The race was held on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at Shanghai International Circuit, with the scheduled start at 3:00 p.m. Shanghai time—China Standard Time, or UTC+8. That was 3:00 a.m. EDT, 2:00 a.m. CDT, 1:00 a.m. MDT and midnight PDT in the United States, and 7:00 a.m. GMT in the United Kingdom.
In the U.S., the 2026 F1 season—including the Chinese Grand Prix—was carried exclusively by Apple TV. The full race is available on demand through the applicable service, while Formula 1 also published official race highlights on its website and YouTube channel. Kimi Antonelli won the race ahead of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton.

What time did the 2026 Chinese Grand Prix start?
The scheduled Grand Prix start was 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, in Shanghai. Shanghai uses China Standard Time (UTC+8) year-round. Calling this simply “CST” can be confusing for U.S. readers, who may read CST as Central Standard Time.

For U.S. viewers, March 15 fell after the 2026 daylight-saving change. That is why the correct labels are Eastern Daylight Time, Central Daylight Time, Mountain Daylight Time and Pacific Daylight Time. Pacific Time viewers should note that the race started at midnight on Sunday, not Saturday night.
Was 3:00 p.m. the broadcast start or the lights-out time?
3:00 p.m. Shanghai time was the scheduled Grand Prix start, commonly described as the scheduled lights-out time. It was not necessarily the time that a broadcaster’s pre-race program began. Anyone wanting grid interviews, the build-up, the national anthem and formation-lap coverage needed to open the Apple TV or local broadcast feed before 3:00 a.m. Eastern in the U.S., or before the equivalent local start time elsewhere.
The timetable also listed the race as 56 laps or a maximum scheduled window of 120 minutes. Formula 1 noted that the timetable was subject to change, so a live race-weekend schedule should always be checked against the broadcaster’s listing.
How to watch the 2026 Chinese Grand Prix in the United States
Apple TV was the exclusive U.S. broadcaster for the 2026 Formula 1 season. Its coverage included the Chinese Grand Prix, practice, Sprint Qualifying, the Sprint, Grand Prix qualifying and on-demand viewing. Apple announced the U.S. arrangement in its original broadcast-partner announcement and confirmed the Chinese Grand Prix coverage in its 2026 season announcement.

Apple listed the U.S. subscription at $12.99 per month, with a seven-day free trial for new subscribers. That was the published offer for the 2026 season; pricing, eligibility and trial terms can change, so readers signing up later should check the current Apple TV terms. A trial is a promotional subscription—not a permanently free live F1 stream.
Do I need an Apple TV device?
No. “Apple TV” refers here to Apple’s streaming service, not necessarily an Apple TV 4K hardware box. The service could be accessed through:
- the Apple TV app on compatible smart TVs and streaming devices;
- a web browser at tv.apple.com;
- iPhone, iPad and Mac;
- Apple TV 4K;
- supported smart TVs;
- Roku and Amazon Fire TV;
- Chromecast with Google TV; and
- PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
Exact app support can depend on the device model, operating system and region. If the race does not appear in the app, confirm that the device is signed into the U.S. Apple account with the active subscription and that the Apple TV app is updated.

What did F1 TV add for U.S. subscribers?
In the U.S. arrangement, F1 TV Premium was included through Apple TV rather than being presented as a separate standalone purchase for the live 2026 F1 broadcast. The Premium experience added features such as onboard cameras, team radio, live timing, telemetry, multiple feeds, multiview and 4K/HDR coverage on supported devices. Formula 1’s F1 TV Premium guide explains the arrangement and feature set.
Was the race on Yahoo Sports?
Yahoo Sports also carried live practice and qualifying under Apple’s 2026 distribution arrangement. That should not be confused with a confirmed Yahoo Sports live stream of the Chinese Grand Prix itself. For the Grand Prix and its on-demand replay in the U.S., Apple TV was the relevant broadcaster.
Where to watch Formula 1 in other countries
International rights are territorial, and a broadcaster listed for one country may not carry every practice, Sprint or qualifying session in the same package. Formula 1’s official broadcast-information page is the best starting point, but Formula 1 itself advises viewers to check local listings for the exact session.
| Territory | Broadcaster or service | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland | Sky Sports; Channel 4 | Sky Sports carried the live weekend coverage. Channel 4 offered free-to-air coverage or highlights, with the precise offering depending on location and listing. |
| Canada | TSN, TSN+, RDS, RDS 2, Noovo | Check the provider’s listing for the specific session and package. |
| Australia | Fox Sports, Foxtel, Kayo | Coverage and streaming availability depend on the package. |
| India | FanCode, TATA Play FanCode Sports | Verify the current package and session listing. |
| China | Shanghai TV, Guangdong Television Channel, Tencent | Use local listings and check regional availability. |
| Japan | Fuji TV | Verify the local schedule. |
| Germany | Sky Deutschland, RTL | Live and highlights arrangements may vary. |
| France | Canal+ | Verify the applicable Canal+ service. |
| Spain and Andorra | DAZN | Verify the local DAZN plan. |
| Italy | Sky Italia | Verify the specific channel or stream. |
| Netherlands | Viaplay | Verify the local event listing. |
| Latin America | ESPN | Country-specific availability may differ. |
| Mexico | TUDN, Sky Sports, Izzi | Verify the applicable package. |
| Middle East and Turkey | beIN Sports | Regional service and package requirements apply. |
| Africa | SuperSport | Check country-specific listings. |
F1 TV Pro is not a universal international substitute. Its live content and availability vary by territory, and Formula 1’s F1 TV subscription terms explain that regional rights affect what subscribers can watch.
Full 2026 Chinese Grand Prix weekend schedule
China was a Sprint weekend, so the schedule did not include the usual three Formula 1 practice sessions. There was one practice session on Friday, Sprint Qualifying later that day, the Sprint on Saturday morning and Grand Prix qualifying on Saturday afternoon.

