For Indonesia’s 2023 model year, Kawasaki updated the Ninja ZX-25R with TFT instrumentation and LED lighting on the standard and ABS SE variants, and added the higher-spec ZX-25RR. The 249.8 cc inline-four engine carried over, so this was an equipment and lineup update rather than a new-engine redesign. The announcement and specifications discussed here are for Kawasaki Motor Indonesia; equipment and prices can differ in other markets.
What was new for 2023?
Kawasaki Motor Indonesia announced three variants in October 2022: the standard ZX-25R, ZX-25R ABS SE, and new ZX-25RR. The model-year report says the standard and ABS SE gained a TFT colour display and full LED lighting. The ZX-25RR joined the range as its top trim, building on the ABS SE with upgraded suspension.
The change was chiefly about equipment and choice within the Indonesian lineup. The brochure retained the same 249.8 cc engine specification; it does not establish a new engine or an independent performance improvement.

Weights are the figures published in Kawasaki Motor Indonesia’s 2023 brochure, not universal specifications. The brochure also lists a 310 mm semi-floating front disc with a radial-mount caliper for the RR. The listed RR equipment should not be read as standard across all three variants.

What engine and core specifications did Kawasaki publish?
The Indonesian 2023 brochure lists a four-stroke, liquid-cooled, DOHC, four-cylinder engine with 249.8 cc displacement, a 50.0 mm bore, a 31.8 mm stroke, and a 12.5:1 compression ratio. It lists a six-speed transmission and a 15-litre fuel tank for the family. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results.
What the update does—and does not—tell you about performance
The carried-over engine capacity means the clearest documented reasons to choose the RR are its adjustable suspension and additional equipment, not a verified increase in engine output. No comparable independent test data for the three variants is established here, so the published specifications do not support a measured performance ranking.

Autos.id reported Michael C. Tanadhi, identified as Head of Sales & Promotion at PT Kawasaki Motor Indonesia, saying: “With the same engine capacity as the previous model, the New Kawasaki Ninja ZX-25R has performance that is no less advanced.” That is Autos.id’s English rendering of the reported statement, not an independent test finding.
Which version makes sense?
- Choose the standard ZX-25R if the features documented for the base model—TFT instrumentation and full LED lighting in the Indonesian update—meet your needs.
- Consider the ABS SE if you want that variant in the Indonesian three-model range; the cited material does not provide enough detail to compare its full equipment list against the standard model.
- Consider the ZX-25RR if adjustable fork preload, a more adjustable BFRC Lite rear shock, and its listed additional features are priorities.
This is an equipment-based choice, not a claim that one trim is faster or better in every riding situation. Check the local specification sheet before applying these distinctions outside Indonesia.

Kawasaki Motor Indonesia’s current lineup page may show live prices, but those figures are market-specific and are not the 2023 launch prices.
