Folding electric trikes
These are the best fit when storage and vehicle transport matter. Electric assistance reduces the effort required to start, climb, and carry cargo, while a folding frame can make apartment or garage storage easier. Folding does not make an adult trike small, however. Check the folded length, width, and weight against your vehicle, elevator, storage room, or ramp before buying.

Upright electric trikes
Upright models feel more familiar to people coming from conventional bicycles. Their low-step frames can make mounting easier, and their rear baskets or cargo platforms suit errands. They are usually a better choice than recumbents for riders who want a conventional seated view and easy access to a basket, but they are often heavy and wide.
Traditional non-electric adult trikes
A pedal trike eliminates charging, battery replacement, motor troubleshooting, and much of the electrical-system complexity. It can be an excellent choice for flat neighborhood rides and short errands. The trade-off is significant on hills: a single-speed trike demands more effort, and its weight and three-wheel geometry do not make it equivalent to a lightweight bicycle.
Recumbent trikes
Recumbents place the rider in a lower, more supported seat with a backrest. They appeal to riders who dislike a conventional saddle or want a relaxed touring posture. They also have a different learning curve: mounting, steering, braking, visibility, and cornering feel unlike an upright trike. A dealer fitting or test ride is especially valuable.

1. Lectric XP Trike2: best overall value and best folding electric trike
The Lectric XP Trike2 is the most balanced choice in this group for buyers who want electric assistance without giving up the ability to fold the trike for storage or transport.
Lectric lists a 14-mph top speed, up to 50 miles of estimated range, and a 415-pound payload capacity. That payload figure must include the rider and cargo. The listed 500W configuration uses a 624Wh battery, while Lectric also describes a 750W long-range option. The frame has a stated 13.5-inch standover height, which is useful for riders who prioritize easier mounting. Tool-free assembly is another practical advantage for buyers who do not want a complicated setup.
Equipment is unusually complete for a value-focused folding model. The XP Trike2 includes hydraulic brakes, a suspension fork, lighting, turn signals, a brake light, and a differential rear axle. The UL 2849 certification is also a meaningful electrical-safety specification to check for an e-bike system.
Best for: apartment dwellers, seniors who need easier mounting, riders transporting a trike in a vehicle, and shoppers looking for a strong feature-to-price ratio.
Watch out for: “up to 50 miles” is not a guaranteed real-world distance. Rider weight, cargo, hills, temperature, tire pressure, wind, stop-and-go riding, and assist level all affect range. Also measure the folded trike rather than assuming “folding” means it will fit in any trunk.
2. RadTrike: best for approachable stability and accessory support
The RadTrike is aimed at riders who want a planted, upright electric trike with an approachable control layout. Its low step-through frame, backrest-equipped saddle, parking brake, reverse function, throttle, and pedal assist are its most useful everyday features.
Rad lists a 14-mph top speed, a 415-pound maximum payload, and an estimated range of 20 to 35-plus miles. The reverse function is particularly useful when maneuvering a heavy trike out of a garage or away from a parking spot. Compatibility with Rad Power Bikes’ broader accessory ecosystem also helps buyers build a practical cargo or comfort setup.
Best for: riders who value an upright riding position, reverse assistance, a parking brake, and a mature accessory ecosystem more than maximum range or compact storage.
Watch out for: the Rad product page located during research displayed the model as out of stock. Treat inventory and price as time-sensitive, and confirm that the trike, replacement battery, and desired accessories are available in your region before planning around this model.
3. Addmotor Grandtan M-340: best long-range fat-tire electric trike
The Addmotor Grandtan M-340 is the strongest choice here for buyers who put battery capacity, cargo utility, and fat-tire comfort ahead of low weight.
Addmotor specifies a 750W motor, a 48V 20Ah battery using Samsung cells, and an estimated range of up to 85 miles in PAS 1. The trike has a stated 20-mph top speed, UL 2271 and UL 2849 certifications, a step-through frame, fat tires, and a differential. Its stated payload is divided into a 350-pound rider limit plus 100 pounds of cargo, rather than presented only as one combined number.
The range figure needs careful interpretation. It is tied to low-assistance conditions, so it should be treated as a manufacturer estimate rather than a promise for a typical ride. The large battery is useful, but it also contributes to a trike that is less convenient to lift, load, or store than a folding model.

