Toyota-badged models confirmed with the 1UZ-FE V8 are the first- and second-generation Celsior, first- through third-generation Crown Majesta, and third-generation Soarer 4.0 GT grades. The engine was not fitted to every grade in those model lines, and the third-generation Celsior switched to the 3UZ-FE.
Which Toyota models used the 1UZ-FE?
Toyota’s historical model records identify three Japanese-market Toyota nameplates with confirmed 1UZ-FE applications. The engine is a 3,968 cc V8; output figures varied by model and revision.
| Toyota model | Confirmed application | What Toyota records specify |
|---|---|---|
| Celsior | First generation, representative A, B and C grades | 1UZ-FE, 3,968 cc and 260 PS. The first-generation Celsior was released October 9, 1989. Toyota model record |
| Celsior | Second generation, representative A, B and C grades | 1UZ-FE. Toyota lists 265 PS at 5,400 rpm before the 1997 revision; the revision adopted VVT-i and raised listed output to 280 PS. Toyota model record |
| Crown Majesta | First generation, 4.0-liter V8 grade | 1UZ-FE, 3,968 cc and 260 PS. Its 3.0-liter grades used the 2JZ-GE. Released October 28, 1991. Toyota model record |
| Crown Majesta | Second generation, 4.0-liter V8 grades | 1UZ-FE in representative rear-wheel-drive C-type and C-type i-Four specifications; the 3.0-liter grade used the 2JZ-GE. Toyota model record |
| Crown Majesta | Third generation, 4.0-liter V8 grades | Toyota’s representative 4.0-liter grades specify 1UZ-FE; a 3.0-liter grade used another engine. Toyota model record |
| Soarer | Third generation, 4.0 GT and 4.0 GT Limited | Both 4.0-liter grades use the 1UZ-FE, with 3,968 cc and 260 PS. The 2.5 GT Twin Turbo L used the 1JZ-GTE. Released May 7, 1991. Toyota model record |
How to read the generation and grade limits
Celsior: first and second generations only
The first- and second-generation Celsior records confirm the 1UZ-FE in representative grades. Toyota’s third-generation Celsior record specifies the 3UZ-FE instead, so the name “Celsior” by itself is not enough to identify the engine. Third-generation Celsior record
Crown Majesta: check the displacement and grade
The confirmed applications are the 4.0-liter V8 grades in the first three generations. The Majesta’s 3.0-liter versions used other engines. Toyota’s 1991 Crown-series announcement specifically identifies the Majesta’s 4-liter 1UZ-FE at 260 PS/5,400 rpm; that announcement does not establish that every Crown hardtop or sedan grade had the V8. Soarer: the 4.0 GT grades
For the third-generation Soarer, Toyota lists the 1UZ-FE on the 4.0 GT and 4.0 GT Limited. Other Soarer grades could use different engines, including the 2.5 GT Twin Turbo L’s 1JZ-GTE.
Why the Lexus LS 400 and SC 400 are not in this Toyota list
The Celsior is the Japanese-market Toyota counterpart to the Lexus LS 400, while the Soarer is related to the Lexus SC line in export-market naming. Those Lexus names are useful when cross-referencing vehicles, but they are not Toyota model names for a list of Toyota-badged cars. This article keeps the Toyota names distinct.
Do not treat every UZ-family vehicle as a 1UZ-FE application
Toyota’s historical lineage page covers the wider UZ engine family, not just the 1UZ-FE. It includes vehicles and generations using other UZ engines, so it is not a complete 1UZ-FE fitment table. Check the model-specific record and engine code rather than inferring fitment from the family name. Toyota UZ engine-family lineage

- Identify the exact generation and chassis/model code from the vehicle’s identification plate and documents.
- Confirm the grade, market and engine code against a model-specific Toyota record or the vehicle’s reliable service documentation.
- For a manual or part, check that its stated model, year coverage, drivetrain and engine code match the car—not merely that it says “1UZ-FE.”
Toyota’s records establish historical applications and representative specifications; they do not provide one exhaustive global fitment matrix for every trim, market and model-year change. Verify the individual car before making a fitment claim or ordering components.
