetrain, GT trim, condition, accident history, location, and remaining warranty coverage. Before buying, check used inventory in the relevant local market and compare similar cars rather than relying on a national headline price.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsA pre-purchase inspection is especially valuable on a high-output used car. Review the VIN and recall history, request complete service records, inspect the tires and brakes, check for accident or flood damage, and confirm what warranty coverage remains. An independent pre-purchase inspection can reveal costs that are invisible in an online listing.
Best fit: A buyer who needs liftback practicality and four-door comfort but wants a discontinued performance sedan whose used-market depreciation can create more value than a comparable new luxury car.

How to choose among them
Start with the body style you can actually live with
- Two-seat sports cars: The Nissan Z and Toyota GR Supra prioritize the driving experience over passenger and cargo capacity.
- Fastback and hatchback practicality: The Mustang offers more everyday flexibility than a two-seater, while the Civic Type R, Charger, and Stinger provide particularly useful cargo access.
- Four-door comfort: The Genesis G70, BMW M340i, Tesla Model 3, and four-door Charger are better suited to regular passenger use.
Decide whether the powertrain matters more than the horsepower number
The Mustang’s V8, the Z and Supra’s turbocharged six-cylinder engines, the Civic Type R’s turbocharged four-cylinder, the Charger’s twin-turbo inline-six, and the G70 and Stinger’s twin-turbo V6s deliver power in different ways. Sound, throttle response, transmission choice, fuel use, and drivetrain layout may matter more to a buyer than a small difference in the quoted horsepower figure.
The Tesla Model 3 Performance adds another complication: its approximately 510-hp specification is an estimate, while Tesla’s own description uses “more than 500 hp” rather than the same standardized rating used by most gasoline manufacturers. Do not use horsepower alone to predict acceleration, range, reliability, or operating cost.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteManual-transmission choices are limited
The Nissan Z Sport, Ford Mustang GT, Honda Civic Type R, and Toyota GR Supra 3.0 offer manual-transmission paths. That can be a major reason to choose one of them, but it may also affect availability, resale demand, clutch wear, and insurance. The Charger, Model 3, G70, M340i, and Stinger should be evaluated according to their available automatic or electric drivetrains and the exact configuration being considered.
Price the ownership package, not just the car
- Get an out-the-door quote. Starting MSRP excludes taxes, registration, destination in many cases, options, documentation charges, and dealer-installed accessories. The Charger Scat Pack’s quoted price, for example, excludes a $1,995 destination charge. The Tesla figure already includes destination and order fees, so compare the labels carefully.
- Get insurance estimates before shopping seriously. A high-output coupe, a premium sedan, and a practical hatchback can produce very different premiums. It is sensible to compare insurance rates for the exact year, trim, location, driver profile, and coverage limits.
- Budget for tires and brakes. Performance tires can be expensive and may wear faster depending on alignment, driving style, weather, and road conditions. Wheel size and tire compound vary by trim, so use the correct fitment rather than buying by model name alone.
- Check the fuel requirement. Do not assume that every performance vehicle has the same fuel recommendation or fuel cost. Confirm the manufacturer’s required or recommended octane and use local fuel prices when estimating monthly expenses.
- Include charging costs for the Tesla. Home charging may require an electrician, suitable panel capacity, and compatible equipment. Public charging availability and electricity rates can change the value calculation.
- Reserve money for maintenance and unexpected repairs. A premium BMW or used performance car can have a very different service budget from a new mainstream-based performance model. Warranty status and service history matter especially on used examples.
Shop the market, not just the brochure
MSRP, dealer inventory, used-car asking prices, incentives, and equipment change by location. Before choosing a model, compare current listings for the exact body style and trim you want. For used cars, compare mileage, accident history, service records, tire condition, and warranty coverage—not just the advertised price.
If you are new to high-output cars, consider performance driving school or closed-course track-day instruction rather than learning the car’s limits on public roads. Driver education can be more valuable than another expensive performance option, and any high-powered vehicle should be operated within the law and appropriate safety conditions.
Why the 2026 Toyota GR Corolla is not on the list
Frequently Asked Questions
Are all 10 of these cars priced below $60,000?
No. The roughly $60,000 ceiling applies primarily to new-car starting prices before taxes and fees. The BMW M340i requires live MSRP verification and is more realistic as a lightly used or discounted-new candidate; the Kia Stinger GT is discontinued and belongs to the used market. The Toyota GR Supra is also a borderline inclusion at $58,300 before fees.
Which is the cheapest new car here with more than 300 horsepower?
The 2026 Nissan Z Sport has the lowest listed new-car starting MSRP at $42,970 and produces 400 hp. The Ford Mustang GT costs more at $46,800 but offers 486 hp, a V8, and a manual-transmission option.
Why is the GR Corolla excluded?
Toyota rates the 2026 GR Corolla at exactly 300 horsepower. That does not satisfy the strict wording “over 300 horsepower,” although it would qualify for a list covering cars with 300 hp or more.
Is the Tesla Model 3 Performance’s horsepower directly comparable with the gasoline cars?
Not perfectly. The Model 3 Performance is estimated at approximately 510 hp by Edmunds, while Tesla describes its drive unit as producing more than 500 hp. Tesla does not present the figure in exactly the same standardized way as most gasoline manufacturers, so horsepower comparisons should be treated as approximate.
What should I check before buying a used Kia Stinger GT?
Check the VIN and recall history, service records, title and accident history, remaining warranty coverage, tire and brake condition, drivetrain configuration, and signs of neglected maintenance. A qualified independent pre-purchase inspection is worthwhile because used asking prices alone do not reveal the car’s likely near-term costs.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: The Nissan Z Sport is the lowest-cost path to more than 300 hp and a rear-wheel-drive sports-car layout, while the Mustang GT offers one of the best new-car horsepower values with a V8. Choose the Civic Type R, Charger, G70, Tesla, or Stinger when practicality, all-weather traction, luxury, or charging access matters more than having a traditional coupe. The Supra and M340i can be excellent performance values, but neither should be mistaken for an inexpensive car once options and ownership costs are included.
