Ford Racing chief project engineer Arie Groeneveld said the supercharger provides “massive airflow,” bringing substantial power to a street Mustang. However, Ford and the cited NASCAR report did not publish an authoritative horsepower or torque figure in the available announcement coverage. Any precise output number circulating without a Ford source should therefore be treated as unverified.
When will it race in NASCAR?
Ford Racing plans to debut the Mustang Dark Horse SC in the NASCAR Cup Series at the 2027 Daytona 500. That is an announced future competition date, not a claim that the road car is already a Cup race specification or that customer deliveries begin before then.

The racing pathway matters because the car is being presented as a production street Mustang with a direct connection to Ford’s competition engineering, rather than as a conventional showroom trim with no stated motorsport role.

Why is Ford calling this a Ford Racing road car?
Ford renamed Ford Performance as Ford Racing in April 2025 and said its engineers would develop road cars alongside race cars. General manager Will Ford described the strategy as “a direct line from the track to your driveway.”

The stated goal is to move solutions and lessons between programs: track-developed ideas can influence road products, while experience from desert racing can inform vehicles such as the F-150 Raptor. The Dark Horse SC is the first production vehicle identified with this new Ford Racing approach.
Groeneveld characterized the project as “a dream project for the team” and said it was an opportunity to make a world-class performance icon faithful to its American muscle-car roots while using what Ford has learned on the track.
