Can Mercedes-Benz increase the price after you place an order? There is no single answer that applies to every buyer. It depends on your country, the seller, the documents you accepted, and whether you have a reservation, an accepted order, a signed vehicle purchase agreement, or a separate finance agreement. Before agreeing to a revised price, identify which document governs your transaction, find the clause that permits the change, and get the amount and its calculation in writing. A booking receipt or deposit alone may not establish that you have completed a vehicle purchase.
First, identify which agreement you have reached
A car purchase can involve several documents created at different stages. Their names are not interchangeable. A reservation may hold a place in an ordering process; an order form may state a requested configuration and price; a later vehicle purchase agreement may set the final sale terms; and a finance agreement separately governs borrowing. The document that matters most for a price dispute depends on what was accepted and what the documents say.

Start by recording the contracting seller shown on each document. It might be a dealer, the manufacturer, or another entity. Note the model and variant, options, order or reservation number, booking date, and any acceptance confirmation. A receipt showing that money was paid is useful evidence of payment, but do not assume it alone proves that the seller accepted a final vehicle sale at a fixed price. Check whether the form says that another agreement must be signed before the sale is complete.

- Accepted vehicle order: Look for the seller’s acceptance, the exact vehicle and price, and any terms incorporated into the order.
- Vehicle purchase agreement: Confirm whether it has been signed by the required parties and whether it replaces, supplements, or incorporates earlier documents.
- Finance agreement: Treat it as a separate contract, even if the dealer arranged it alongside the vehicle order.
Keep copies of the exact versions you received and accepted, with their dates. If a page links to terms or says that other conditions apply, preserve those terms too. A later version of a web page may not be the version incorporated into your booking.

What official market examples show—and what they do not
Published Mercedes-Benz materials illustrate why the answer must be tied to the buyer’s own transaction. They describe different arrangements in different markets; none establishes a universal booking policy. Use them as examples of the questions to ask, not as a substitute for your contract.

Review the price as a set of components
Do not compare only the headline vehicle price. Put the booking documents and the revision notice side by side, then identify what each figure includes. A price can refer to the vehicle alone while other amounts appear separately. Your paperwork may list optional equipment, delivery or handling, taxes, registration charges, or separately priced services. The point is to find which amounts are fixed by the agreement and which, if any, can change under a stated condition.
- Write down the original quoted or confirmed amount and the revised amount, with the date and document where each appears.
- Compare the vehicle’s model, variant, equipment, and options. A changed configuration can make two totals non-comparable.
- Separate the vehicle price from taxes, registration, delivery or handling, and services rather than assuming they are included.
- Look for language describing the figure as fixed, indicative, subject to confirmation, or valid only until a specified date.
- Check whether the documents say who may set a final amount and when it becomes binding.
If the seller says a change is due to a particular fee, tax, option, or other item, ask for the amount attributed to that item and the document provision that allows it. Request a revised itemized quote rather than relying on a new total alone. That makes it possible to see whether the underlying vehicle price changed, whether a charge was added, or whether the specification differs.
Read the price-revision clause word for word
Search the booking form, order confirmation, incorporated terms, and any later purchase agreement for provisions about price changes, final pricing, manufacturer price, taxes, delivery, or variation. Do not stop at a sentence saying that the seller may revise the price. Identify the boundaries of that permission, if the documents state them.

- Trigger: What event permits a change? Is it a stated date, a manufacturer’s final price, a change in taxes, or another defined event?
- Decision-maker: Does the agreement identify who sets the new amount—the seller, manufacturer, or another party?
- Calculation: Does it give a formula, refer to a published price, or explain how the increase is determined?
- Scope: Does the provision cover the vehicle, options, taxes, delivery, or other charges? Do not assume a clause about one category covers every component.
- Limit: Does the clause state a cap or other boundary? If it does not, do not infer one.
- Notice and timing: Does the seller have to tell you by a particular date or before a particular stage?
- Your response: Can you reject the change, cancel, or request a deposit refund? Check for deadlines and required methods.
Ask the seller to identify the exact clause and explain how it produces the revised total. A useful written request is: “Please identify the term that permits this change, show the calculation by price component, and confirm whether it applies to my accepted order or only to a later purchase agreement.” This does not determine your legal rights by itself, but it creates a clear record of the explanation you were given.
Check which document takes priority
Read the order form together with the acceptance confirmation, any signed addendum, dealer correspondence, and the terms incorporated by reference. A general term may not tell the whole story if the parties also made a specific written agreement. Preserve emails and other written promises, especially if they identify a price, configuration, or period of validity.
For a contract governed by German law, BGB § 305b provides that individual contractual agreements take precedence over standard terms. Section 305c(2) provides that ambiguity in standard terms is resolved against the party supplying them. Section 308 no. 4 restricts certain unreasonable reservations to change performance in standard terms. These provisions are Germany-specific and require interpretation in context; they do not guarantee a particular outcome or apply universally. If your transaction is elsewhere, use the law applicable to that transaction rather than borrowing a German rule.
If the order form and a later document appear inconsistent, make a simple record of the wording, dates, and parties. Ask the seller which terms it considers controlling and why. Do not assume that a later document automatically cancels every earlier promise—or that an earlier quote necessarily overrides an accepted later agreement. The wording and applicable law matter.

