Jaguar Type 01 is a forthcoming all-electric luxury four-door GT and the first production Jaguar built on the company’s dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA). Its defining choice is a long bonnet and low, fastback roofline rather than the taller, more upright profile often used to prioritize cabin packaging in electric cars. Jaguar revealed the production-intent car in October 2026; it expects orders to open in early 2027 and first customer deliveries in the second half of 2027. Its announced performance, range and charging figures remain manufacturer claims, not independent road-test results.
What the Jaguar Type 01 is
Jaguar describes the Type 01 as a luxury four-door GT: a large, low-slung electric car intended to combine long-distance touring with a dramatic design. It is not simply the earlier concept under a new name. Jaguar presented a production-intent vehicle in October 2026 and says the Type 01 will be the first production model on its Jaguar Electric Architecture, or JEA.

Jaguar says a dedicated electric platform gave its engineers room to pursue the car’s proportions and occupant experience. The distinction matters because “EV” does not prescribe one body shape. An electric car can use a tall cabin and short front end to emphasize packaging, or it can make a lower, longer silhouette a central part of its design. Type 01 takes the latter route.

It is not a trim designation or a suggestion that the production-intent car is still only a concept. Jaguar Managing Director Rawdon Glover described the name as part of a brand reset and a “new chapter”; that is Jaguar’s own explanation, rather than an independent assessment of the car.

In Jaguar’s October 2026 naming release, Glover said: “We have reimagined Jaguar for a new era, with inspiration from what has gone before. Our engineers have achieved this with a vehicle that looks and drives like no other electric car yet reflects a unique provenance. The Type 01 name is part of that story – for me, the zero also signifies a complete brand reset, and the ‘1’, our first car for a new chapter, a ‘one of a kind!’” This statement explains the company’s intent and the symbolism it assigns to the name. It should not be mistaken for an independent judgment that the car drives unlike all other EVs; that claim would require comparative driving evidence.
How the exterior design compares with other EVs
Type 01’s main visual contrast is its profile. Jaguar has given it an elongated bonnet, a low roof, a fastback rear, a broad stance and large 23-inch wheels. The resulting impression is closer to a traditional grand-tourer or low luxury saloon than to an upright, cab-forward electric crossover. The comparison is about design priorities, not a claim that every other electric car has the same shape.
Many EV designs make cabin space and a relatively upright seating position prominent: the body can be tall, with the windscreen and front occupants positioned farther forward. Type 01 instead emphasizes a long hood-like front section and a low roofline. That gives the car a distinct GT identity, but the silhouette alone cannot establish how much passenger or luggage space it will have. Jaguar’s public material and the independent design coverage considered here do not establish a tested comparison of interior room or cargo capacity against rival cars.
| Design question | Jaguar Type 01 | How that differs from a common EV design approach |
|---|---|---|
| Overall profile | Low, long four-door fastback GT, as shown in Jaguar’s October 2026 reveal | Some EVs prioritize a taller, more upright body; this is a broad design contrast, not a description of every model |
| Front proportions | An elongated bonnet is a signature feature | Some electric-car designs use a shorter-looking front and a more forward cabin to emphasize packaging |
| Stance and wheels | Broad stance and 23-inch wheels, according to Jaguar’s reveal material | Wheel size and body stance vary widely; there are no matched rival measurements to cite |
| Cabin arrangement | Four occupant spaces organized around a front-to-rear central spine, according to Jaguar | Other EV cabins use different seat counts and layouts; no like-for-like space measurements are established here |
| Rearward view | Wallpaper* reports that a camera and screen replace a conventional rear window | Most visual comparisons stop short of measuring visibility; no system test is available here |
Jaguar says the body was honed in a wind tunnel and calls Type 01 its most aerodynamic Jaguar. That is a manufacturer description; no drag coefficient or independent, like-for-like aerodynamic comparison is established in the available material. A wind-tunnel development process may inform the shape, but it does not by itself prove better efficiency than another EV.
The distinction between “aerodynamic” as a design aim and “more efficient” as a measured result matters. The first describes how Jaguar says it developed the exterior; the second would need a defined comparison, such as matched road tests or comparable consumption figures. The reveal’s low roof, long bonnet and clean surfaces give readers a clear visual basis for describing the car’s character, but do not establish how much energy it will use in everyday driving.
That is also why it is more useful to compare Type 01 with EVs by design category than to declare it a winner against a specific rival. It is presented as a four-door, four-seat fastback with the scale of a large luxury saloon but a markedly lower profile. The broad contrast with tall, cab-forward EVs is apparent in the proportions. Without matched dimensions or measured cabin and cargo figures, a more exact statement about footprint or space would go beyond what is confirmed.
What the design choices mean for occupants
A GT seating position, not an assumed space advantage
Jaguar presents a low seating position as part of the intended grand-touring experience. The long bonnet and low roof help define that experience visually, while the four-seat layout gives each occupant a distinct place around the cabin’s longitudinal centre spine. Jaguar describes the spine as brass-inspired and as running from front to rear.

