The best Android Auto navigation app depends on what you value behind the wheel. Google Maps is the easiest default, Waze is stronger for community-reported hazards, and HERE WeGo, Organic Maps, OsmAnd, and MapFactor are better suited to drivers who want offline maps. Paid choices such as TomTom GO Navigation and Sygic add specialist routing features, but their Android Auto functions depend on the subscription or license.
These apps are not interchangeable. Some have live traffic but need a data connection, some limit route editing on the car screen, and some are only useful in particular countries. Android Auto is integrated into current compatible Android phones, so it normally does not need to be installed as a separate phone app.

1. Google Maps: best default choice
Google Maps is the simplest recommendation for most Android Auto drivers. It combines turn-by-turn voice guidance, estimated arrival times, live traffic, lane guidance, saved locations, categories, and traffic-incident reporting in a familiar interface.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

- “Navigate to [location].”

- “Navigate to work.”
- “Stop navigation.”
To show traffic while a route is active, use Settings → Traffic. Incident reporting is more restricted: you must be signed in to a Google Account, and not every vehicle display lets you create a new report. Some systems can still display or vote on reports.
Google Maps is the best starting point if you want broad place coverage and dependable directions without learning another interface. Remember that live traffic and current incident information require connectivity.
2. Waze: best for community-reported incidents
Waze is the better choice when current driver reports matter more than a quiet, minimalist map. Its community can report traffic, police, crashes, hazards, bad weather, blocked lanes, and map errors.
Open it through App launcher → Waze → Search bar. Saved destinations are under Waze → menu icon → Saved; choose a place and tap Go. Supported voice examples include “Navigate to Union Square, San Francisco” and “Drive to 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View.”
To submit an incident, use Waze → report icon, choose Traffic, Police, Crash, Hazard, Bad weather, Blocked lane, or Map issue, then select Submit.
Waze is not a universal fit. Search and voice search vary by country and language, some Android Auto touchpads are unsupported, and instrument-cluster navigation only works in compatible vehicles. Destination typing may also be blocked until the vehicle is in Park with the handbrake engaged.
3. HERE WeGo: best for downloadable offline maps
HERE WeGo is a strong option for road trips through areas with weak cellular service. It supports online and offline navigation, downloadable maps, traffic avoidance, saved collections, route planning, and map layers. HERE lists both Android Auto and Android Automotive support.
Download the Android Auto-compatible version directly from Google Play. HERE warns that a version installed from elsewhere may not appear in the Android Auto launcher. The car interface also has limitations: adding route stops and changing route preferences after navigation has begun may not be available.
During guidance, tap the compass icon in the upper-right corner to switch between the normal view and 2D north-up mode. Download the required country or region before leaving coverage. Offline maps can provide basic routing without mobile data, but live traffic and other online services still need a connection.
4. TomTom GO Navigation: best for paid TomTom routing
TomTom GO Navigation brings TomTom map data, turn-by-turn directions, route planning, and traffic services to Android Auto. It is aimed at drivers willing to pay for a navigation product rather than rely exclusively on free apps.
The exact offline maps, traffic functions, and Android Auto features depend on the current subscription and region, so check the Google Play description and subscription screen before buying. TomTom GO Navigation is separate from TomTom AmiGO; the two products should not be treated as different names for the same app.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
This is a sensible pick if you already prefer TomTom routing or want a paid navigation service with a dedicated map product. It is less attractive if you only need occasional directions and do not want recurring costs.

5. Sygic GPS Navigation: best for offline 3D navigation
Sygic is built around offline maps and more visual driving guidance. Depending on the license, it offers 3D navigation, speed-limit information, lane assistance, signposts, points of interest, traffic, alternative routes, mobile speed-camera information, fuel prices, and low-emission-zone data.
Its licensing needs particular attention. Sygic’s version 25.7 restored basic Android Auto access for Premium Lifetime customers, but Premium Lifetime without Premium+ provides only 2D navigation and current speed. The advanced car-screen features generally require Premium+ or the relevant Android Auto/CarPlay add-on. New customers can no longer generally buy Premium Lifetime and will usually see subscription or add-on options instead.
Sygic recommends opening the phone app and preparing the route before connecting to Android Auto. If speed or GPS movement is wrong, use Menu → Settings → Advanced settings → GPS location provider → Custom, then reconnect to Android Auto.

6. OsmAnd: best for detailed offline mapping
OsmAnd uses OpenStreetMap data and is useful when you need detailed map information, offline routing, and more control than a mainstream navigation app normally provides. Android Auto is available in the Google Play version, but OsmAnd treats it as a paid feature requiring a paid version or subscription.
The car interface is deliberately simplified rather than being a full copy of the phone app. Its controls include OsmAnd menu, Settings, Search, My Location, Zoom, and Compass.
Before connecting, set the preferred driving profile through OsmAnd Menu → Settings → App profiles → Edit profile list. Move the preferred Driving profile to the first position, after the Browse map profile if that profile is present. While Android Auto is connected, the phone map is locked and navigation is controlled from the vehicle display.
7. Organic Maps: best free privacy-focused option
Organic Maps is a good fit for drivers who want offline maps without advertising or tracking. It offers offline place search, turn-by-turn car navigation, voice guidance, OpenStreetMap data, and Android Auto support.

