Honda is entering a 2027 Passport TrailSport in the 2026 Rebelle Rally, a more than 1,500-mile off-road navigation contest that bars GPS and cellular navigation. The automaker says the SUV will compete in the X-Cross Bone Stock class with its core chassis, suspension, engine and drivetrain unmodified—making the rally a demanding showcase, but not a controlled test or proof of how every owner’s vehicle will perform.
What Honda is entering—and why
American Honda announced on October 5, 2026, that team #208, Good TrailSports, would compete in the 2026 Rebelle Rally in a 2027 Honda Passport TrailSport. Honda describes this as its eighth year participating in the event. The rally was scheduled for October 8–17, beginning outside Las Vegas and ending near California’s Imperial Sand Dunes after more than 1,500 miles, according to American Honda’s announcement.
Honda says the rally gives engineers an opportunity to explore how off-road components perform in demanding conditions. That is the manufacturer’s stated rationale; Honda has not published an independent measurement showing what the entry proves about durability or consumer use. Amy Hein, a senior test engineer in Honda’s battery electric group, said in the announcement, “The Rebelle Rally is the perfect place to put it through the ropes.” She also said, “We are excited to see what our team and new Passport TrailSport can accomplish together.”
Why a rally with no GPS is a different kind of test
The Rebelle is a navigation challenge, not a conventional race focused on speed. Honda says competitors use paper maps, compasses and headings to reach hidden checkpoints, while GPS and cellular navigation are prohibited. The crew must interpret terrain and route information while driving, so results depend on navigation as well as the vehicle and its drivers.

That distinction matters when judging Honda’s entry. A finish or class result would describe performance in this particular event and class; it would not, by itself, rank the Passport against production SUVs in everyday use. Nor does the rally’s GPS restriction mean Honda’s consumer TrailSport app is part of the competition navigation. The event announcement describes paper-map navigation, while Honda’s separate app is an ownership resource.
What “Bone Stock” means for this Passport
Honda says the entry is in the X-Cross Bone Stock class and will run without modifications to its rugged chassis, off-road-tuned suspension, 3.5-liter V6, 10-speed automatic transmission or torque-vectoring i-VTM4 all-wheel-drive system. The vehicle will have a special Rebelle Rally and HART wrap. Honda’s description concerns those core production components; it does not establish that every detail of the rally vehicle is identical to a retail SUV.

The class designation is useful context, not a guarantee that every competitor’s equipment or preparation is identical. It also distinguishes this Passport from Honda’s 2025 Mint 400 entry: that was a different event, and Honda described permitted modifications to the stock-production entry in its Mint 400 coverage. The Rebelle Passport should not be conflated with that vehicle or competition.

Honda’s September 9, 2026 specification release lists the following changes and figures for the 2027 TrailSport. These are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent comparative test results.

The additional clearance and revised suspension are directly relevant to uneven or obstructed terrain, while the approach, departure and breakover angles describe the vehicle’s geometry around obstacles. Those specifications explain what Honda changed; they do not establish how the SUV will place in the rally or how it compares under independent testing. What rally technology does—and does not—carry over to owners
TrailWatch cameras
Honda says TrailSport models now include TrailWatch, a camera system offering front, rear, side and 360-degree views. Those views can help a driver see around the vehicle while maneuvering, but the system is not a substitute for the Rebelle team’s paper-map navigation.

Honda Trail Experience app
Honda says the Honda Trail Experience app offers vehicle data and video features to eligible owners of 2026 and 2027 Passport, Pilot and CR-V TrailSport models. Its consumer features should be kept separate from the rally’s GPS-restricted navigation rules; Honda has not said the app is used for rally navigation. Honda is putting a production-based Passport TrailSport into a long, navigation-intensive event because the format can expose the vehicle and crew to sustained off-road demands while giving engineers an opportunity to observe components in use. The Bone Stock entry and its declared unmodified core systems make that a more relevant showcase of the production platform than a heavily modified race vehicle would be. Still, the event is not a laboratory test, and Honda’s published information does not quantify a resulting consumer benefit or establish the entry’s eventual placement.