Best for: long errands, paved streets with rough sections, riders who want extra tire cushioning, and shoppers who need more cargo capacity than a compact folding trike provides.
Watch out for: measure the storage area and confirm how the trike will be moved when the battery is depleted. Fat tires can improve comfort on some surfaces, but they do not remove the need to manage width, braking distance, and cornering speed.
4. Addmotor Grandtan Turbo: best hill-oriented premium electric trike
The Addmotor Grandtan Turbo is the performance-oriented choice for riders facing hills or regularly carrying substantial loads.

- TRUSTED SCHWINN QUALITY: Schwinn is the original American bike brand. We’ve spent over 130 years building the bicycle industry into what it is today, and we’re not done yet. Each product is designed in Madison, WI.
The manufacturer describes a 1,000W mid-drive motor with up to 160Nm of torque, a 48V 20Ah battery, an estimated range above 85 miles in PAS 1, and a 20-mph top speed. The equipment list also includes differential steering behavior and a parking brake. A mid-drive can be an appealing configuration for hill-focused riding because the motor works through the drivetrain, but the practical result still depends on rider weight, gearing, surface, assist setting, and local regulations.

Watch out for: the range, torque, and performance descriptions are manufacturer specifications, not independent comparative test results. Before purchase, check how your state, province, or country classifies a 20-mph, 1,000W electric trike. Classification can affect where it may legally be ridden and what equipment or age restrictions apply.
5. Sun Electric 24-inch Traditional: best classic upright electric trike
The Sun Electric Traditional trike keeps the familiar upright adult-trike format while adding electric assistance and a large rear basket.
ElectricTrike.com lists a 500W front-hub motor, 1,000W peak output, torque-sensing control, a 48V battery, and a thumb throttle. Parking locks, a low step-through frame, and a stated 27- to 45-inch inseam range make it particularly relevant to riders who want conventional ergonomics and easy mounting. The listed specifications include an 18-mph top speed, estimated range of 15 to 45 miles, and an 86-pound weight.

Both figures are time-sensitive and should be verified rather than treated as permanent specifications.
Best for: riders who want an upright cruiser posture, a familiar adult-trike layout, a large basket, and throttle access.
Watch out for: this is not a compact trike. Its 86-pound stated weight and full-size frame make vehicle transport and stair storage difficult. The 15- to 45-mile range also depends heavily on terrain, rider weight, weather, and assist use.
6. Schwinn Meridian 24-inch: best simple non-electric adult trike
The Schwinn Meridian adult tricycle is the sensible low-complexity choice for flat neighborhood rides and short errands where electric assistance is unnecessary.
It uses a step-through aluminum frame, single-speed gearing, an upright riding position, a wide rear stance, a springer seat, front and rear brakes, a parking brake, fenders, and a rear basket rated for up to 44 pounds. Schwinn listed the 24-inch model at $379.99 during research and included a limited lifetime warranty on the product.
The single-speed drivetrain is easy to understand and maintain, but it is also the model’s biggest limitation. Hills, headwinds, and heavy cargo will demand more from the rider than they would on an electric trike or a multi-speed recumbent.
Best for: buyers who want a relatively accessible purchase price, no battery-management routine, and a straightforward trike for local transportation.
Watch out for: a traditional delta trike should be cornered cautiously. Practice slow turns and braking in an open area, especially when carrying cargo. Three wheels do not make every maneuver automatically stable; speed, surface, load placement, and technique still matter.

