There is no single overall “most reliable luxury SUV” in J.D. Power’s 2025 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study. The top-ranked models were the Mercedes-Benz GLC in Compact Premium SUV, the Lexus GX in Midsize Premium SUV, and the Cadillac XT6 in Upper Midsize Premium SUV. “2025” refers to the study edition: it surveyed owners of 2022 model-year vehicles after three years of ownership, so it is not a direct verdict on 2025 model-year SUVs.
What is the most reliable luxury SUV in 2025?
According to J.D. Power’s segment rankings, the answer depends on which size class you mean:

These are separate segment results, not a single ranking of every luxury SUV against every other one. J.D. Power’s table lists the top models by segment but does not provide individual model PP100 scores in the cited material, so it does not establish the size of the gap between positions or show that every difference is statistically meaningful. What the 2025 study measured
The study edition covered 34,175 original owners of 2022 model-year vehicles, surveyed after three years of ownership. J.D. Power fielded it from August through November 2024. It examined 184 problem areas across nine categories:

How to interpret the dependability rankings
PP100 is a problem count, not a reliability percentage
J.D. Power reports problems per 100 vehicles, or PP100; a lower score indicates higher vehicle quality. The 2025 release gives an industry-wide average of 202 PP100, 12 points higher than the prior year. That is context for the overall study, not a score for the GLC, GX, XT6, or any other individual SUV.

Rankings do not prove a meaningful gap between every position
J.D. Power cautions that rankings are based on numerical scores and are not necessarily statistically significant. It also requires sufficient sample size and segment market coverage for model awards; if award criteria are not met, no award is issued. Read the segment leaders as the study’s top-ranked models, not as proof that one will be trouble-free or clearly outperform every alternative. 2025 U.S. VDS release
How to use the results when choosing a luxury SUV
- Choose the size class first. Compare the GLC with compact-premium alternatives, the GX with midsize-premium alternatives, or the XT6 with upper-midsize-premium alternatives. The study does not select one best fit across all three classes.
- Match the result to the model year you are considering. The VDS reflects reports about 2022 vehicles after three years; it cannot establish how a different model year will hold up.
- Use the ranking as one input. It measures owner-reported dependability, not total ownership cost, safety, or whether a particular SUV suits your needs.
Is the 2025 VDS the latest study?
