What is F1 Academy?
F1 Academy is a single-seater racing series intended to help talented young female drivers develop and progress through motorsport. Its 2026 rules and regulations describe an 18-car, one-make series across six teams, including a Wild Card entry. The official category overview lists six rounds and 14 races for the 2026 season, with every round supporting a Formula 1 World Championship event.

How the 2026 race weekends work
Most weekends feature a Reverse Grid Race and a Feature Race. Montreal and Austin have an additional Opening Race, making those weekends three-race events. The format announced on 1 April 2026 followed the change to the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix round; the current season overview lists six rounds, rather than the seven in the original December 2025 calendar announcement.
- Feature Race: The fastest qualifying lap sets the starting grid.
- Opening Race: At Montreal and Austin, second-fastest qualifying times set the grid.
- Reverse Grid Race: The top eight qualifiers are reversed on the grid.
- Race length: Races last up to 30 minutes.
F1 Academy says the series is for women aged at least 16 and no older than 25 at their first race event of the season. Drivers must hold an FIA International Circuit Licence of Grade B, C or D. They may compete in two seasons; beginning in 2027, some may receive an exemption for a third season if their performance indicates strong potential for further growth. A champion cannot compete in another season. See the official FAQ and rules for the full eligibility terms.

The original calendar announcement, published 10 December 2025, described seven rounds and 14 races. On 1 April 2026, F1 Academy announced that the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix round would no longer take place in April and introduced an Opening Race at Montreal and Austin. The current official season pages list six rounds and 14 races, so six is the applicable round count for the revised 2026 calendar.
