The sale is over: The Ross Gazette reported that every lot sold. The cars ranged from Peugeot 205s and familiar British classics to prestige models, but condition varied sharply, with many vehicles considered more suitable for parts than restoration.
What happened to the Doward Farm collection?
Mark Dew collected vehicles for 40 years and had originally hoped to create a motoring museum. Instead, the collection was sold at a live auction conducted by Tewkesbury Auction Centre at Doward Farm on 28 and 29 June 2025. Classics World reported that the sale was in person, with no online bidding facility. Classics World’s account described more than 200 vehicles; The Ross Gazette’s 10 July 2025 report counted 200 going under the hammer.
The Ross Gazette said every vehicle was offered without a reserve and auctioneer Finlay Hutchings reported that every lot sold. Hutchings told the paper: “I was amazed how many people turned up for the auction. It was very successful as every lot was sold.”
What was in the 200-car barn find?
The vehicles were spread across fields, two barns and outbuildings. Reported examples included:
#1 Best Overall
- Highly detailed 1:24 scale diecast model kit of 1929 Ford Model A
- Comes with everything needed for assembly including screwdriver
- Features opening parts, rolling wheels and pre-painted metal body
- Easy to assemble, creates fully functional rolling replica model car
- Fun and educational STEM activity for kids to build realistic miniature vehicle
- Many Peugeot 205s, reflecting Dew’s former ambition to collect 205 examples
- Triumph TR7s, MGs and Volkswagen Golf Cabriolets
- Land Rovers and Range Rovers
- A Mercedes-Benz R107 SL, Bentley Turbo R and Aston Martin DBS
- A Jaguar with a tree growing through its bumper
The range made the collection notable, but a barn-find label says little by itself about a car’s completeness or condition.
Were the cars restorable?
Condition differed from vehicle to vehicle. Classics World warned that many cars were better suited to parts use than restoration, while identifying at least one Peugeot 205 GTI and a Mk1 Golf GTI as possible restoration projects requiring substantial work. Hutchings said many body panels had disintegrated and expected some buyers to use vehicles primarily for parts.

For anyone assessing a similar project-car sale, the useful questions are practical: how much structural rust is present, whether the car is complete, what documentation and registration history exist, how readily parts can be found, and whether the vehicle makes more sense as a restoration or a donor. Transport and restoration costs also affect the real outlay. These are general checks for future auctions, not claims about the full Doward Farm catalogue.

These are selected published results, not a complete sale catalogue. The Ross Gazette characterized the overall prices as strong despite extensive rust; that was the auctioneer’s assessment, not a market-wide measure. Hutchings also described the appeal as “nostalgia combined with how far the bidder is prepared to go,” while noting that some cars would likely serve mainly as parts donors.
