The Honda S2000 is appreciating because it combines a distinctive, increasingly collectible driving experience with a finite supply and a growing enthusiast audience. Hagerty’s July 2026 U.S. guide data show moderate gains for representative 2000 and 2005 cars—not a uniform surge, and not proof that values will keep rising.
What recent S2000 valuation data show
Hagerty’s July 2026 U.S. valuation guides put a 2000 S2000 in #3 Good condition at $23,033–$32,067, with a 3.1% change over one year and 10.5% over three years. For a 2005 car in the same condition category, the range is $26,633–$38,100, with a 4.9% one-year change and 8.1% over three years. These are guide estimates, not guaranteed sale prices.

The guide ranges are for the stated model years and condition category; the sales totals and averages cover the broader year groupings shown by Hagerty. A 2000’s three-year change was larger than the 2005’s, while the 2005’s one-year change was larger. Why buyers are drawn to the S2000
A distinctive analogue roadster
The S2000 pairs a naturally aspirated, high-revving four-cylinder with a six-speed manual, rear-wheel drive and a roadster body. That combination gives it a clear identity for enthusiasts looking for an involving sports car rather than a general-purpose convertible. The driving character is part of the appeal, but it does not mean every example is equally desirable or valuable.

A new cohort of interested enthusiasts
Hagerty UK reported in 2024 that 59% of its S2000 policyholders were 49 or younger, including 17% under 30. It also said the number of S2000 policies it added globally during 2023 was 17% higher than in 2022, at a growth rate five times that of all vehicles. Those figures describe Hagerty policyholders and policies—not every owner, total sales or the entire market—but they are evidence of interest among younger enthusiasts within that group. Finite production, including a scarce CR
U.S. S2000 production ended in 2009, after 66,549 sales, according to Hagerty’s 2025 report. The track-focused S2000 CR was rarer still: Honda planned 2,000, but 668 were sold in 2008 and 31 in 2009. Limited supply is meaningful collector context, but production totals alone do not explain a car’s price; buyer demand, condition and the specific example matter too. AP1, AP2 and CR: not all S2000s appeal for the same reasons
AP1: the early, higher-revving character
Hagerty describes the AP1 as the higher-revving, cleaner-styled choice for some enthusiasts. Buyers who prize that early character may value it differently from someone seeking the later car’s revisions; neither preference makes one generation universally superior.
AP2: more torque and chassis revisions in the U.S.
For U.S. cars, the later AP2 received a 2.2-liter engine, more torque and chassis revisions intended to make handling more forgiving. Hagerty’s 2025 report gives the U.S. engine’s redline as dropping from 8,900 to 8,000 rpm, while torque rose from 153 to 162 lb-ft; it reports peak power remaining about 237 bhp. These specifications should not be generalized to every market: Hagerty UK notes that UK AP2 cars retained the F20C, while U.S. and Japanese AP2 models received the larger engine.

CR: a distinct, track-focused variant
The U.S. Club Racer replaced the power soft top with a hardtop and added chassis and aerodynamic changes for a more track-focused package. Its low sales relative to Honda’s target make it a distinct comparison, not a sensible stand-in for an ordinary S2000 roadster when judging typical prices.
What can make one S2000 worth more than another
A broad market trend cannot price an individual car. Compare like with like, and consider the features that distinguish the actual example:

- Year and generation: Compare the same model year or generation rather than treating AP1 and AP2 values as interchangeable.
- Condition and mileage: A guide’s condition category is not a substitute for inspecting the car. Mileage and evidence of wear can materially affect an individual valuation.
- Originality and modifications: Extensive modifications can narrow the pool of buyers. Hagerty advises avoiding abused, neglected or extensively modified examples.
- Service history and provenance: Documentation, ownership history and exceptional provenance or specification can affect the result.
- Variant: A CR, an unusually original car or a very low-mileage example should not be blended casually into expectations for a regular-use roadster.
Hagerty’s guides distinguish condition and note that exceptional provenance or specification can change a value. A headline auction result therefore says little about what a different car should cost unless the cars are genuinely comparable.

The July 2026 figures support a measured claim: the cited U.S. model-year examples have risen over the periods shown. They do not establish that every S2000 has appreciated by the same amount, that another year or country has followed the same path, or that future values will continue upward. Values also depend on the individual car and the market in which it is sold.

Hagerty UK says its valuation guide is updated quarterly; its values are estimates rather than guaranteed transaction prices. Its UK guide and U.S. model-year guides refer to different markets, so figures should not be compared as if they were one universal price series. What to check before buying
Collectibility does not make condition risks disappear. Hagerty UK warns that S2000s may have seen hard use and are becoming susceptible to corrosion. Have a prospective car inspected carefully, including for corrosion, accident damage, signs of track use, poor repairs and neglected maintenance. Treat the car’s documentation and condition as more useful buying evidence than an assumption that all S2000s are reliable, inexpensive to maintain or certain to appreciate.