7. TerraTrike Rambler: best comfort-oriented recumbent trike
The TerraTrike Rambler is the best fit for riders who want a relaxed recumbent position with substantial back support rather than the conventional saddle-and-handlebar posture of an upright adult trike.
TerraTrike’s current component documentation identifies the Rambler as an 18-speed model. The company’s leisure catalog listed the standard Rambler at $2,490 and the Rambler e+ at $5,880. Some listed inventory was marked out of stock or dealer-dependent, so buyers should confirm the exact version, motor equipment, price, and assembly arrangement.
The low seating position and supported back can make longer recreational rides more appealing, but the riding experience is different from an upright bicycle. Spend time learning how to mount, steer, brake, turn, and judge your position relative to traffic and parked vehicles.
Best for: riders prioritizing supported seating, relaxed posture, and leisure or touring use.
Watch out for: fit matters more than a simple frame-size label. Confirm leg extension, seat adjustment, handlebar reach, dealer setup, and the availability of local service before ordering.

8. TerraTrike Rebel: best entry-level recumbent option
The TerraTrike Rebel is the most approachable standard recumbent option in this selection. It is designed for riders who want the supported seat of a recumbent but do not need the more elaborate gearing or touring equipment of a higher-priced model.
TerraTrike’s component documentation identifies the Rebel as an 8-speed derailleur trike. The leisure catalog listed the standard Rebel at $1,850 and the Rebel e+ at $5,240. The standard Rebel is not electric, so the lower price comes with the need to supply all propulsion yourself.
Best for: recreational riders who want recumbent comfort at a lower entry price than the Rambler or more heavily equipped alternatives.
Watch out for: dealer stock and assembly support may determine the actual purchase experience. Ask whether the trike arrives adjusted and ride-ready, and whether the dealer can help with a follow-up fit.
9. TerraTrike Rogue: best urban recumbent trike
The TerraTrike Rogue is the urban-oriented recumbent choice in the group. Its internally geared CVT drivetrain is the defining feature, making it attractive to riders who prefer gear changes without a conventional exposed derailleur setup.
The combination of a supported recumbent seat and internal gearing suits city cruising and everyday riding where frequent changes in pace are more important than an elaborate touring specification. TerraTrike lists both standard and e+ variants in its leisure catalog, so the exact motor, battery, equipment, and price must be verified for the version a dealer is offering.
Best for: urban riders who want recumbent comfort and an internally geared drivetrain.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWatch out for: do not assume that every Rogue listing has the same equipment. Confirm the precise configuration, warranty path, assembly status, and current stock.
10. Sun EZ-Tri Classic SX: best delta recumbent value candidate
The Sun EZ-Tri Classic SX is a delta-style recumbent trike with a supportive seat and back. Available specification documentation identifies a 21-speed drivetrain.
It is worth considering for riders who want a recumbent seating position but prefer a delta layout with two rear wheels. That layout gives the model a familiar adult-trike relationship to the road, while the back-supported seat changes the riding posture substantially compared with a traditional upright trike.
Best for: buyers looking for a value-oriented recumbent with a supportive seat and a multi-speed drivetrain.

How to choose the right trike
Choose folding when storage or transport is decisive
Pick the Lectric XP Trike2 if the trike must fit into a limited storage space or be transported in a vehicle. Before buying, measure both the folded dimensions and the loading path. Include the width of doors, the height of the vehicle opening, and whether you can safely handle the folded weight without assistance.
Choose upright electric for errands and easy mounting
The RadTrike and Sun Electric Traditional are the most natural fits for riders who want a conventional upright position, a low step-through, and useful cargo capacity. The Rad emphasizes maneuvering aids and accessory compatibility; the Sun emphasizes a larger cruiser-style format, torque sensing, and a large basket.
Choose a fat-tire model for comfort on imperfect pavement
The Addmotor Grandtan M-340 is the clearest match when tire volume, battery capacity, and utility matter more than compactness. Fat tires may soften some bumps, but they add rolling and storage considerations. Confirm replacement tire availability and the manufacturer’s recommended pressure range.

