Ferrari drew criticism after a reported pause preceded its reply to Lewis Hamilton’s thank-you over team radio following the 2025 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The exchange prompted some fans to call the response cold, but the available reporting does not establish that Ferrari deliberately ignored Hamilton or explain why the reply took several seconds.
What Hamilton said after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
Hamilton finished eighth in the 2025 season finale. After the race, he told the team over radio: “Long season, guys. Grazie a tutti.” He then thanked the team for its kindness and hard work, adding: “I’ll always fight for you guys. Always. Grazie.” SPORTbible reported the exchange, crediting Sky Sports for the audio.

Why fans criticized Ferrari’s reply
SPORTbible reported that several seconds passed before a Ferrari team member responded: “Yeah, we were talking,” followed by, “Thank you very much, a pleasure working with you.” The outlet quoted fans who viewed the delay and wording as cold, which is the basis for headlines saying Ferrari was “slammed.” That describes a reported online reaction, not a formal finding about Ferrari’s conduct.

The report does not name the person who spoke, and the cited material does not establish why the reply was delayed. It is therefore not possible to identify the speaker as a particular engineer or to conclude that the team intended to slight Hamilton. The exchange is reported by SPORTbible; Formula 1’s official race-day report does not reproduce it, and no official Ferrari explanation for the pause appears in the cited sources.

The race and season behind the message
Hamilton’s recovery in the finale
Hamilton started 16th and finished eighth after moving early to hard tyres and becoming the first driver to try a two-stop strategy, according to Formula 1’s race-day team report. In his written post-race comments, he said, “The two-stop strategy worked well so thank you to the team.” He also described it as a tough season and said Ferrari colleagues’ kindness and hard work meant a lot to him.
Ferrari’s public assessment
Teammate Charles Leclerc finished fourth. Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur said the weekend had not been bad in pure performance terms, but that the team had started Friday poorly and had not recovered all the details it needed. He praised Hamilton’s race and pace, saying he had made strong overtaking moves and shown motivation. Those comments provide the team’s public assessment of the race; they do not explain the radio pause.

Hamilton’s first Ferrari season
AS’s review of the completed 2025 season reports that Hamilton scored 156 points and finished sixth in the drivers’ standings, while Leclerc scored 242 points and finished fifth. Hamilton had no Grand Prix podium that season; his best result was fourth, which he achieved four times, according to AS. The finale message came at the end of a difficult debut season, but season results alone cannot establish the intent behind an individual radio response.
