Porsche’s reported talks with Chinese dealers in May 2024 focused on adapting business strategy and customer service to changing market conditions. The company disclosed no specific new policy or outcome. Since then, Porsche has reported a steep decline in China deliveries and adjusted its product strategy as electric-vehicle growth slowed.
What were Porsche and its Chinese dealers discussing?
On May 28, 2024, The Business Times, carrying a Bloomberg report, said Porsche was discussing how to adapt business strategies and customer service to market changes, and that the company wanted to work more closely with its retailers. Porsche did not disclose a concrete new direction or specific measures.
The same account attributed reports that dealers objected to sales targets or sought compensation to Chinese media. Those claims were not presented as detailed findings or confirmed policy changes from Porsche. The available public account does not establish that targets were changed, compensation was agreed, or the discussions produced a particular result.
How much have Porsche deliveries in China fallen?
In its fiscal 2025 report, Porsche said customer deliveries in China, including Hong Kong, were 41,938, a 26.3% year-on-year decline. Porsche attributed the pressure to difficult conditions in the Chinese luxury segment and intense competition, particularly for all-electric models. These are the company’s stated explanations; the figures do not by themselves establish how much any one factor contributed.

Porsche delivered 279,449 vehicles worldwide in 2025, down 10.1%. The China figure is a regional customer-delivery count, while the global figure is also reported as deliveries; neither should be casually relabeled as “unit sales.”
What do Porsche’s EV figures show?
Porsche’s reported model totals are global, not China-specific. In fiscal 2025 it delivered 16,339 Taycans, down 21.6%, and 45,367 electric Macans within 84,328 total Macan deliveries. These figures show different results across the two model lines, but they do not reveal how many of those vehicles were delivered in China.

In September 2025, Porsche said slower growth in EV demand had prompted changes to its product plans, including later timing for certain all-electric models and a redesign of a planned EV platform for the 2030s. The company described a portfolio intended to include combustion, plug-in hybrid and battery-electric vehicles. Executive Oliver Blume said Porsche wanted to meet customer requirements “with a convincing mix of combustion engines, plug-in hybrids and battery-electric vehicles.”

In its first-half 2026 results, Porsche reported 122,306 worldwide deliveries, compared with 146,391 in the first half of 2025. Battery-electric vehicles made up 19.4% of its global deliveries, versus 23.5% in the year-earlier period. These are worldwide figures, not China-specific results, and they do not show whether the 2024 dealer discussions changed local sales practices.

CEO Michael Leiters said, “However, we still have a lot of work ahead of us to position Porsche robustly for the challenging future.” The company’s latest figures add context to the pressures behind its strategy changes, but do not establish a direct connection between those changes, the 2024 dealer talks and later delivery movements.
