What Oscar Piastri Said to Lando Norris After the 2025 Abu Dhabi GP

Oscar Piastri’s congratulations to Lando Norris after Abu Dhabi are documented in the press conference, not as the viral radio quote described online.

Oscar Piastri did congratulate Lando Norris after the 2025 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix—but the documented words came in the post-race press conference, not in a radio message. The radio transcript reviewed does not substantiate the viral Piastri-to-Norris exchange described in the title.

What did Piastri say to Norris?

At the official post-race press conference, Piastri said: “Congratulations to Lando on the Championship win, it was great to battle with him all the way to the end, and it’s a lovely moment for the team.” That was a press-conference remark, not a team-radio message. Formula 1’s transcript of the 7 December 2025 press conference records the comment.

Asked about Norris’s season, Piastri also called him “a very deserving winner,” adding that Norris had “had a great season” and was “a deserving champion.” These remarks, too, were made at the press conference.

Does the radio record show a Piastri congratulation?

The Formula Dream archive of 2025 Abu Dhabi race-radio transcripts does not show a Piastri-to-Norris congratulatory line in its closing sequence. That sequence is attributed to Norris and McLaren CEO Zak Brown. The archive says its transcripts are generated from real radio audio using speech recognition, and cautions that audio may be clipped or noisy and transcript wording may be imperfect. It may not include every post-race or off-broadcast communication, so its record does not prove no such exchange occurred; it simply does not verify the claimed quote.

The archive’s closing sequence includes Brown asking, “Is this the world champion hotline?” Because the archive transcript is machine-generated and the audio may be noisy, that wording should be treated as the archive’s rendering rather than a definitive verbatim transcript.

What happened in the race?

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix took place on 7 December 2025. Max Verstappen won, Piastri finished second, and Norris took third place—enough to secure his first Drivers’ Championship. Formula 1’s race report says Piastri passed Norris on the opening lap and ran a long first stint on hard tyres as part of a one-stop strategy. Norris used two stops while managing the podium finish needed for the title.

One Piastri radio line highlighted in Formula 1’s race coverage was: “The rear’s starting to get a bit worse now.” It referred to his tyre condition during that long stint, not to a post-race congratulations. Formula 1’s race-day team report provides the context for the team communications.

What is verified—and what is not?

  • Verified: Piastri congratulated Norris in the post-race press conference.
  • Verified: Verstappen won, Piastri was second, and Norris finished third to clinch the title.
  • Not verified: The exact wording of a viral Piastri-to-Norris radio message, or that such a message went viral.

No attributable view count, engagement figure, or ranking establishes the message’s virality. The safest distinction is straightforward: Piastri’s congratulations are on the record, but as press-conference remarks; the radio archive reviewed does not substantiate the purported radio quote.