The Grandtan Turbo makes the most sense for hills, heavy loads, or riders who know they need stronger assistance. A larger motor is not automatically better for every buyer: it can increase cost, weight, regulatory complexity, and the need for careful battery and brake maintenance.
Choose non-electric when simplicity is the priority
The Schwinn Meridian is the most straightforward choice for flat routes and short trips. It has no battery to charge or replace and no motor system to diagnose. The compromise is that hills and cargo are entirely the rider’s responsibility.
Choose recumbent when seat support matters most
Consider the TerraTrike Rambler, Rebel, Rogue, or Sun EZ-Tri Classic SX if a back-supported seat and lower riding posture are more important than the familiarity of an upright bicycle. A test ride is strongly recommended. The correct model depends on leg reach, seat angle, handlebar position, steering feel, and how confidently the rider can mount and stop.

Payload capacity
Compare payload figures carefully because manufacturers do not always present them in the same format. Lectric lists a 415-pound payload capacity that includes the rider and cargo. Addmotor describes the Grandtan M-340 as supporting a 350-pound rider plus 100 pounds of cargo. Do not add a basket’s advertised capacity to the trike’s maximum payload unless the manufacturer explicitly permits that interpretation.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Range
Electric-trike range is an estimate, not a guarantee. The most optimistic numbers in this guide are tied to low-assistance conditions: the Grandtan M-340 is listed at up to 85 miles in PAS 1, and the Grandtan Turbo is listed above 85 miles in PAS 1. The Lectric XP Trike2 is listed at up to 50 miles, while Rad lists 20 to 35-plus miles and the Sun Electric Traditional lists 15 to 45 miles.
Expect less range when carrying a heavy rider or cargo, climbing hills, using high assist or throttle frequently, riding into wind, running underinflated tires, or riding in cold weather. If you need a reliable round trip, leave a substantial reserve rather than planning to reach the advertised maximum.
Speed and local rules
The electric models in this guide list top speeds from 14 to 20 mph, while the Sun Electric Traditional is listed at 18 mph. Those numbers do not by themselves determine whether a trike is legal on every road, path, or bike lane. E-bike rules vary by jurisdiction and may depend on motor output, assisted speed, throttle operation, labeling, age, helmet use, and where the vehicle is ridden. Check the rules where you live before purchase.
Weight and width
A full-size electric trike can be difficult to lift even when it has a low step-through frame. The Sun Electric Traditional is listed at 86 pounds, and the Addmotor models are substantial utility trikes. Ask how the trike will be moved when it cannot be ridden: up a ramp, into a shed, onto a carrier, or through a doorway.
Battery safety and replacement support
For an electric trike, verify the battery’s certification, the correct replacement-battery path, charger availability, warranty terms, and whether service is handled directly by the manufacturer or through dealers. Do not substitute an unapproved charger or battery simply because the voltage appears similar.
Safety and useful accessories
A trike should be practiced before it is used in traffic or loaded with valuable cargo. Start in an empty parking area or quiet driveway. Practice straight-line braking, tight but slow turns, reversing if equipped, starting on a slight incline, and stopping with the parking brake.
- Wear an adult bicycle helmet that fits securely and is appropriate for the riding conditions.
- Add a bicycle rearview mirror if the handlebars and control layout are compatible. A mirror helps reduce the need to turn the entire upper body, but it does not replace a shoulder check when safe visibility requires one.
- Keep a bike floor pump and a bicycle tire repair kit available. Check tire pressure before riding; underinflation increases effort and can affect handling.
- For outdoor storage, choose an adult tricycle cover only after checking its width and length. A cover sized for a conventional bicycle may not protect a full-size trike, basket, controls, or rear axle.
- Use cargo straps or an organized basket liner so that loads cannot shift toward the wheels, pedals, brakes, or steering components.
- Use the installed lights and turn signals where provided, and add approved visibility equipment if your local riding environment requires it.
Important handling differences