Those details support a description of the cabin’s concept, not a conclusion about comfort. The sources do not provide independent assessments of seat support, headroom, legroom, ingress, or long-distance comfort. Nor do the exterior proportions answer those questions: an EV platform can package components differently from a combustion-car platform, but the Type 01’s actual cabin dimensions and real-world passenger experience cannot be inferred from the silhouette alone.
The four-person arrangement is worth noting because it frames the cabin as four distinct places rather than a promise of maximum seating capacity. The central spine is a prominent organizing element in Jaguar’s description, and it helps explain why the interior is being presented as part of the car’s design identity, not merely as an open, minimalist space. Still, the available details do not settle the practical questions a buyer might ask about storage, child-seat fit, rear-seat access or whether the middle section limits usable cabin space. Those require final specifications and inspection of a customer-ready car.
A camera-based rear view
Wallpaper* reports that the Type 01 has no rear window, with a camera and screen taking its place. If that detail carries through to customer cars, the driver’s rearward view will rely on the camera display rather than a conventional view through the rear glass. That is a meaningful difference from cars with a usable rear window, but there is no independent evaluation here of camera image quality, performance in poor weather, display placement, delay, or the driver’s adaptation to the system.
For a buyer, the practical question is not simply whether a camera is present. It is whether the display gives a useful view in the conditions and driving situations they encounter, and whether they are comfortable relying on it. That should be checked in the actual production car before purchase; a design report is not a substitute for a hands-on visibility assessment.
Recommended Free Tools
The reported arrangement also changes what “rear visibility” means in a comparison. A conventional rear window allows a driver to look through the car, while a camera-based view depends on the camera, display and their operation. The report establishes the design feature, not how it will work in rain, darkness, glare or a particular parking situation. No claim about safety, visibility superiority or inconvenience is justified without an assessment of the finished system.
Jaguar’s announced performance, range and charging figures
The following specifications were announced by Jaguar Land Rover or Jaguar in 2026 reveal and product material. They describe the manufacturer’s stated targets or advertised maxima, not independently verified results. The EPA and WLTP range figures come from different test cycles and should not be treated as interchangeable estimates of real-world distance.
| Specification | Jaguar’s announced figure | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum power | Up to 1,030 PS | Jaguar Land Rover Media’s 2026 figure; “up to” is a ceiling claim, not an independent measurement |
| Maximum torque | Up to 1,365 Nm | Jaguar Land Rover Media’s 2026 figure |
| 0–62 mph acceleration | 3.2 seconds | Jaguar Land Rover Media’s announced time; no independent test result is established |
| Usable battery capacity | 118 kWh | Jaguar Land Rover Media’s 2026 specification |
| Electrical architecture | 850 volts | Jaguar Land Rover Media’s announced architecture voltage |
| Expected range | Up to 400 miles EPA; up to 450 miles WLTP | Jaguar Land Rover Media’s estimates on distinct cycles; neither is an independent real-world range test |
| Maximum rapid DC charging power | Up to 350 kW | Jaguar’s 2026 product material advertises a maximum; real charging power depends on conditions |
| 10–80% charging time | As little as 22 minutes | Jaguar’s advertised minimum time, dependent on charging conditions |
| Charge added over a stated interval | Up to 200 miles in 13 minutes | Jaguar’s product-material claim; the stated distance is not a guarantee of what every driver will add |
These numbers suggest that Jaguar intends the Type 01 to combine high performance with rapid charging and long claimed range. They do not establish how the car will perform on a particular road, in a particular climate, or on a specific charging network. Actual range and charging performance depend on conditions; the product material also describes the 350 kW rate as an “up to” maximum and the 22-minute interval as “as little as.” No independent range test, efficiency study, or controlled road test against competing EVs is established in Jaguar’s October 2026 material or the contemporaneous coverage discussed here.

