The 2020 Lexus GS 350 F SPORT is “the last of its kind” in a specific sense: it is the newest GS model year listed in Lexus’s U.S. newsroom archive. It was a midsize luxury sport sedan with a 311-hp V6, available rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and F SPORT chassis and styling upgrades. The phrase does not mean Lexus declared it the final GS, or that Lexus stopped building sport sedans or F SPORT models.
What does “last of its kind” mean for the GS?
Lexus’s U.S. GS archive lists 2020 as the newest GS model year. That makes the 2020 GS 350 F SPORT the latest listed example of the GS nameplate in that archive. The reviewed Lexus materials do not include a formal announcement that 2020 was the GS’s final U.S. model year, nor do they explain why the line ended. So “last of its kind” is best understood as an archive-based description, not a quoted Lexus declaration or a claim about the company’s decision.
It also does not mean the GS 350 F SPORT was Lexus’s last sport sedan, last F SPORT, or last V8 sedan. The GS 350 used a V6, and Lexus continued the smaller IS line, later adding the V8-powered IS 500 F SPORT Performance.
What made the 2020 GS 350 F SPORT distinctive?
A V6 with two drivetrain configurations
Lexus rated the 2020 GS 350’s 3.5-liter V6 at 311 hp and 280 lb.-ft. of torque. In the rear-wheel-drive version, it was paired with an eight-speed automatic; all-wheel-drive cars used a six-speed automatic, according to Lexus’s 2020 GS 350 release.

Lexus described the available AWD system as normally sending torque in a 30:70 front-to-rear split, with the ability to vary that split as far as 50:50 depending on conditions. That gives the GS 350 F SPORT two distinct configurations rather than a single drivetrain-and-transmission combination.
F SPORT chassis and equipment
Lexus said the F SPORT package added track-tuned chassis enhancements and exclusive exterior and interior details. It was available with AWD. On RWD versions, Lexus specified a limited-slip differential and offered Lexus Dynamic Handling with Dynamic Rear Steering as an option. Those features distinguish the F SPORT from a GS 350 defined only by its engine output.

Safety and cabin technology
The 2020 GS 350 release listed Lexus Safety System+ as standard, including Pre-Collision System with pedestrian detection, Lane Departure Alert with Lane Keep Assist, Intelligent High Beams, and All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. Lexus also described a 12.3-inch screen as available and standard on the GS 350.
What did the Black Line edition add?
The 2020 GS 350 F SPORT Black Line Special Edition was offered in both RWD and AWD. Its visual and cabin changes included Gloss Black F SPORT wheels, black mirror caps and grille inserts, a black rear spoiler, red accents, carbon-fiber ornamentation, and Alcantara trim. Lexus specified orange brake calipers on RWD models in its Black Line announcement.

The release gives conflicting production figures: its summary says 200 vehicles, while its body says 210. Because the same announcement does not resolve the discrepancy, neither figure should be treated as a settled total.
How does the later IS lineup compare?
The IS provides useful context for what Lexus offered after the GS’s newest archived model year, but the reviewed Lexus releases do not say it directly replaced the GS. The cars occupied different roles: Lexus described the IS as a compact front-engine, rear-wheel-drive sports sedan, while the GS was a midsize luxury sport sedan.

The model descriptions and 2021 IS grade details come from Lexus’s 2021 IS release; the V8 and output figures come from its 2022 IS 500 announcement. Lexus reported a 4.4-second 0–60 mph time for the IS 500 according to AMCI testing. That performance figure belongs to the later V8 IS, not the GS 350 F SPORT.

No. The GS 350 F SPORT itself had a naturally aspirated V6, but Lexus introduced the IS 500 F SPORT Performance with a naturally aspirated V8 for 2022. In 2025, Lexus described the 500-unit North American IS 500 Ultimate Edition as “one of the last remaining naturally aspirated luxury V8s on the market.” That is Lexus’s characterization of the V8 market, not a claim about the GS or an independently established market count; see the 2025 IS 500 Ultimate Edition release.
