At its March 28, 2024 launch in China, Xiaomi priced the SU7 Standard at 215,900 yuan. CEO Lei Jun said that entry price was 30,000 yuan less than the Tesla Model 3’s price in China at the time. This is a historical, market-specific launch comparison—not a statement about current prices or availability.
What Xiaomi announced at launch
The SU7 launched in three trims. The Standard’s 215,900-yuan price was the basis of Lei Jun’s comparison with the Model 3; the statement does not establish that every SU7 trim was cheaper than every Model 3 version.

CarNewsChina reported that the Pro’s launch price matched the Model 3 price cited in its account. The clearest like-for-like figure in Lei Jun’s remark is therefore the entry SU7 price and the China-market Model 3 at launch.
What the 30,000-yuan comparison does—and does not—mean
Reuters reported Lei Jun saying, “It’s 30,000 (yuan) cheaper than the Model 3.” The claim refers to the SU7 Standard’s China launch price on March 28, 2024. It should not be read as a current price comparison, a comparison in another country, or proof that the SU7 is categorically a better car.

Prices, trims and availability can change over time and differ by market. The launch reports establish the prices announced in China on that date; they do not establish current prices or availability for either vehicle.
What Xiaomi said about the SU7 Max
Xiaomi’s FY2023 results presentation, published in March 2024 before the launch, described the SU7 as its first EV and the series as a full-size, high-performance sedan. For the SU7 Max, Xiaomi listed these specifications:

These are Xiaomi-published figures, not results from an independent, standardized head-to-head test. They should not be treated as directly comparable with another vehicle’s claimed range or performance without matching the test cycle, conditions and trim.

The Associated Press described China’s EV market as crowded and competitive at the time. Xiaomi also presented vehicle connectivity as part of its “Human x Car x Home” ecosystem, linking the car with Xiaomi phones and home appliances. That was launch-era positioning, not independent evidence of vehicle quality or a guarantee of present-day capabilities.