The details should be read as separate claims, not rolled into a single guarantee. The 118 kWh figure is identified as usable battery capacity, while the 850-volt figure describes the electrical architecture. Jaguar’s advertised 350 kW is a maximum charging power, not necessarily the rate maintained throughout a session. The 10–80% time and “up to 200 miles in 13 minutes” are distinct ways of expressing charging performance; neither means every charger, battery condition or journey will produce that result.
Range needs the same care. Jaguar has announced up to 400 miles on the EPA cycle and up to 450 miles on WLTP. Those figures come from different procedures, so putting one next to another maker’s number from a different cycle would not create a fair comparison. Neither number is the outcome of an independent real-world road test. A buyer comparing cars should look for figures from the same cycle and, when available, independent tests using clearly stated conditions.
How to make a fair design and performance comparison
For the styling question, compare what can be seen and described: body proportions, roof height, cabin layout, seating concept and rear-view arrangement. Type 01 has a clear identity in those areas. A visual comparison cannot establish that it is roomier, more comfortable, safer, more efficient or easier to live with than another car.
For a performance or ownership comparison, use matched evidence rather than a single headline number. A useful comparison should account for test cycle, battery capacity definition, charging conditions and independent measurement. In particular, an EPA estimate should be compared with another EPA estimate, and a WLTP figure with another WLTP figure; neither cycle should be silently substituted for the other.
- Range: distinguish manufacturer estimates from independently measured road-test range, and compare figures from the same test cycle.
- Battery: check whether a published capacity is usable or total. Jaguar calls the Type 01’s 118 kWh figure usable capacity.
- Charging: separate peak charging power from the time needed for a charging session. A maximum rate and an advertised 10–80% time are not the same as a guarantee under all conditions.
- Space: use measured passenger and luggage dimensions, seat count and a hands-on assessment rather than inferring practicality from the exterior shape.
- Visibility: evaluate the camera-and-screen arrangement in the production vehicle if the reported no-rear-window design is retained.
The available figures do not support declaring Type 01 faster, more efficient, more spacious or better than a particular rival. They do support saying that Jaguar is aiming for a high-performance, long-range luxury GT with a distinctly low profile.

A reader asking “What does Type 01 offer you over the alternatives?” can therefore get a firm answer on design intent, but not a definitive buying verdict. Jaguar is offering an EV with the proportions of a low grand tourer, a four-place cabin organized around a central spine, and manufacturer-announced power, range and charging targets. Whether those priorities are preferable depends on the buyer’s needs; the released facts do not resolve price, practicality, comfort, efficiency in use or comparative value.
When it is expected, and what is not settled
Jaguar expects orders to open in early 2027 and first customer deliveries in the second half of 2027. Its product page says final customer models and features are not yet available for sale and may vary before launch. The October 2026 reveal therefore gives a substantial picture of the car’s intent and announced specifications, but it is not a final retail specification sheet.

No confirmed price, trim walk, customer order configuration or settled retail availability is established in Jaguar’s October 2026 product information. That means buyers cannot yet use the announced details to compare final versions or calculate a purchase price. The early-2027 order expectation and second-half delivery expectation are Jaguar’s schedule, not evidence that every market will have the same timing or configuration.
Jaguar also identifies an optional Type 01-themed Home Charger and app-linked smart or scheduled charging. The published information here does not establish regional availability, price, installation requirements or compatibility details. Prospective owners should confirm those points with Jaguar for their market rather than assume an accessory or charging setup is available everywhere. There is no substantiated marketplace listing, price or third-party compatibility basis for recommending a particular charger as a verified purchase.
What the Type 01’s design says about Jaguar’s EV approach
Type 01 is notable less for being a new EV body style than for the choice it makes among competing design priorities. Jaguar is emphasizing a low, long GT silhouette, a low seating position and a four-person cabin articulated by a central spine. That creates a more dramatic, less upright impression than packaging-first EV designs, while leaving practical questions—space, comfort and visibility—to be answered by the production vehicle and independent evaluation.
So the clearest comparison with other electric cars is one of character and proportion: Type 01 is a luxury electric GT with a long bonnet and low fastback roof, not a conventional high-roof EV form. Jaguar’s performance and charging claims are ambitious on paper, but they should remain attributed to the manufacturer until independent, comparable results are available.
That distinction is the useful takeaway for anyone weighing the car against alternatives. The design evidence supports a description of what Jaguar has prioritized, not a blanket claim that one approach is superior. The more upright format can be judged by its own packaging aims; the Type 01’s low GT format is judged by its intended stance and occupant experience. The final answer on how well its bold exterior works as a daily car will depend on customer specifications and evaluation of the production version.