Understand the deposit and your cancellation route
Before deciding whether to accept a revision, determine what happens if you refuse it. Check the deposit amount, whether the contract calls it refundable or non-refundable, any cancellation fee, the deadline and method for cancellation, and the stated refund process. Look for separate consequences if the seller cannot supply the agreed configuration or price.
Do not treat the word “deposit” as a complete answer. A deposit is not automatically forfeited just because you cancel, and it is not automatically refundable in every situation. The contract and local law govern. The UAE pre-order example describes cancellation before signing the Vehicle Purchase Agreement and a deposit refund on request under its stated conditions; confirm that those terms actually govern your booking before relying on them.
In the United Kingdom, GOV.UK guidance says a business can keep a deposit or charge a cancellation fee only if the contract term is fair, and says a non-refundable deposit should be a small percentage of the total price. That guidance is specific to the UK. If the transaction is in another jurisdiction, check the applicable consumer-protection rules there.
If you choose to cancel, follow the contract’s stated method and keep evidence of when and how you sent the request. Ask the seller to confirm in writing the amount to be returned, any deduction, the reason for it, and when the refund will be made. If the seller says the deposit is forfeited, ask it to identify the relevant term and explain the basis for the deduction.

Recalculate the finance agreement separately
A vehicle-price revision can affect a finance proposal, but the vehicle order and the finance contract are not the same document. Mercedes-Benz UK says a finance customer receives a finance agreement that requires a signature and provides sample paperwork to review. Read the actual agreement offered to you; a sample is not your signed contract.
Before accepting a revised vehicle price, request updated figures in writing for the total amount financed, your deposit or upfront contribution, monthly payments, and any finance offer terms affected by the change. Check that the revised vehicle configuration and delivery timing still match what the finance figures assume. Do not treat a verbal statement that “the payment is about the same” as confirmation of the finance terms. If the finance agreement has already been signed, ask the finance provider how a vehicle-order change would affect that separate agreement before taking action.
Compare the booking and revision documents systematically
If you have a booking form and a later notice—or a later purchase agreement—compare them on the same six points. This makes missing information and changed terms easier to spot.

Mark each item as matching, changed, or not stated in the documents. “Not stated” is a reason to ask for clarification, not permission to fill in an answer yourself. Keep the seller’s response with the comparison so you can see whether it resolves the gap.

Questions to ask before accepting the new amount
Put questions in writing, especially if a deadline is approaching. Keep them specific enough that the seller can answer with a clause, calculation, or document rather than a general assurance.
- Which clause permits this change, and which signed or accepted document contains it?
- What exact amount changed, and how was the revised total calculated?
- Does the change apply to my accepted order, or only to a later Vehicle Purchase Agreement?
- Can I decline the revision and cancel? What happens to my deposit, and what deadline and method apply?
- Have the vehicle specification, included charges, taxes, or delivery timing changed?
- What are the updated finance figures, and do they require a new or amended finance agreement?
Ask for a corrected order or a written explanation before accepting a different amount. Avoid relying on an oral assurance that conflicts with the paperwork or leaves the calculation unclear. If the seller refuses to explain the basis for a demand or the treatment of your deposit, a consumer-protection agency, consumer organization, or lawyer in your jurisdiction can review the documents.
How to decide what to do next
Do not accept or reject a revision solely because it came after a booking. First establish the transaction stage and applicable documents, then determine whether the relevant terms set a fixed price or allow a change under defined conditions. Confirm the revised amount, the vehicle and charges it covers, your cancellation and refund position, and any effect on financing. If the paperwork is unclear or the seller’s explanation does not match the clause, get local advice before a deadline passes.

The available official examples show materially different approaches in India and the UAE, alongside jurisdiction-specific consumer and contract rules in the UK and Germany. They cannot settle an individual dispute without the buyer’s country, seller, full documents, acceptance status, and facts about the change. Your signed or accepted terms and the law governing your transaction are the necessary starting point.
