Affordable luxury depends on what you mean by “affordable.” This guide uses MotorTrend’s 10-car list of 2025 models priced at $45,000 or less as its main lineup, then checks several of those cars against 2026 starting prices. These are published starting prices—not guaranteed local transaction prices—and the 2025 list is not a current inventory guide. If your budget is below $30,000, the used-car section offers a separate starting point.
What counts as a cheap luxury car?
There is no single cutoff. One source’s 2026 ranking covers vehicles starting below $47,000, while another focuses on luxury sedans and hatchbacks under $50,000; used listings can fall much lower. Those are different comparisons, not competing definitions of the same market. The ten-car list below is specifically a 2025 new-car comparison with a $45,000 ceiling, using MotorTrend’s stated starting prices. MotorTrend’s 2025 list is useful for comparing the models, but it does not establish what a dealer will charge or which configurations are available near you.
For a 2026 cross-check, Car and Driver says its least-expensive luxury-car rankings are based on manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) and roughly 200 data points spanning acceleration, handling, comfort, cargo space, fuel efficiency, value, and driving enjoyment. Its list is focused on sedans and hatchbacks. Road & Track’s 2026 ranking includes sedans, hatchbacks, coupes, and SUVs, so it answers a broader body-style question. Car and Driver’s methodology and 2026 list and Road & Track’s 2026 ranking provide those separate comparisons.
10 luxury-branded cars on MotorTrend’s 2025 list
The prices below are the starting prices MotorTrend published for the 2025 model year, not current quotes. The list mixes compact cars, a coupe, a larger sedan, and an electric car, so the lowest price is not automatically the best fit for comfort, space, or driving priorities.

| Genesis G70 | $43,850 | A compact luxury sedan; a separate 2026 review describes its cabin as upscale-feeling and its suspension as balancing responsiveness with cushion over bumps. |

All prices and model-specific notes in this table are from MotorTrend’s June 16, 2025 feature. The Genesis suspension and cabin description is Road & Track’s editorial assessment of the 2026 entry, not a controlled comfort measurement.
How some 2025 picks compare at 2026 starting prices
For shoppers pricing new cars now, the 2025 figures above should not be treated as current. Car and Driver’s 2026 list reports the following starting MSRPs for several overlapping models. Its broader price ranges can extend above $50,000 at upper trims, so a base price does not describe every version.

These figures come from different model years and publications, so they are a reference point, not a like-for-like quote for a specific trim or a prediction of price movement. In Car and Driver’s 2026 descriptions, the Integra is practical but not as luxurious as some rivals; the CT4 delivers Cadillac’s premium ethos with mixed results; the CLA offers Mercedes styling in a smaller footprint at a lower base price; and the Lexus IS is aging while remaining enjoyable to drive. Those are that publication’s model-year-specific judgments, not universal ownership findings. See Car and Driver’s 2026 ranking and model descriptions.
Which of these cars makes sense for your priorities?
For cargo flexibility: Acura Integra
The Integra’s hatchback layout offers more practical cargo access than a conventional sedan. It is a natural place to start if daily utility matters as much as the luxury badge. The trade-off noted by Car and Driver for the 2026 model is that it does not feel as luxurious as some rivals.

For a larger, quieter-feeling sedan: Lexus ES
MotorTrend’s 2025 comparison distinguishes the ES 350 from its smaller entries: it is substantially larger and is praised for a quiet cabin, comfortable ride, and high-class materials. Consider it when rear-seat and ride comfort matter more than choosing the smallest, cheapest entry. The available ES 300h hybrid is another configuration to compare if efficiency is a priority; the source describes it as more efficient but does not give a specific fuel-economy figure in this list.
For handling: Cadillac CT4
MotorTrend highlights the CT4’s handling and chassis dynamics, but also calls it a borderline value proposition below $40,000. It may appeal to a driver who values how a car responds on the road more than maximizing cabin space or getting the lowest entry price.

For understated design and safety equipment: Volvo S60
MotorTrend calls out the S60’s understated styling and safety equipment. The list does not quantify safety performance or specify equipment by trim, so check the exact model-year configuration rather than assuming every feature is standard.
For electric driving: Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD
The Model 3 is the only electric vehicle in the ten-car list. Its 211-mile result is specific to MotorTrend’s 70-mph highway test of the entry-level single-motor Long Range version; it should not be substituted for an EPA rating or treated as a range promise for every route, speed, or condition.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is a used luxury car a better budget choice?
A used car can reduce the purchase price substantially, but the price alone does not tell you whether it is a bargain. Car and Driver’s used-car comparison identifies listings under $30,000 with fewer than 40,000 miles, then ranks candidates using roughly 200 measures that include comfort and value. Its page lists the 2024 BMW 3 Series from $20,900 and the 2024 Genesis G70 from $18,588. These are listing-sample starting prices, which can change quickly; earlier model years have lower starting examples on the page. Car and Driver’s under-$30,000 used luxury-car list.
Quick Recap
- Compare the actual vehicle’s age, mileage, service history, and condition rather than relying on a model-level starting listing.
- Check the exact equipment and configuration; two cars with the same model name can differ materially.
- Inspect the car and review its records before purchase. A low listing price does not establish the condition or future costs of a particular vehicle.
How to choose without overpaying for the badge
- Set the budget and model year. Decide whether your ceiling applies to a new 2025/2026 model or to a used listing. Do not mix a model-year MSRP with a used-market asking price.
- Choose the body style around your daily needs. Compare hatchback cargo access, sedan rear-seat space, coupe practicality, and—if broadening beyond this ten-car list—SUV options.
- Compare cabin and ride priorities. Look for the qualities that matter to you: a quiet ride, comfortable seats, upscale materials, or responsive handling. Published reviews offer informed assessments, but a test drive is the best way to judge your own comfort.
- Check the exact trim and local price. Starting prices may not match the configuration you want or the price available in your area. Confirm current MSRP, equipment, and dealer pricing for the model year you are considering.
- For a used car, judge the individual vehicle. Weigh condition, mileage, age, and records alongside the listing price before treating a low-priced luxury car as a value.
