There is no evidence-based three-way winner here. The available head-to-head test picks the SEAT Ibiza over the Vauxhall Corsa for space, cabin quality and infotainment; the Corsa is cheaper at entry level and its engine felt more responsive to those testers. Suzuki’s Swift Motion has the lowest advertised starting price and a generous equipment list, but the available sources do not compare it directly with the other two on the road.
For a UK buyer considering a new petrol manual around £20,000, the practical choice is conditional: favour the Ibiza for the stronger tested package, the Corsa for a lower manufacturer list price, or investigate the Swift if its current offer and equipment suit you. These prices are not a like-for-like transaction comparison.
What does “£20k” buy in each car?
The budget is a useful shopping guide, not a strict current list-price ceiling. These figures refer to different price bases and trims, so compare written dealer quotes for the exact car before deciding.

The manufacturer figures do not tell you what every buyer will pay. The Corsa’s £20,590 is a MY26 datasheet price; the Ibiza’s £21,350 is an OTR price from an April 2026 list; Suzuki’s Swift price includes a stated offer saving. Promotions, stock and retailer quotes can change.

For context, Auto Express tested a Corsa 1.2 Turbo YES manual at £20,240 and an Ibiza 1.0 TSI DSG FR at £26,205 as tested. Those are prices for the specific test cars, not directly comparable entry versions: the Ibiza was a higher-specification automatic. [Auto Express Corsa–Ibiza comparison]
Which one is better to drive?
Corsa: the more eager-feeling engine in the available comparison
Auto Express found the tested Corsa’s engine more responsive off the line than the Ibiza’s and described the Vauxhall as good value. Its test Corsa had 99 bhp, a quoted 0–62 mph time of 9.9 seconds and returned 40.8 mpg on test; those figures belong to that particular test car and are not a like-for-like comparison with the current MY26 entry-manual datasheet specification. Ibiza: the tested automatic was less convincing for response
The same comparison’s Ibiza was a 1.0 TSI DSG FR automatic. Testers found its automatic less responsive or hesitant and its engine uninspiring. That judgement applies to the tested setup; it does not establish how the entry-level 95 PS manual compares. SEAT lists the entry manual’s WLTP combined economy at 49.6–55.4 mpg. Swift: the available evidence supports its price and equipment, not a driving verdict
The Suzuki offer information does not establish how the Swift compares with the Corsa or Ibiza for ride, handling, engine response, refinement or noise. A lower advertised price alone is not proof that it is the best-driving car.

Which has more room and a better cabin?
In Auto Express’s direct comparison, the Ibiza had the advantage over the Corsa in passenger space and cabin materials, as well as infotainment. Its boot was 355 litres against 309 litres for the Corsa. The testers cautioned that three adults across the rear seat would be tight in either car. [Auto Express Corsa–Ibiza comparison]

No supplied comparison establishes the Swift’s boot capacity or its passenger-space and cabin-quality position against these two rivals. Check the actual cars in person and test the seats and luggage space you need rather than inferring space from its price or equipment.

Suzuki lists adaptive cruise control, a rear camera and parking sensors, traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring and heated front seats for the Swift Motion. What does the Swift Motion include?
Suzuki’s UK offer page lists the Swift Motion mild hybrid with adaptive cruise control, rear camera and parking sensors, heated front seats, wireless smartphone link, traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring and keyless entry/start. This is a persuasive value proposition on the evidence available: a comparatively low advertised starting price with a substantial list of convenience and driver-assistance features. It does not demonstrate that the Swift is roomier, safer, cheaper to own or better to drive than the other two.

How to choose among the three
- Choose the Ibiza as the starting point if space and cabin appeal matter most. It won the retrieved Corsa–Ibiza test on space, materials and infotainment, with the larger published boot.
- Look closely at the Corsa if you want a lower list price than the entry Ibiza and a lively response. The price and engine-response advantages come from different evidence: a current MY26 manufacturer price and testers’ impressions of their comparison car.
- Shortlist the Swift if its advertised offer and standard equipment are priorities. The available evidence does not support declaring it the overall winner against these rivals.
- Get quotes for the exact trim, gearbox and payment method. Compare the cash on-the-road amount with cash, deposit, monthly payments and total payable shown separately in any finance offer.
- Check your own running-cost inputs. Insurance, servicing, finance and real transaction prices were not compared using matched assumptions, so there is no sound basis here for naming the cheapest car to own.