The official Formula 1 timetable lists the session windows, the 56-lap race distance and the 120-minute race limit. A Sprint is a separate race: the Saturday Sprint was not the Chinese Grand Prix.
Why the Chinese Grand Prix schedule was different
Formula 1 used the Sprint format in Shanghai. The weekend contained:
- one practice session on Friday;
- Sprint Qualifying on Friday afternoon;
- the Sprint on Saturday morning;
- Grand Prix qualifying on Saturday afternoon; and
- the main Chinese Grand Prix on Sunday afternoon in Shanghai.
George Russell won the Sprint, while Kimi Antonelli took pole position for Sunday’s Grand Prix. Formula 1’s reports cover the Sprint result and Antonelli’s pole.
Spoiler: who won the 2026 Chinese Grand Prix?
Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes won his first Formula 1 Grand Prix in Shanghai. Mercedes teammate George Russell finished second, and Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton finished third. The FIA’s race report confirms the podium, while Formula 1’s official report details Antonelli’s maiden victory.
Where to watch the full replay and highlights
For the full race, use the official F1 TV Chinese Grand Prix replay listing. Access to a full replay depends on the F1 TV product and the territory in which it is being viewed. In the U.S., the 2026 F1 TV Premium experience was included through the Apple TV arrangement rather than sold as a separate live-race option.
If a shorter recap is preferable, Formula 1 published an official 2026 Chinese Grand Prix highlights video. The verified Formula 1 YouTube channel also published the race highlights.

Watching while traveling abroad
A subscription bought in one country may not provide the same live or on-demand content when used in another country. Streaming rights follow regional agreements, so travelers should first check the local broadcaster and the service’s terms. A VPN should not be treated as the main viewing solution: it may conflict with a provider’s terms and does not change the underlying regional rights.

One outdated listing to avoid
U.S. guides that direct viewers to ESPN or ABC for live 2026 Formula 1 coverage are outdated. Apple TV became the exclusive U.S. home of F1 for the 2026 season. ESPN’s race-weekend guide correctly identified Apple TV as the U.S. outlet, but the official Apple and Formula 1 announcements are the stronger references for the rights arrangement.

The scheduled start was 3:00 a.m. EDT, 2:00 a.m. CDT, 1:00 a.m. MDT and midnight PDT on Sunday, March 15, 2026. Those were the race-start times, not necessarily the beginning of pre-race coverage.
Was the 2026 Chinese Grand Prix on ESPN?
No. Apple TV was the exclusive U.S. Formula 1 broadcaster for the 2026 season. ESPN and ABC listings for live 2026 F1 coverage are outdated. Yahoo Sports carried practice and qualifying under the Apple arrangement, but it was not the confirmed main-race outlet.
Can I watch the 2026 Chinese Grand Prix for free in the U.S.?
Apple published a seven-day free trial for new Apple TV subscribers, with the service listed at $12.99 per month. Trial eligibility and terms can change, and a trial is not the same as a permanently free broadcast. Official highlights may also be available through Formula 1’s website and YouTube channel.

What time was the race in the UK, Australia, Canada and India?
The race started at 7:00 a.m. GMT in the UK, 6:00 p.m. AEDT in Melbourne, and 12:30 p.m. IST in India. Canada spans several time zones: the equivalent times were midnight PDT in Vancouver, 1:00 a.m. MDT in much of Alberta, 2:00 a.m. CDT in Manitoba and 3:00 a.m. EDT in Ontario and Quebec.

Where can I watch the full 2026 Chinese Grand Prix replay?
The official F1 TV replay listing is the primary place to look for the complete race. Formula 1 also published an official race-highlights video on its website and the verified Formula 1 YouTube channel. Full-replay access can vary by territory and subscription.
Can I use my usual F1 streaming service while traveling abroad?
Not necessarily. Regional broadcast rights mean a subscription purchased in one country may not carry the same live or replay content abroad. Check the local broadcaster and the service’s terms before traveling; do not assume a VPN is an officially supported solution.
The Bottom Line
The 2026 Chinese Grand Prix was scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in Shanghai on Sunday, March 15—3:00 a.m. EDT, 2:00 a.m. CDT, 1:00 a.m. MDT and midnight PDT in the U.S. Apple TV was the exclusive U.S. broadcaster, while the official F1 TV replay and Formula 1 highlights remain the legitimate options for catching up. Kimi Antonelli won ahead of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton.
