BMW Group owns Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Ltd, and today’s Rolls-Royce cars are designed and hand-built at the company’s Goodwood facility in West Sussex, England. Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is not the same company as Rolls-Royce plc, the separate aerospace and power systems business.
Who owns Rolls-Royce Motor Cars?
Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of BMW Group. The car company states this directly in its ownership information.
Are Rolls-Royce Motor Cars and Rolls-Royce plc the same company?
No. Rolls-Royce Motor Cars makes the cars and is owned by BMW Group. Rolls-Royce plc is a separate aerospace and power systems company; it does not own the car business. Rolls-Royce Motor Cars clarified the distinction in a PressClub statement: “Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the BMW Group.”
Where are Rolls-Royce cars made?
Current Rolls-Royce cars are designed and built by hand at the Home of Rolls-Royce in Goodwood, West Sussex, England. The company describes Goodwood as the only place where its motor cars are designed and built by hand in its March 2025 craftsmanship press kit.
