There is no verified, apples-to-apples ranking of the 10 most reliable AWD luxury SUVs in 2025. J.D. Power’s related 10-SUV guide combines quality, dependability and vehicle appeal; it is not a reliability top 10, and it does not confirm AWD on every configuration. Reliability evidence is also mixed by model and study: Consumer Reports rates the 2025 Lexus RX much more reliable than same-year vehicles, the GX less reliable, and the Acura MDX about average. Here is what the available data supports—and how to use it without mistaking a broad shortlist for a proven AWD ranking.
Why there is no verified 2025 AWD reliability top 10
J.D. Power’s September 4, 2025 guide to 10 luxury SUVs names the BMW X4, BMW X6, BMW X7, Cadillac XT5, Genesis GV80, Land Rover Defender, Land Rover Range Rover, Land Rover Range Rover Sport, Lexus RX and Porsche Cayenne. Its selection rule is a top-three finish in at least two of three studies covering initial quality, long-term dependability and vehicle appeal. That makes it a cross-study shortlist, not an ordered list of the 10 most reliable SUVs.
The guide also does not establish that every listed model or trim has AWD. For example, it says the 2025 BMW X7 has standard xDrive AWD, while the Cadillac XT5 is front-wheel drive standard with AWD available. A buyer comparing AWD vehicles must verify the drivetrain for the specific model year and trim.
There is no common published reliability score for those 10 vehicles that would support ranking them against one another. Treat the names as a starting point for research, not a reliability verdict.

What the 2025 J.D. Power dependability study measures
J.D. Power’s 2025 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study surveys original owners of 2022-model-year vehicles after three years of ownership. Fielded from August through November 2024, it drew responses from 34,175 owners and covered 184 problem areas across nine categories. Its industry average was 202 problems per 100 vehicles (PP100), 6% higher than in 2024; lower PP100 scores indicate fewer reported problems.
That is useful evidence about vehicles from the 2022 model year after three years on the road. It is not a direct reliability test of 2025-model-year SUVs, nor does the industry average provide a comparable score for each SUV in the 10-model guide.

The study identifies the Lexus GX as a model-level award recipient; its SUV summary also surfaces the Lexus GX, Lexus RX and BMW X5 as segment leaders. Those findings come from the study’s older cohort and should not be combined with ratings for new 2025 models into one ranking. J.D. Power’s director of auto benchmarking, Jason Norton, said the increase in reported problems came as the industry was contending with major disruptions when those three-year-old vehicles were built.
What 2025 model-year ratings say about specific SUVs
Consumer Reports’ 2025 model pages offer a different view: its predicted reliability ratings use member reports of vehicle problems to forecast how a new model may hold up. For vehicles that have not been redesigned or significantly updated, the method uses the last three years of data. These ratings are not the same as J.D. Power’s three-year-old-vehicle dependability survey.

Consumer Reports’ broader overview identifies the Lexus TX as a leader in the luxury midsized three-row SUV category and the Lexus RZ as a leader among luxury electric SUVs. Those are category results, not a 10-model AWD reliability list. Its 2025 SUV ratings material describes how predicted reliability forecasts a new model’s performance.
How to use the 10-model guide when shopping for AWD
- Confirm the drivetrain on the exact vehicle. Check the manufacturer’s specification for the model year, trim and powertrain you are considering; AWD may be standard on one vehicle and optional on another. Do not assume a model name alone guarantees AWD.
- Match the reliability evidence to the vehicle’s age. A rating based on 2022 vehicles after three years describes that cohort; a predicted rating for a 2025 model is a forecast informed by member reports. They answer related but different questions.
- Keep ratings in their own systems. Do not treat a top-three result in multiple J.D. Power studies as a dependability rank, or splice it together with Consumer Reports’ relative model-year rating.
- Compare the configuration you would actually buy. Once AWD eligibility is established, compare the vehicle’s size and seating, gas or electrified powertrain, and the comfort, performance and utility that matter to you. Those factors help identify a suitable SUV but do not substitute for reliability evidence.
Which SUV looks most promising on the available evidence?
Among the examples with 2025 model-level Consumer Reports assessments, the RX has the strongest stated reliability description: much more reliable than same-year cars. That is not enough to declare it the most reliable AWD luxury SUV overall—the available evidence does not provide a uniform score across the 10 candidates, and the exact AWD configuration still needs confirmation.

The GX illustrates why sources should not be blended casually: J.D. Power’s three-year-old cohort recognizes it, while Consumer Reports’ 2025 assessment says it is less reliable than same-year cars. The studies cover different model-year evidence and use different methods, so neither finding cancels the other out.
