Amazon’s custom U.S. electric delivery vans were developed with Rivian, while its wider fleet also includes Mercedes-Benz electric vans in Europe. In June 2026, Amazon reported more than 40,000 Rivian vans in the United States and more than 50,000 electric delivery vans worldwide. Those figures describe different scopes: the global total is not a Rivian-only count.
Who makes Amazon’s electric delivery vans?
Rivian is the partner behind Amazon’s custom electric delivery van in the United States. Amazon says the companies announced their partnership in 2019, along with an order for 100,000 vehicles. Rivian says it co-developed the vans with Amazon drivers and fleet managers. Amazon’s fleet explainer and Rivian’s account of the vehicle development describe the partnership from each company’s perspective.
Amazon also reports a major Mercedes-Benz electric-van deployment in Europe. That regional fleet is separate from Rivian’s U.S. role; the cited figures do not indicate that one supplier replaced the other.
How many electric delivery vans does Amazon have?
Amazon’s June 2026 reporting gives several figures, each with a distinct geography or time frame. They are company-reported totals, not an independently audited fleet count.

| Figure | What it covers | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| More than 40,000 | Custom electric vans in the United States | Amazon, June 2026 |
| More than 50,000 | Electric delivery vans in global operations | Amazon, June 2026 |
| More than 10,000 | Electric delivery vans in Europe at the end of 2025 | Amazon, June 2026 |
| Nearly 5,000 | Mercedes-Benz electric vans across Austria, France, Germany, Italy and the UK | Amazon, June 2026 |
The European deployment figure refers to Mercedes-Benz vehicles, while Amazon’s U.S. total refers to its custom electric vans. Amazon says the Mercedes-Benz vans were manufactured in Germany and Spain. Its June 4, 2026 report on electric delivery vehicles in Europe provides the regional detail.
Amazon also said Rivian vans delivered more than 1 billion packages in the United States in 2024. Separately, it reported that its global electric delivery vans delivered more than 2.4 billion packages in the preceding year with zero-exhaust emissions. These are package-delivery figures, not measures of vehicle count or lifecycle emissions.

What is known about the Rivian van?
Rivian’s July 2022 description lists automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and rear cross-traffic warnings, lane-keeping and blind-spot warnings, adaptive cruise control, plus cameras and sensors. Those are manufacturer-described features from that account, rather than a current trim-by-trim specification sheet. Rivian also reported that preproduction testing since 2021 covered more than 90,000 miles and more than 430,000 packages; these are Rivian’s test totals, not independent test results.
In a September 2026 announcement, Amazon said surround-view cameras were planned for 50% of Rivian electric delivery vehicles across its network by the end of 2026. That is a stated rollout target, not confirmation that the installation was completed. The announcement was published by Beryl Tomay, Amazon’s vice president of transportation, in Amazon’s post on delivery-vehicle safety technology.

How are Amazon’s electric vans charged?
Amazon says it has more than 50,000 chargers at over 250 U.S. delivery stations, as well as tens of thousands of charging points across its facilities globally. The company’s fleet reporting establishes the scale of the charging infrastructure, but does not name charger manufacturers or models. It also does not specify the charging hardware used at each station.
For fleet operators, these figures show that vehicle procurement is only part of an electric delivery operation: depot charging capacity and site planning matter too. Amazon’s reported infrastructure does not establish that a particular retail charger is suitable for a commercial depot or compatible with its vehicles.

- Fully Assembled Operating Vehicle

- Die-Cast Construction with Metal Wheels
- Operates on 16" Diameter Curves or greater

What the figures do—and do not—show
- They show reported deployment and activity. Amazon’s June 2026 figures describe fleet scale and package deliveries; Rivian’s 2022 figures describe preproduction testing.
- “Zero-exhaust” is an operational claim. Amazon uses that term for packages delivered by its electric vans. The cited sources do not provide a lifecycle-emissions comparison against comparable combustion vehicles, including vehicle and battery production or electricity generation.
- They do not establish which supplier is better. The available reporting does not offer a like-for-like comparison of range, uptime, total cost of ownership, vehicle specifications or lifecycle emissions for Rivian and Mercedes-Benz deployments.