Traditional delta trikes can feel stable when stopped, but riders should be cautious with speed and cornering. Slow down before a turn, keep cargo low and centered, and avoid abrupt steering inputs. A recumbent trike has a lower seat and a different steering response; give yourself time to learn its width, turning path, braking behavior, and visibility from the lower position.
Pre-purchase checklist
- Measure the rider: confirm inseam, leg extension, reach, and the ease of stepping over or into the frame.
- Measure the destination: check doorways, garage spaces, elevators, storage sheds, vehicle openings, and ramps.
- Calculate the real load: add rider, groceries, baskets, locks, and accessories. Stay within the manufacturer’s rider-plus-cargo limit.
- Map the route: identify hills, rough pavement, narrow paths, traffic exposure, and places where a wide trike may be difficult to turn around.
- Decide how much assistance you actually need: a non-electric trike is simpler and cheaper, while an electric model is more practical for hills, distance, or heavier loads.
- Confirm support: ask who handles assembly, adjustments, warranty work, replacement batteries, tires, brakes, and ordinary service.
- Check the exact version: names such as e+, long-range, and Turbo can represent different motor, battery, gearing, or equipment packages.
- Verify current stock and price: especially for RadTrike and dealer-dependent TerraTrike and Sun models.
- Take a test ride if possible: test mounting, starting, braking, slow turns, reverse maneuvering, and loaded handling.
Which of these trikes is best for seniors?
There is no single universally best senior trike because mobility, strength, balance, route grade, storage, and confidence vary considerably. The Lectric XP Trike2 is the strongest general fit when folding storage, low standover height, and electric assistance are important. The RadTrike is worth considering for its low step-through, reverse function, parking brake, and upright position, subject to availability. The Sun Electric Traditional suits riders who want a familiar full-size upright trike and large basket.
A recumbent can be more comfortable for some riders, but its lower seat is not automatically easier to get into or out of. Test the mounting process and ask a dealer to fit the seat and controls.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are electric trikes easier to ride than non-electric trikes?
They can reduce the effort required to start, climb, and carry cargo, but they are often heavier and may require more attention to battery charging, braking, storage, and local e-bike rules. An electric trike is not automatically easier to lift, turn, or store.
What is the best folding electric trike on this list?
The Lectric XP Trike2 is the best folding electric option here. It has a stated 14-mph top speed, up to 50 miles of estimated range, a 415-pound rider-plus-cargo payload, tool-free assembly, a low stated standover height, hydraulic brakes, lights, turn signals, and a differential rear axle.
Is a recumbent trike safer than an upright adult trike?
The designs handle differently, so a broad safety ranking would be misleading. Recumbents offer supported seating and a lower riding position, while upright trikes may feel more familiar and provide a higher viewpoint. Both require practice with steering, braking, turning, visibility, and mounting.
How far can an electric trike travel on one charge?
The researched models list estimates from roughly 15 to 85-plus miles, but those figures are not directly comparable. The highest Addmotor estimates are tied to PAS 1, and real range falls with hills, cargo, high assist, throttle use, wind, cold temperatures, and low tire pressure.
Can I carry more than the advertised basket capacity?
Do not assume so. Keep the total rider-and-cargo load within the trike’s maximum payload, and keep cargo low, centered, and securely restrained. A basket rating and a total trike payload are separate limits unless the manufacturer explicitly says otherwise.
Do I need a helmet for an electric trike?
Helmet laws vary by location and the classification of the electric trike. Regardless of the local minimum, a properly fitted adult bicycle helmet is a sensible safety accessory. Also check visibility requirements and whether your trike’s speed, throttle, and motor rating change the applicable rules.
The Bottom Line
Buy the Lectric XP Trike2 if you want the best overall combination of folding convenience, electric assistance, equipment, and value. Choose the Addmotor Grandtan M-340 for long-range utility, the Grandtan Turbo for hills and heavy loads, the Schwinn Meridian for simple pedal-powered riding, or a TerraTrike or Sun EZ-Tri when supported recumbent seating is the priority. Before ordering, verify fit, rider-plus-cargo capacity, storage dimensions, replacement-battery support, dealer service, current inventory, and the rules that apply where you ride.
