10 Best KTM Motorcycles for Different Kinds of Riding

A use-case guide to ten KTM motorcycles, spanning adventure travel, road-and-dirt riding, enduro and street use—with model-year and market caveats.

There is no single “best” KTM for every rider: an adventure tourer, a dual-sport motorcycle and an enduro machine are built for different jobs. This guide compares ten notable options by intended use, using KTM’s international catalog and model-year-specific information where available. The Adventure list reflects KTM’s current international page, which includes 2026 models and some 2027 announcements; the Enduro examples are from KTM’s announced 2026 lineup. Model names and availability vary by market, so confirm the year, road legality and local specification with a KTM dealer.

How to choose the best KTM for your riding

Start with where and how you ride, not a universal ranking. KTM’s catalog spans motocross, enduro, cross-country, dual sport, travel, sports touring, supermoto, naked bikes, supersport and other categories. A competition-oriented enduro bike is not a substitute for a road-focused travel bike, even if both can be ridden off pavement. KTM’s international model catalog groups bikes by those categories.

  • Long road trips and mixed surfaces: look first at the Adventure range, which KTM positions for travel.
  • Road and dirt with a dual-sport emphasis: consider the 390 Enduro R, which KTM describes as suited to both.
  • Technical off-road riding: compare the purpose-built Enduro models, and check whether a particular version is road legal where you live.
  • Street riding: consider a naked model such as the 990 Duke, subject to local model-year availability.

The list below is a use-case guide, not a measured ranking: the available manufacturer information does not provide comparable independent tests, pricing and specifications for all ten bikes.

10 KTM motorcycles to consider

1. KTM 1390 Super Adventure S EVO — for high-capacity touring

This is a candidate for riders prioritizing a large-capacity adventure motorcycle for travel. KTM lists it on its international Adventure page. Compare its equipment, dimensions, local price and model-year specification with the other 1390 variants before deciding; the catalog listing alone does not establish a performance ranking.

  • SCALE MODEL - This quality crafted model is die-cast for durability. The 1:10 scale accurately represents the style and details.

2. KTM 1390 Super Adventure R — for adventure routes with an off-road focus

The Super Adventure R is another large-capacity option in KTM’s Adventure range. It is worth considering if your plans include more off-pavement riding than a road-biased touring setup suggests. Confirm the exact equipment and local availability for the model year you are shopping.

3. KTM 890 Adventure R Rally — for a more off-road-oriented adventure setup

KTM lists the 890 Adventure R Rally alongside its other Adventure models. Its position in the range makes it a candidate for riders seeking an adventure bike aimed more squarely at off-road routes. KTM’s listing does not supply a like-for-like comparison here, so check local specifications and equipment before weighing it against the standard R.

4. KTM 890 Adventure R — for mixed-surface travel

The 890 Adventure R sits in the Adventure family for riders who want a travel-oriented motorcycle and expect to leave paved roads. Its place on the current international catalog is established, but price and specification depend on market and model year.

5. KTM 790 Adventure — for a mid-capacity adventure option

The 790 Adventure offers an alternative to the larger 890 and 1390 models in KTM’s listed Adventure range. It is a sensible model to shortlist if you want an adventure-category bike without starting at the largest-capacity end of the lineup. Verify current availability in your country rather than assuming that the global catalog reflects local inventory.

6. KTM 390 Adventure R — for smaller-capacity adventure riding

KTM lists the 390 Adventure R as a smaller-capacity member of the Adventure family. It belongs on the shortlist for riders drawn to adventure travel who do not want to begin with one of KTM’s larger-displacement options. The cited catalog listing does not provide a complete set of comparable dimensions or prices for this guide.

7. KTM 390 Adventure X — for another smaller-capacity travel choice

The 390 Adventure X is also listed in KTM’s international Adventure range. Compare its market-specific equipment and price with the 390 Adventure R: the model names alone are not enough to determine which fits a particular route or rider.

8. KTM 390 Enduro R — for road-and-dirt use

KTM characterizes the 390 Enduro R for road and dirt, making it a distinct choice from the travel-positioned Adventure models. For the 2026 US model, KTM lists a base MSRP of $6,049 plus $600 freight. Its US technical specifications give a 398.7 cm³ displacement, 45 PS, 39 Nm, an 890 mm seat height and a 159 kg weight without fuel. Those figures apply to the specified US model year; KTM cautions that specifications can differ by country. See the 2026 US model and price listing and its US technical specifications.

9. KTM 350 EXC-F — for enduro riding

KTM named the 350 EXC-F in its announced 2026 Enduro lineup. It is a purpose-built enduro candidate rather than a general-purpose travel recommendation. Before buying, check local road homologation and registration requirements, as legality depends on the jurisdiction and exact version. KTM’s lineup announcement was published August 5, 2025, and lists the 2026 Enduro range.

Its current model year and availability are not established by the catalog evidence used here; confirm both with a local dealer before treating it as an on-sale option in your market.

What to check before buying

  • Market and model year: KTM’s global listings can show different years, and a model listed internationally may not be sold locally.
  • Road legality: especially for enduro and competition-oriented models, confirm homologation, registration and any restrictions in your jurisdiction.
  • Local out-the-door price: use a dealer quote that accounts for applicable freight and local charges. The 390 Enduro R price above is a US base MSRP plus freight, not a universal price.
  • Fit and intended terrain: check seat height, weight and equipment for the exact market version, then consider whether your typical riding is road, touring, mixed-surface, enduro or motocross.
