1. 2024 BMW M3 Sedan: frameless kidney grille with double louvres
The M3 Sedan makes BMW’s kidney grille an assertive focal point. BMW describes the M grille as frameless and black, with double louvres; the company says the design allows airflow for the high-performance engine. 2. 2024 BMW 5 Series: forward-projecting, Sharknose-inspired kidneys
The 5 Series gives BMW’s twin-kidney motif a forward-projecting profile. BMW says it draws stylistic inspiration from the “Sharknose” of early 5 Series generations and serves as the visual center of the front. 3. BMW XM: horizontal slats in a high-performance signature
The XM interprets BMW’s kidney grille through horizontal slats, which BMW identifies as a cue to the vehicle’s high-performance character. The treatment is less about a conventional mesh texture than a strong graphic across the front. 4. 2024 Lexus RX: a grille that flows into the body
The RX uses Lexus’s spindle-body approach: rather than treating the grille as a separate framed piece, its shape flows into the front-end design. Lexus says the fascia helps direct airflow around the body while cooling the brakes, so the integrated appearance has an aerodynamic and cooling context as well as a visual one. 5. 2024 Lexus GX: integrated grille with off-road-minded positioning
The GX pairs a seamless grille with its spindle-body design and integrated headlamp treatment. Lexus says the grille opening is raised to help avoid potential road impacts, giving the front-end design a stated connection to off-road use. 6. 2024 Lexus LX 600: floating bars, with a different F SPORT face
The standard LX 600 spindle grille uses seven sets of floating bars in a seamless, frame-free structure. The F SPORT Handling trim changes the treatment to an F mesh with a jet-black chrome frame, a substantial visual shift rather than a minor finish change. 7. 2024 Cadillac Escalade: grille design depends on trim
The Escalade does not have one uniform grille across the lineup. Cadillac lists a Sport mesh grille and a distinct Platinum grille with Galvano finish, among trim-specific exterior details. That makes the chosen version essential to the look: the mesh treatment and the Platinum finish create different impressions on the same vehicle. 8. 2024 Cadillac XT4: varied, deep-black grille cells
For the XT4 refresh, Cadillac introduced new grille designs and describes the grille cells as individually varied in shape, size and curvature, finished in deep-black gloss. 9. Maserati Grecale: low, imposing front opening
Maserati calls the Grecale’s front its most distinctive side and describes a low, imposing grille. The basic grille design remains consistent across versions, while the finish changes with trim, so the model’s overall grille identity is stable even when the details differ. 10. Rolls-Royce Ghost: illuminated Pantheon grille, with Black Badge contrast
The Ghost’s illuminated Pantheon Grille is one of the most recognizable treatments in this selection. Rolls-Royce calls it a hallmark of the brand; Black Badge versions use black chrome instead of the standard bright finish. The company says that finish uses a specific chrome electrolyte and is then hand-polished. What these designs have in common—and what they do not
Several brands build their identity around a recognizable grille family: BMW’s kidney shape, Lexus’s spindle design, and Rolls-Royce’s Pantheon form are clear examples. Individual models still reinterpret those signatures through different proportions, materials and integration with the surrounding fascia. Cadillac’s trim-dependent Escalade grilles show why a model name alone may not identify the exact look.
Appearance is not the only consideration. BMW describes airflow for the M3 engine, while Lexus cites airflow and brake cooling for the RX and road-impact protection for the GX opening. Those claims are specific to the manufacturers’ descriptions; they do not establish that one design is more effective than another.
Which grille stands out most is a matter of taste. For a dramatic, prominent shape, the M3 and XM are natural candidates; for a grille that blends into the body, the RX and GX take a different approach. If trim changes the design—as on the LX 600 and Escalade—compare the exact version rather than relying on the model name alone.
