The Xiaomi YU7 is a direct challenger to the Tesla Model Y in China: its newer Standard trim undercuts the entry Model Y in a May 2026 comparison while claiming more CLTC range. That makes the pair meaningful competitors, but the available sales figures do not establish that the YU7 currently outsells the Model Y.
Why the Xiaomi YU7 competes with the Model Y
Xiaomi introduced the YU7 as its first SUV in May 2025 and began sales on June 26, 2025. It is a five-seat, mid-to-large SUV, positioned in the same broad China-market segment as the Model Y. The clearest evidence of direct competition is not a sales-leadership claim: it is the YU7’s price and specification overlap with Tesla’s entry SUV.
The comparison below uses figures reported in May 2026 for China-market entry trims. Prices and specifications can change with model updates and incentives, and should not be assumed to apply outside China.
How much does the Xiaomi YU7 cost compared with the Model Y?
In a May 2026 comparison by CnEVPost, the YU7 Standard was listed at RMB 233,500, against RMB 263,500 for the entry Model Y in China. The reported difference is RMB 30,000, with the YU7 Standard priced lower. These are dated starting prices, not quotes for every configuration or a guarantee of current transaction prices.

|---|---|---|---|

| Tesla Model Y entry version | RMB 263,500 | 62.5 kWh | 593 km |
All comparison values in the table are from the same May 2026 CnEVPost report. CLTC figures are certified-cycle range claims, not results from a matched real-world driving test; actual distance depends on conditions and use. The report is a secondary source for Tesla’s entry-trim price and specifications.
What is the YU7’s CLTC range?
Xiaomi states a CLTC range of 643 km for the YU7 Standard launched on May 21, 2026. The May 2026 comparison lists 593 km CLTC for the entry Model Y, a 50 km difference on the stated cycle. Those numbers help explain the YU7’s competitive pitch, but they do not show how far either vehicle travels in identical real-world conditions.

The YU7 Standard’s claimed 10–80% charging time is 20 minutes, according to the same CnEVPost report. That is Xiaomi’s stated figure; it is not an independent charging test, and the report does not establish directly comparable charging conditions for both vehicles.
How do the YU7 and Model Y compare in size?
Xiaomi’s stated YU7 dimensions are 4,999 × 1,996 × 1,600 mm, with a 3,000 mm wheelbase. Launch-period reporting in 2025 listed the China-market Model Y at 4,797 × 1,920 × 1,624 mm and a 2,890 mm wheelbase. On those dated figures, the YU7 is longer and wider, while the Model Y is taller; the YU7 also has the longer wheelbase.

The Model Y measurements come from launch-period reporting, not a verified current model-year specification. They should not be treated as a definitive comparison for every current Model Y version.

The available figures show substantial YU7 demand, but they do not answer that question with a date-matched comparison. Xiaomi reported cumulative YU7 deliveries of 232,000 through April 30, 2026, citing the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA). Xiaomi’s Q2 2026 investor presentation reports 104,199 company EV deliveries in that quarter and 185,055 in the first half of 2026; those totals include the SU7 and YU7 series and are not YU7-only counts.

A sales-race claim needs the same measure for both vehicles—such as registrations, retail sales, wholesale shipments or deliveries—over the same period and geography. The figures above do not provide that matched comparison, so they support describing the YU7 as a serious challenger, not claiming it currently outsells the Model Y.
What changed from the YU7’s 2025 launch?
The Standard’s May 2026 price and range are a later, lower-priced offer than the original launch lineup reported in 2025. CnEVPost listed launch-era Standard, Pro and Max prices of RMB 253,500, RMB 279,900 and RMB 329,900, with respective CLTC ranges of 835 km, 770 km and 760 km. These historic figures predate the cheaper 2026 Standard and subsequent naming changes; they are not a current lineup or a like-for-like trim comparison.