An October 2025 release added speed-limit display in Android Auto and fixed issues involving navigation-mode switching, route-arrow positioning, device connections, and Android Auto location services. A January 2026 update fixed an Android Auto crash and missing text-to-speech announcements.
Organic Maps is distributed through Google Play and alternative stores. When Android Auto compatibility is important, test the Google Play build first because alternative distribution versions may behave differently with car integration.
8. MapFactor Navigator: best for offline and vehicle-specific routes
MapFactor Navigator combines offline OpenStreetMap maps with voice guidance, speed-limit alerts, lane assistance, route avoidance, and monthly free map updates. It also provides profiles for cars, trucks, buses, motorhomes, bicycles, and motorcycles, and its current Google Play listing advertises Android Auto integration.
Do not assume that selecting a truck or motorhome profile automatically makes the app a professional heavy-vehicle navigator. Truck, bus, and motorhome routing requires the appropriate TomTom Truck maps or paid functionality. For ordinary car drivers, its locally stored maps can provide basic routing after download without mobile data.

Coverage is the deciding factor. Navitel lists maps for 66 countries, but that does not make it a complete North American replacement by default. Check that the required United States or Canadian map is available for your account and edition before relying on it for a long trip.
Android Auto access and map purchases may also cost extra depending on the product and region. Confirm the total price in Google Play rather than assuming the phone app’s basic download includes every car-screen feature.

Dynavix provides offline voice navigation, OpenStreetMap-based maps, alternative routes, waypoints, lane assistance, highway labels, route avoidance, and speed-check notifications. Its current Google Play listing advertises Android Auto connectivity and free offline navigation with in-app purchases for additional functions.
Recommended Free Tools
Its camera information is region-sensitive. Dynavix says its online traffic-camera coverage is focused on Europe, citing more than 7,500 cameras in the listing. That should not be interpreted as equivalent camera coverage across the United States or other regions.
Dynavix is worth considering for European drivers who want offline navigation and camera information in one app. Check local coverage and paid features before making it your only navigation tool.
How to use a navigation app with Android Auto
- Prepare while parked. Turn on the infotainment system, leave the vehicle in Park, and complete Android Auto setup before driving.
- Connect by cable or wirelessly. For wired Android Auto, use a compatible USB port and a data-capable cable. For wireless Android Auto, pair the phone and car over Bluetooth and keep Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Location Services enabled.
- Open the app on the car screen. Select
App launcher, then choose the navigation app you installed. - Set the destination before moving. Android Auto may block the on-screen keyboard while the vehicle is moving. Use Google Assistant or another supported voice function instead of trying to type while driving.
- Download maps in advance. For HERE WeGo, Sygic, OsmAnd, Organic Maps, MapFactor, Navitel, or Dynavix, download the needed areas and test a route before entering a no-signal zone.
If the app is missing from the launcher
First confirm that the developer explicitly supports Android Auto and that the app is available in your country and edition. Install the Google Play version where the developer requires it. On some Samsung phones, unused apps may be disabled temporarily; open the app once or turn off Auto-disable unused apps or Put unused apps to sleep in the phone’s battery settings.
Do not routinely enable Android Auto developer mode or “Unknown sources” because an old forum guide suggests it. Official navigation apps should not require that workaround, and installing unverified software can create security and compatibility problems.
Which Android Auto navigation app should you choose?

| 3D lane and sign guidance | Sygic | Strong feature set, but check Premium+ licensing |
| Truck or motorhome profiles | MapFactor | Vehicle profiles, subject to the correct paid maps |
| TomTom routing | TomTom GO Navigation | Dedicated paid TomTom product |
FAQ
Does Android Auto require a separate app on my phone?
On current compatible Android versions, Android Auto is integrated into the phone and normally does not need to be installed as a separate phone app. The vehicle, phone, connection method, region, and app version must still support Android Auto.
Can I use Android Auto navigation without mobile data?
Yes, if the navigation app has downloaded maps and supports offline routing. HERE WeGo, Sygic, OsmAnd, Organic Maps, MapFactor, Navitel, and Dynavix offer offline capabilities. Live traffic, updated incident reports, fuel prices, and similar online services generally require an internet connection.
Why does a navigation app not appear in Android Auto?
Check that the app explicitly supports Android Auto, was installed from Google Play when required, is available in your country and edition, and is not disabled by the phone’s unused-app or battery settings. Opening the app once can restore it on some Samsung phones.
Is Sygic free to use on Android Auto?
Do not assume it is fully free. Sygic’s current licensing separates basic access from advanced features: Premium Lifetime customers without Premium+ may receive only 2D navigation and current speed, while 3D guidance, voice instructions, traffic, lane assistance, and other features generally require Premium+ or an eligible add-on.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe Bottom Line
Start with Google Maps unless you have a specific reason to use something else. Choose Waze for active community reports, HERE WeGo or Organic Maps for straightforward offline travel, OsmAnd for detailed mapping, MapFactor for vehicle-specific routing, and Sygic or TomTom GO Navigation when their paid features match your needs. Before a long journey, install the app from the correct store, download maps if necessary, set up the route while parked, and confirm that the car display supports the features you intend to use.
