In a cited U.S. comparison of 2026 hybrid trims, the ES 350h Premium starts $13,800 above the Camry Hybrid XSE. The Camry remains the stronger value for buyers who prioritize purchase price, fuel economy and cargo room.
What does the extra money buy?
The ES is not simply a Camry with a different badge. It has its own cabin design, equipment mix and powertrain choices, and it is positioned as a luxury sedan. The clearest case for paying more is the comfort and convenience equipment included on the specific ES trim you are considering.
In Cars.com’s October 1, 2026 comparison, the 2026 ES 350h Premium includes heated and ventilated front seats, driver-seat memory, a power moonroof, 10-speaker premium audio, a power trunk and a 14-inch infotainment touchscreen. The 2026 Camry Hybrid XSE includes heated seats and a 12.3-inch display; ventilation is optional, as are a panoramic roof and JBL audio through a package. These are trim-specific examples, not equipment lists for every ES or Camry. Cars.com’s comparison is a useful starting point, but check the current window stickers for the exact cars you would buy.
There is a difference in cabin approach, too. Cars.com’s reviewer describes the ES materials and controls as more premium, while noting that its minimalist interior puts many controls on the touchscreen. The Camry retains a more conventional dashboard with more physical controls. That is a subjective impression rather than a measured difference, so sit in both before deciding which layout suits you.

How big is the price and efficiency gap?
Cars.com reported these starting prices, including destination, for its named 2026 hybrid trims on October 1, 2026. They are published starting prices, not dealer transaction prices, and should not be treated as a universal comparison across all trims.

Both compared hybrids use a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid system, a single electric motor, a continuously variable transmission and front-wheel drive. In this comparison, the ES has 19 more horsepower, but the Camry has a one-mpg advantage in combined EPA-estimated fuel economy and 1.8 cubic feet more manufacturer-estimated cargo capacity. The EPA figures are estimates, not road-test results. Warranty terms can vary by model year and state; confirm them in the current manufacturer warranty booklet before buying. Cars.com’s article also discusses a newer ES generation and labels its rear-legroom figure as a 2027 model, so that figure is not included here as a 2026 comparison.

The $13,800 starting-price difference is substantial. A buyer should compare the actual sale price and equipment on the two cars in front of them: a well-equipped Camry may narrow some feature gaps, while dealer pricing and local inventory can change the final numbers.
Which one makes more sense for your priorities?
Choose the ES if the upgrades matter in daily use
- You want more comfort features included on the trim you are shopping, rather than adding options to a mainstream sedan.
- You prefer the ES’s more minimalist, luxury-oriented cabin and are comfortable using its touchscreen for more controls.
- You value the additional horsepower and the longer basic and hybrid-component warranty terms reported for these specific trims.
- You consider the Lexus luxury experience itself worth part of the price premium.
Choose the Camry if value and practicality come first
- You want to spend less upfront and would rather keep the price difference.
- You prioritize the slightly higher combined EPA-estimated fuel economy in this trim comparison.
- You need the larger manufacturer-estimated trunk capacity.
- You prefer a more conventional dashboard and physical controls, or the Camry’s available equipment already meets your needs.
Neither list settles reliability, repair costs, insurance premiums, resale value or total cost of ownership. The available comparison does not establish those outcomes, so do not assume that the ES’s higher sticker price will be offset—or magnified—by later ownership costs.

Account for the ES’s new electric options
The 2026 ES is part of a product transition. Lexus introduced the eighth-generation ES in April 2025 with hybrid and battery-electric versions and front- or all-wheel-drive choices, describing quietness, refinement and ride comfort as design goals. Those are manufacturer-stated aims, not independent head-to-head test results. Lexus’s announcement outlines the generation’s broader direction.
In a U.S. update dated March 18, 2026, Lexus said its front-wheel-drive ES 350e and all-wheel-drive ES 500e battery-electric models were arriving ahead of the ES 350h hybrid. Lexus listed a 74.7-kWh battery for both electric models, an EPA-estimated 307-mile total driving range for the ES 350e, and a $47,500 base MSRP for that model. The release said the ES 350e was expected in dealerships in April and described the ES 350h as upcoming; that dated announcement does not establish current availability in your area. Check local inventory and the current listing before making a decision. Lexus’s U.S. launch update provides those figures.

If you are shopping for a hybrid, compare the Camry Hybrid with the ES 350h and verify that the ES is available locally. If you are open to a fully electric sedan, assess the ES 350e or ES 500e separately, including charging access and the range that fits your driving. The Camry is not a like-for-like electric-car alternative.

How to decide before you buy
- Compare current window stickers. Match model year and trim, then check the actual price, destination charge, seats, audio, roof, memory, trunk and display equipment. Toyota notes that its published specifications apply to mainland U.S. vehicles, may vary by region and can change without notice; see its Camry specifications.
- Drive both cars on the same kind of route. Pay attention to seat comfort, cabin noise, ride, visibility and whether you prefer the ES touchscreen-focused controls or the Camry’s more physical controls.
- Check the space you will use. Compare the trunk with your usual luggage or gear, and have regular rear-seat passengers sit in both cars. Confirm figures and model years against the current manufacturer information; the available ES rear-legroom comparison refers to a 2027 model.
- Verify the ownership terms. Review the applicable warranty booklet and ask insurers and service providers for quotes. The figures above do not establish your insurance or maintenance costs.
- Price the exact powertrain and car. For an ES EV, factor in charging suitability and current local availability; for hybrids, compare the specific trims and transaction prices rather than relying on the badge or a starting-price gap alone.
