Honda cars are made in multiple countries, not just Japan. Honda’s current facilities directory lists automobile manufacturing operations in 13 countries: Japan, the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Vietnam, Nigeria and Ghana. That is a company-wide list of manufacturing locations—not a claim that every Honda model is built in every country. A specific car’s origin depends on its model, model year and destination market.
Which countries make Honda cars?
Honda’s facilities directory identifies automobile manufacturing operations in the following countries. It also lists facilities for motorcycles, engines, parts and other products, so this list is limited to entries identified as automobile manufacturing.
- Japan: Honda lists the Saitama Factory Automobile Plant and Suzuka Factory.
- United States: Honda lists automobile plants in Ohio and Indiana. Its directory also includes the Anna Engine Plant, which makes engines rather than complete automobiles.
- Canada: Honda’s Alliston, Ontario operation builds Civic and CR-V models, according to the company’s 2025 filing. Honda identifies Alliston as its only Canadian manufacturing facility.
- Mexico: Honda lists automobile manufacturing at El Salto and the Celaya Auto Plant.
- Brazil: Honda lists automobile manufacturing at Itirapina, in São Paulo state.
- China: Honda lists Dongfeng Honda facilities in Wuhan and GAC Honda facilities in Guangzhou, including new-energy-vehicle facilities.
- India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan and Vietnam: Honda’s directory lists automobile operations in each country.
- Nigeria and Ghana: Honda lists automobile manufacturing in both countries. Its Tema, Ghana plant began production in December 2023.
For the current facility list and plant details, see Honda’s global manufacturing facilities directory. A directory entry establishes manufacturing presence, but it does not by itself identify which models are currently assembled there.
How much does Honda produce in each country?
Honda reported making 3,396,057 automobiles worldwide in calendar year 2025. Of those, 689,802 were produced in Japan and 2,706,255 outside Japan. The United States accounted for 928,679 vehicles and China for 682,289. These are production totals for 2025, not sales figures or 2026 totals.

Where are specific Honda models built?
Civic and CR-V in Canada
Honda’s 2025 filing says Civic and CR-V models are currently built at its Alliston facilities in Ontario. This confirms those models are made in Canada, but it does not mean every Civic or CR-V sold in every market comes from Alliston. The filing identifies Alliston as Honda’s only manufacturing facility in Canada. Read Honda Canada’s 2025 annual report.
HR-V in Ghana at the plant launch
Honda said its Tema plant in Ghana began automobile production in December 2023 with the HR-V. The company described the facility’s initial annual capacity as 500 units at launch; that is not a current production count. Honda said Tema was its second African automobile production plant, after Nigeria. Honda’s announcement of production at the Tema plant also quotes operating executive Katsuhisa Okuda describing the company’s longstanding commitment to “build products close to the customer.”
Are Honda cars made in the United States?
Yes. Honda lists automobile plants in Ohio and Indiana, and its 2025 production report records 928,679 automobiles produced in the United States during that calendar year. The country-level total does not map every model to a plant; check Honda’s facility directory for any specific plant-and-model pairing before relying on it.

The country list narrows down the possibilities, but it cannot identify an individual vehicle. Model assignments can vary by model year and sales market, and the sources here do not provide a complete, current global model-to-plant map.
- Identify the exact vehicle: note its model, model year and the market where it was sold. A model name alone may not be enough to distinguish production assignments.
- Check the vehicle’s own identification or label information: use the origin details on the specific vehicle rather than guessing from the Honda badge or the dealer’s location.
- Confirm with an official, vehicle-specific source: consult Honda or the relevant manufacturer information for that vehicle. Honda’s facilities directory can confirm that a country has automobile operations, but it is not a VIN lookup tool.
Honda’s North American production plans are not a model list
In a May 14, 2026 business briefing, Honda said it planned to reallocate excess capacity at Ohio auto plants to gasoline and hybrid vehicles and make all North American auto plants capable of producing hybrid models. This describes planned capacity and capability, not a completed conversion or a statement that every plant assembles every North American hybrid model. Honda’s May 2026 business briefing.
